Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I wasn't sure where to post this. We are driving done to WDW in mid August and I am trying to find a hotel in South Carolina to stay in. Last year when we drove down we stayed in Florence but would go a little further this time. I read in tripadvisor.com good reviews for the Comfort Inn in Ridgeland South Carolina. I was wondering if anyone has ever stayed here or if there is another hotel in South Carolina near this area you can recommend.

It will be DH, DD 8,DD 1 and myself. We are leaving New York around 4am and need a clean, safe hotel to stay in. Not really interested in pools or restaurants except for maybe a fast food place where we can eat dinner. It would also be a plus if the hotel had a free continental breakfast but it's not a requirement. Any recommendations or advice would be very appreciated.

Sorry I don't know anything about the Comfort inn (maybe on the transportation board they might- there is a driving 95 thread there) I was thinking we would get to Florence and I would feel good about that? Not far enough? Do you remember how long it was from Florence to Disney(I am thinking around 7 hours?) And oh boy the 1 year old. We did that last year and had to make multiple diaper breaks. get out of the carseat breaks... but I think you are right on for doing the majority of the driving on day one. Because the little one might give you a hard time getting back in that carseat the second day. Good Luck and we'll wave to you :wave2: (we have 4 kids so as bad as your ride may get laugh and think well at least I'm not driving with Java's 4!)

We live in Columbia SC and drive to Hilton Head about once a month. Ive seen the Comfort Inn from the road (I believe its that one) and it looks pretty good. Looks like theres a big indoor pool area too. It is right alongside I-95 though (noise factor??), but theres plenty of places to eat, etc closeby. From Hilton Head, its about 4.5-5 hrs to Orlando depending on traffic and stops.

There are a few other areas that offer hotels too if thats too far. The Walterboro area has a bunch (not sure how great though). If you want to go further; the Hilton Head exit (#8) theres not much unless you go inland a bit-Hampton Inn, a Marriott something-sorry I never really pay attention), Hardeeville may have some places, but one of the best spots is just south of the Savannah airport. The town is Pooler, GA. The place is booming. Plenty of places to eat (Waffle House, McDonalds, Cracker Barrell, Taco Bell/Pizza Hut, etc), and several hotels (Microtel is where Ive stayed for school). The Mighty 8th Airforce Museum is there too. Depending on traffic, its about 30-40 minutes from Ridgeland.

Another tip-gas is usually cheaper in GA. Be sure to stop at I believe exit 2 (maybe 1) for gas (last big stop before hitting $$$$ FL). You will see signs for the stations, and there used to be a thread on where to fill up on these boards (Check under the driving boards).

Florence is about 7-8 hours from Disney. If I remember correctly we left Florence last year at about 5:30 am and arrived at Disney at about 1 pm. Of course it was a Sunday so we did not encounter much traffic. It is a good place to stop distance wise, I just wasn't too fond of the hotel we stayed in and read some threads with unflattering reviews about the area so I wanted to stop someone else. Also, DH said he'd be williing to go a little further than Florence and I like the idea. The less we have to drive on day 2 the better in my opinion. I think I get more excited then the kids and can't stand the anticipation :Pinkbounc . Walterboro looks like a good place to stay so we'l probably try the Holiday Inn there.

As for driving with your four kids, I feel your pain. Last year we took by sister along with her 3 so it was a total of 3 adults, 2 teens who do not get along :sad2: ,a pre-teen, a 7 year old and a 3 months old. We were lucky to arrive all in one piece.

If you can make it over the border to Georgia, we have stayed @ the Fairfield Inn exit 94. Nice, fairly new, clean and next door to a Cracker Barrel. They will also do a courtesy hold till 6pm. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!
