We just returned from a week long visit that included stays at OKW, Vero and the Boardwalk. We had a great time, and still love each of the resorts.

But I have a question for any who might know...

This was the first time I ever remember there being cleanliness issues, and they were at not one but all three resorts. Has something changed?

At OKW the problem was just that they hadn't apparently done a really thorough cleaning in quite some time. It showed up in the heating vent being full of dust...if you didn't look there it was fine, but once you did it looked like a dryer lint trap....kinda ewwww! Then around the tile grout near (but not ON) the floor of the bathrooms there were similar areas where it had apparently not been cleaned in some time. Finally, (more of a maintenance issue) the rubber trap that covers the disposal in the sink was missing. Not a big deal until you turn on the disposal after putting cereal into it....learned to take a BIG step back! We reported this but nothing was done during our stay, I don't know if it is the type of thing that is easily fixed or if the whole sink/drain has to be replaced.

At Vero, our only housekeeping issue was the top of the fridge, but it was just plain disgusting. Somebody had obviously stored food there, and the food remained. It was impossible to tell how long it had been there.

Then at the Boardwalk, the problem was that some type of either toothpaste or shower gel or something had splattered on the wall tile and had not been cleaned up.

We didn't go in with a white glove, but these issues hit us in the face. Do they have a policy about cleaning more than just the sinks, tubs, sheets and floors?

Just curious, we had never noticed this sort of inattention to detail before.

Don't you need a ladder to get up high enough to see in the HVAC vents?

Fortunately, I'm not tall enough to see the top of the fridge. Uh Oh... I think I better go check the top of my fridge.

I have one of those Oral-B spinning tooth brushes. Let me tell you... keep that thing in your mouth when it is running... otherwise woah!

Sorry for the dissappointments. You might want to pose the question in the form of a letter to DVC management.

Sorry for your disappointing room service. :sad2: We stayed at BWV in Dec. and it was very clean. We were on the 5th floor. :)

December we had crumbs in the pull out couch at SSR not really a big deal. Although the hallways had more spiders and spider webs that we cared to see. I know it is "outside" but it does take much to knock them down.

We have stayed at OKW and BWV recently and had no cleanliness issues. Sorry you did.

I totally agree-we just got back from the BCV and OKW. Our BCV (2BR) wasn't too bad but had spatters of something on the bathroom door. The light over the kitchen table didn't work and one bulb out in the bathroom. The pillows were awesome and I thought the new sleeper sofas were nice.

OKW was gross! We stayed in a 2br in building 42, first floor. This was our first time at OKW. The unit was not in good shape at all. There was a large stain on the love seat. The bathroom had a bad odor-musty-mildew. Visible mildew in the shower. Some kind of ick on the door. My husband was going to use the whirlpool, turned the water on and it came out brown-left a disgusting ring around the tub. When was the last time they updated this resort? I was very dissappointed.

After so many posts on this issue, I was very nervous about having 2 studios for my parents and parents-in-law, plus a 2BR reserved for 3 nights just prior to Christmas. All of them were very clean. I gave the 2BR a more thorough look than I normally would have, too, in the kitchen and the bathrooms, and did not find anything amiss.

EWWW!!!

i agree. i haven't had a problem with this in my limited experiences with OKW and SSR, but the only way for management to know what's going wrong is if complaints are directed their way (ideally during the time of the stay but a letter afterwards is better than random complaints on a message board.)

This was something we noticed back in August. The hallways had loads and, I mean, LOADS of webs and small spiders. I am not a huge fan of spiders but I don't mind little ones - however, this made me really quite uncomfortable knowing they were all around me. I don't know whether it's just becausre we've only stayed at BWV before and obviously the hallways there are inside as opposed to 'outside' but, even so, it seemed to me that this was unnecessary really. It's fairly obvious that no attempt had been made to even shift the cobwebs.

No you don't need a ladder to see this stuff. I was actually sitting and happened to look up. It wasn't just a layer of dust, the register was filled with dust/lint looking stuff. Enough that it was actually kind of flapping as the air blew.

And as far as the top of the fridge...I'm the same way, but DH commented on it.

And I agree with you about the toothbrush thing, but don't worry, you'll get better as you get more practice.:goodvibes I just think perhaps it was the kind of thing housekeeping should have wiped up when they turned the unit over.

I just found the whole set of experiences odd and wonder if something was different. We have been members for nearly 15 years. While occasionally we have had a little something, it was just strange to notice so much in one stay at several resorts. It was definitely not representative of what we are used to.

I guess I can write DVC, but with it having happened at several resorts I doubt it will get noticed.

So far, the only resort we were disappointed in has been BWV. We were so excited to stay there since it was in the location we wanted. We had always stayed at BCV and VWL and wanted to try BWV. Our room was very unkept. Although, it didn't seem too dirty, it was dusty and the bathroom needed MAJOR renovations. The shower tiles were falling off, the bathroom tissue holder was literally ripped off the wall and appeared to have been put back with a small tiny screw. The drain in the shower was not draining at all (we called and they would fix it to the point that it would drain for two showers and then it had the same problem again). :sad2:
