Comfortable/practical shoes with capris?

Okay, I just don't get backless shoes. I went to Clarks' website and fell in love, the shoes all look gorgeous, and they're available everywhere, so I'm going to go check 'em out....but HOW CAN THEY STAY ON?????

I don't get it! It seems to me I'd be slipping out of them everywhere I went.

Eager to be proven wrong, because they look very nice indeed...

Kris

P.S. I'll also check out Tevas....

I have a wonderful pair of Nike sandals that I bought this past summer. They have excellent arch support, Nike air soles and relatively cute blue/white/black straps. They are the most comfortable shoe I have worn in a long time. I think they will be perfect for Disney because they have a ton of support, but are strappy and cool (temperature-wise). I wore them all summer with all kinds of clothes (jeans, shorts, capris) and they looked fine. I also tried on some Tevas and a few other brands of 'sport sandals' and these were the most comfy. I bought them at Nordstrom's, but I have seen them in other stores. Good luck. --H

No, the Clarks are great! They have a kind of sueded inside which has a shaped foot bed. They never slip. They are not like my backless Aerosoles which are just a flat inside. Honestly.

Mine have also gone through countless rain storms and WDW floods, and recover nicely. I just polish them before each trip and they look perfectly fine.

I haven't tried the new 'fashion' line of Clarks, I just wear the geeky original ones (I was soooooooo envious of my sister when I was young because she had those t-strap clarks that young British kids wear)

I guess the fact that my parents always made us wear 'sensible' shoes when we were kids is wearing off on me.

I bought a pair of Nike sandals a few years ago that were khaki colored....the best purchase I have ever made! They were immediately comfortable and have survived many vacations. Plus, with the subtle color, I could even wear them with khaki pants at work.

Unfortunately, I knew that it was time to replace my faithful Nikes. I just ordered a pair of Teva Spoilers for my next trip. They aren't yet as comfy as my Nikes were, but I'm slowly getting them broke in. These are a little darker, but still khaki in color so they'll match just about anything.

I got my Tevas at a store called FootSmart online.

Well, my New Balance backless tennies arrived today (see photo in previous post). While they're very very comfortable, they are not fashionable in the least, and wouldn't look any better with capris than my old tennies!

Maybe I should check out Teva's and Clarks! LOL

New Balance sneakers, I do not Care WHAT I look like in them and the capris, I am comfortable.::yes::

where is the best place to find a good price on these different shoes online???

I'm very tempted by the Clark 3-strap sandals. I wonder if they'll have enough support for my poor arches. Bavaria, you're a good salesperson, I think I'll try the slips on at a store and see what I think...

Lori, I'm no help to you, I'll be ordering through Softmoc.com, which is a Canadian site...and it looks like a fair distance from you, m'dear. But if you Google Clark Shoes, it'll give you a website (don't pick the UK one, pick the other one) and from there you can click on the US flag and shop at that point....

www.zappos.com has Teva, Clark, Birkenstock, New Balance, among a whole lot of other shoes. No tax, and usually no shipping charges. My shoes came in two days.

(My husband has very narrow feet - 11 1/2 B - and zappos.com is the only place I've found with shoes that fit him.)

I've always been of the opinion that you shouldn't have to break in shoes. They should be comfortable when you buy them. Otherwise, your shoes are breaking in your foot instead, and that's why we get sore feet and blisters. Now I hear that birkenstock shoes have to be broken in. One pays such a good chunk of change for them, you would think they should be comfortable to begin with. Please enlighten me.

Oh time to clean my Clarks since I may have to book a trip for December!! And by the way, I wear those Clarks with anything - shorts, pants, skirts - they really don't look bad at all.

Funny, I tried to check out the new Clarks in Softmoc today and the sales clerk shooed me out since they weren't open (but it was after opening time)

I also found my Geox in the trunk of my car today - has anyone tried these? they are all the rage in Europe since they have teeny holes in the bottom so that your feet don't sweat. They are like driving mocs and come in a variety of styles. There are a bunch of little square bumps on the bottom and great support. They were $$$$$ but I really haven't worn them much...

The Clarks outlets in the US usually have pretty good prices, and most discount shoe places carry them.

We here in Canada have to wait for sales at Ronson's or Softmocs!

Lori S. - if you have plantar fasciitis, then the worst shoes you can wear are flat footed keds or mules or slip ons.

Birkenstock or Mephisto brand sandals have an arch support which is needed to help keep your foot aligned in the right position. This is why many believe Birkenstocks have to be broken in. They don't actually hurt your feet, like a poor shoe will when first worn. It's just that your leg is now aligned differently and this will take a while for your leg muscles to get used to. Orthotics also have to be worn gradually for a few weeks to get used to them - but they never hurt your feet like a bad pair of shoes!

I have been able to control my plantar fasciitis and potential bunyon problem, by taking good care of my feet - never going barefoot or wearing flat shoes.

On our upcoming trip, I'm planning to take my runners with orthotics as well as Merrill walking sandals that have a back strap. I will just wear my Mephistos back at the hotel, as I accidently lost a shoe on our last trip to Disney (although it was retrieved after the ride).

Will Birkenstock mules be bad for my plantar facitis? or will they be better? I never wear totally flat shoes anymore. Usually I'm wearing my orthotics, I just know I'm going to be sick of them and want something easier.

I was wanting to purchase some Birks if they won't hurt me, but I don't want to waste the money on something to make me worse.

loriS. I too have plantar facistis and actually I have been told that New Balance sneakers are good and you can fit an orthodic in them. Be sure to get a good pair of socks. I am kind of nervous about doing all the walking when we go because of my feet, but I figured I would do the best I can and take a break.

Dreamin'Disney:

What are Merrills? I have a pair of New Balance sneakers which I think I will be using in December. I dont think that sandels will have enough comfort/support for my feet. I have had on foot operated on and the other is sore too. :Pinkbounc

I was thinking....if the rides were a work place, we'd be required to wear closed toe shoes. Think of the moving platforms. Not to mention the people who drive their strollers aggressively. I like the protection of sneakers.

Runners with orthotics or arch supports would probably be the best, both for safety and for longer lasting comfort; but they can be hot to wear all day, every day.

If I could get a pair of Birkenstocks or Mephistos with straps around the ankle, that would be ideal.

My Merrell sandals are outdoor waterproof sandals with an arch support and heel cushion. Bought at a local store, Urban Trail in Canada, but the tag has a UK, US and European size stamp inside. I think they can be found at most stores that carry quality walking shoes like Birkenstock, Mephisto, Rockport, etc.

I like my Merrells a bit better than Birk's or Mephisto's for longer walking, as they have an air cushion on the heel and because of the ankle strap, will be more secure at the parks throughout the day.

I was in Victoria this week (which must be the sensible-shoe-store capital of Canada!) and saw the new Clarks from the more modern line - oooooooooooh I may need to buy my old Clarks a pair of friends before December!

Couldn't stand the tought of wearing capris with shoes (and socks!) and am doubtful that my feet would be able to endure the different sandals that I have so I decided to go buy myself some new comfortable, sport sandals ....IN CANADA?? ON HALLOWEEN DAY???? was I crazy, where would I be able to find them?
Finally went to Mountain Equipment Coop and found some, on sale (not so great a sale though) and not many were left. They look like they will be comfortable (please please please) with good support! They are Lizards sandals....will see and if they pass the test, I'll post again...

I wore my comfortable sneakers but bought insoles with an arch at CVS. On the alternate days I wore my sandals. You definately cannot wear the same shoe with all that walking two days in a row. One day I wore socks, then the next took out the insoles, then my sandals. I am a nurse who tolerates alot of walking, but man, my feet appreciated the bus ride home!
