Coming Soon: Toll Road on I-75 in Georgia!

1. There will be (continue to be) a free road (lanes) paralleling the toll road (lanes)

2. We'll have to wait and see whether they would consider accepting EZpass, Sunpass, neither, or both for electronic toll payment.

Correct, but these toll lanes have a weird effect on Atlanta traffic. It makes traffic congestion worse in the non-toll lanes. If you find yourself in rush- hour traffic, oh boy!

Georgia's Peach Pass system is currently in use on tolled sections of I-85 and Georgia 400 but is not interoperable with the E-ZPass or SunPass systems.

OK, I'm not from the area, and it's been years since I've driven by, but how can it make congestion "worse"? Aren't they talking about ADDING lanes? Or would they change existing lanes? If they're adding lanes, it would HAVE to ease congestion (unless absolutely NOBODY used them).

Georgia's Cruise Card (predecessor to Peach Pass) is the same technology as Sunpass Mini which is Transcore ISO 18000 6B using stick on no-battery transponders. Peach Pass is Transcore ISO 18000 6C, also with stick on transponders. The toll plazas will accept both of these technologies for the immediate future.

At least two states, Colorado and Oklahoma, are changing over from plastic transponders to stick on Transcore (6C and 6B respectively) transponders.

So honoring of Sunpass in Georgia sometime soon might not be farfetched.

I'm from the area, and what you are saying is absolutely logical. But Atlanta's traffic defies logic.

Take I-85 for instance. They have instituted that optional toll lanes and it made the traffic worse than it already was. First of all, it's confusing. There are no toll booths. If you don't have the Peach Pass, you cannot use the lanes.

Also, the amount of the toll changes based upon demand. So the toll can be one price per mile at one time and then another at other times. So if there's hardly any traffic, you pay a very low rate. But if there's a LOT of traffic, you pay the highest prices. Per Mile.

Stupid plan, ain't it? I mean, I would like to meet the genius that thought that up!
