I should be totally embarrassed to post this thread on such a small issue. But DIS folks are so kind that I know your tough love comments will be kind.
Great vacation so far. Heading home on Tuesday. Those of you who are parents and others too probably know about the Flat Stanley school projects that have been popular for a while. My DGreatNiece asked me to bring Flat Bella on our trip. I have been trying to do her proud with lots of cool photos of Flat Bella to share. So today I was trying to take a photo of Flat Bella on the Buzz ride and I dropped my iPhone 5 just as the door of the ride vehicle was closing. We were still in the loading area so I told a CM but he just shrugged his shoulders. I told another CM when I got off but was told that the odds of recovering it are very, very, very slim. I can see my phone on the Find My Phone app and it is sending a signal just fine. It rings, so I know it is working. I would stake my life that it is just sitting under the vehicle we rode. Reported to Lost and Found. MK is open until 1:00 AM and supposedly maintenance will look. I tried to leave my phone number so they could call it and hear where it is but was told they can't do that. It is only a phone not a human but it surely is hard to not have it on vacation. And of course I will need to buy a non-subsidized one as a replacement, which will set me back $800 or so.
It is very humbling to realize that I am so dependent on an inanimate object. And I was having so much fun texting photos of the 5 year old and the 8 year old who are traveling with me to their parents.
Still hoping for a miracle. Maybe I could find a maintence uniform to wear and go look for it myself at 1:00 AM, LOL!

go back to the ride and ask to speak to the supervisor, or ask for security, be polite, tearful explain what you were doing, and ask how you can help with getting your phone back. YOU"RE WILLING TO DO ANYTHING! good luck. If this doesn't work go to mainstreet and talk to the service center there in the Town Hall.
if none of this works, go back to the park and ride at closing... and try again. let us know how this goes.

Jean,
I'm sending some pixie dust your way. :tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tink::tink::tink:

My niece lost her camera when we visited about a month ago. Sure enough, somebody had turned it in to lost and found. We were all happy campers. :thumbsup2

I hope they will be able to retrieve your phone this evening after the park closes. I know I feel like I have lost my brain if I don't have my phone with me, it is amazing how handy they are.

:wizard::wizard::wizard:Lots of Pixie Dist that one of those suggestions works for you! I'd probably be getting out of the car right as it fell, trying to retrieve it.

Hope you find it before you go home.:wizard::wizard::wizard:

Someone did look near the loading area but I know the phone fell under the vehicle. A supervisor said it will probably end up crunched up in the guts but so far this hasn't happened because my app shows it right on the ride. I may try to go back to MK tonight (5 year old was so looking forward to MSEParade) but there is a tornado watch here and my karma today makes me reluctant to take any big risks. Reminder to self: this is only a phone!!!'

No need to be embarrassed about posting! I would be upset too. Obviously you are trying to keep things in perspective but I would be majorly bummed too.

If no one at the ride will help, have you thought about stopping at City Hall / Guest Services ? :confused3

Hoping you get some :tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker:

If it is still responding to find my iPhone then it is still working. A supervisor should be able to help. I would escalate this to guest relations. Your window will close though once the battery dies.

Yes, it's only a phone but I love my iPhone. I totally understand. :goodvibes I hope you get it back. I'd probably brave the tornado warning. Don't flame me. Just telling the truth.

My experience with Disney Lost and Found is that they are less than accommodating... I also get the impression that they are innundated with calls on any given day. I think what you have going in your favor is that the phone is not somewhere that the general public can access. I think it might be worth your while to be at the ride at closing if there is any way possible for you to do that. I know if I were in your shoes that's what I would do.

I hope one of the suggestions work and you get your phone.pixiedust: Someone should help you!!!

City Hall was nice but there wasn't much help except to say that maintenance walks through the ride after it shuts down. I tried to explain that walking through will not help because I believe the phone is still right where I dropped it, under the "scissors point" where the vehicle door hinges close. It will not be visible unless someone looks UNDER the vehicles. Who is going to get down and look under every vehicle? Not. I desperately tried to get someone to identify the number or ID of my vehicle, but no one would help. I just don't understand why they won't call my phone after the ride shuts down and listen for the ringtone ("Under the Sea" for the 5 year old I am traveling with, LOL!)
I am seriously considering your suggestion to be at Buzz at 1:00 AM. I am at BLT, so certainly doable. It would be so nice to have the phone to finish the Flat Stanley project that started this whole mess!

Don't be embarassed. $800 is absurd, :sad2: I would definitely be losing it too if I lost my iPhone on vacation!

Sending pixie dust your way that you're able to recover it! pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

I hate to tell you this but we had the same thing happen in space mountain last trip. We reported it, made it ring, set off alert tones and nothing. One morning I checked where's my iPhone and watched it go to Miami. Like an idiot I called it, only to have it turn off and never be seen again.

My advice is send the erase code now or be ready to if it leaves WDW. We were lucky that we never access financial info through our phones.

I hope you are luckier than we were.:sad1:

My experience with Disney Lost and Found is that they are less than accommodating.

Isn't that the truth.

I lost my iPhone on the bus last time. I literally got off the bus, walked to my room and realized it was missing, and called the front desk. Who then of course transferred me to lost and found which specifically says on their recording... "We can only help you with items lost prior to today"

Um hello... My phone is on a bus riding to the Contemporary! See my iPad tracking my iPhone? LOL. They must have hated me. It was so frustrating because like you, I knew exactly where my phone was I just wanted someone to check and get it. It took me over an hour, about 10 phone calls 5 people including a supervisor, before I finally got them to get the phone.

But they were not happy about it and "less than accommodating" is an understatement. I hope I never have to deal with lost and found. It's seriously amazing the operation they run there and that's the kind of crap you have to deal with to get a phone back.
