Hello all.
I've been lurking around WISH reading the diet/exercise threads for a while now, but thought I'd actually post and say hi today.
I've always been tall and thin with a really fast metabolism, but somehow over the course of the past year I've packed on 20 pounds and I'm having a really hard time losing it.
I'm 6' tall and last year I was an almost too-thin looking 160 pounds (I've got big bones) and a size 8. Now my old clothes are too tight, I'm in a 12, and I'm pushing 180.
I've had three things happen to me this year that I think has caused the gain:
1) I was diagnosed with random hypertension (nobody knows why) and put on blood pressure medicine. It's a beta-blocker which causes MAJOR water retention issues and makes losing weight a bit harder.
2) My bf just moved in with me, and it's hard to eat small salads for dinner when he's eating something good or when he's pigging out on a bag of chips.
3) I turned 30 and my metabolism must be slowing down.....
Anyway I've been exercising religiously for the past couple of months but I'm not losing anything, probably because I've been going out to eat a lot and drinking too much alcohol with the summer bbq and summer vacation (I'm a teacher so I'm not working right now)
After weighing myself this weekend, though (where I discovered I gained 6 pounds in 2 weeks) , I've decided to REALLY kick up the exercise and try extra hard to watch calories/fat. I'm hoping to taper my blood pressure medicine off too so maybe that will help. I'd be happy if I could just lose 15 pounds, hopefully before cold weather gets here so I can get back into my jeans!!!!!
This board seems really supportive and I know I'll be posting a lot here. Sorry so long but it helps to get it all out "on paper."
