I am posting this here and on Disney resorts thread to hopefully get all views.
Situation: we are a family of 5 so staying @ the values or mods are out of our budget because we need 2 rooms. We qualify for the SOG and were able to get reservations for Nov. 8th-11th. However, we are not coming home until the 12th and SOG was totally booked. Our kids are small so packing up to stay somewhere else that night is not appealing. We have to head home EARLY on the 12th (driving) so we considered packing the car and leaving after we were done at the parks and staying in Gainesville or something like that. We do love SOG....we've stayed there before and it's a beautiful resort....fairly easy walk to the Poly for transportation or use the SOG buses.

2nd option: We also have reservations for the Comfort Suites maingate east. They have availability through the 12th so no packing up early. Buffet breakfast is included and it's a suite so a bit more space (only a bit more...SOG rooms are quite large). Cost...we would save $41/nt but have to pay for Disney parking ($10??) so that brings the savings down to $36/nt.

So what do ya'll think?
Thanks!!

What are the cancellation penalties/timelines?

I'd consider booking both for now, and calling to see if you can extend that SOG reservation one more night. If you didn't have to check out early, SOG would probably be my choice on location alone. If push came to shove, I'd probably rather stay in CS East than check out a day earlier than you want.

I have to cancel 30 days ahead of time @ SOG (or pay one night penalty, $111) ~ Oct. 10th...only a matter of days ahead @ Comfort Suites East. I do have both reservations for now.
I'm leaning towards SOG...but you're right that last night thing is a pain.

here's an idea. cancel the SOG right at the 30 day mark. Then, call back that day, and each of the next several days. Surely, other people will be cancelling their slightly longer/shorter vacations at 30 days too, opening up some inventory.

naominpaul, when you look at the money saved by staying at the Comfort Suites remember the cost of breakfast that you won't have to buy. The buffet there is very good and you won't be paying for food that the kids order and then decide not to eat. We have stayed three time at Comfort Suites Maingate East and would not hesitate to do it again. Also be aware that the 'suite is just a partial wall dividing the two beds from the couch and table area.
