They said the Budget Board is a scary place.:confused3

Are we scary?

Apparently we are. Apparently trying to save money is a scary thought....hmmm, I find the OP's attitude and ability to jump to conclusions and judge everyone who posts on the budget board from one or two threads a tad more scary then this board. But what do I know? After all I'm one of the scary ones. LOL

I have gotten more great tips and saved more money because of this board. My husband is constantly amazed at the ways I come up with to save money. And for the record, finances are NOT a problem for us!
I am just frugal.
I wonder if scary is another way of saying frugal???:cool1:

yes, finances aren't a problem for us either, but I LOVE to save money. =)

I read a few pages... maybe I'm just missing these threads that people are talking about... using WIC, giving kids horrible nutrition and getting the government to pay for home improvements all to get to Disney?

It's pretty ridiculous. I've become so much more financially responsible since reading the Budget Board on a regular basis... and I love you guys! I don't think we're scary!

Just goes to show what people will think after reading a select thread or two and heading out. Oh well. More fun for us- we don't need them! :goodvibes

That thread was absolutely rediculous....I don't think the OP even took the time to read the posts, just the thread titles. The one about someone looking for govt money help install new windows/home improvements, he was looking for govt grants or loans, which are out there. I'd like to know which people are sacrificing everything in their lives just for Disney.

If they had actually read the posts, they would realize that the BB is all about saving money in general, and if that means more Disney dollars, more power to ya! In my case, I'm a single mother, so every dollar saved in literally another dollar to go in my emergency fund or to pay the electric bill. And I've yet to even go to Disney.

I just LOVE how they all decided we were all freaks and scary simply because we are frugal and like to find the best deals on anything we buy. I'm sorry, but in my book that's called being financially smart!

Okay.... NO flaming here as I am putting on my flame retardant suit -:firefight

Yes, THIS board... the Budget Board can sometimes get WAY out of control with emotions.

I have seen more, and actually been involved in one of the more heated "discussions" on topics that we as the "frugal" people of the world are quite passionate about. :rolleyes1

So.... with that said, maybe just maybe we can see other's point of views and accept them for the way that they are. :hippie:

They said the Budget Board is a scary place.:confused3

Are we scary?

No - none of you are 'scary'.... the people doing all that are _____________.

Well - Ive already got points, so you can fill in the blank with whatever you'd like.

I dont know any of you, but I think it's really cruddy what was said over there.

i gotta say, when i first started reading, i was pretty offended. i luv the BB!
but after reading, and thinking, they were not talking about me. just some people who go to extremes to go to disney. imo, there is not really alot here, either. i also agree that some of the threads they were talking about were not read though before posting about.
let's just try to keep the BB a happy place! :thumbsup2
i have learned to save money, and get extra income (expotv) from these boards! luv u guys!

Unless the discussion here turns to how to cook vienna sausages in an electric skillet with veggies from the food court topping bar while in the resort room, I'm good with the other stuff.

I've been here for a while and I have to say I agree with the other thread.

SOME posters on the budget board are a bit extreme. There comes a point when you have to say we just can't afford this. I've read many threads here and thought, maybe it's time to cancel or postpone your trip.

There are DISers here receiving WIC and planning WDW trips. I just canceled our August free dining trip, yet I'm helping to fund WIC receiving DISers trips.:crazy2: :rolleyes2 :furious:

People have posted here that they can't pay their bills each month but they are still going to WDW or on a Disney cruise.:confused3 The things some DISers are willing to do to save money while there is mind blowing. (Cooking meals in a resort room that isn't equipped for cooking.)

I've found some very good deals here. However, there are plenty of threads/posters that really confuse and amaze me.

I defended the board there and I'm defending it here. And I will repeat myself: that is the most condescending, judgmental thread I think I have ever read on the DIS. Well, it's not word for word but...:rotfl:

You guys rock! Even those of you who feed your children hot dogs:lmao: I got the definite impression that many of those posters have no need to curtail spending or watch their pocketbooks. Maybe I'm wrong but that's the way I read many of the replies.

I for one CAN feed my family on less than $10/day and have been doing it for years. I also cut down our expenses, food, clothing, entertainment, etc. for the month before a trip to Disney or other places -- that's where we get our souvenier money. And my kids don't mind at all eating grilled cheese (yeah, the processed sliced kind) on white bread once a week that month. Nor do they mind having scrambled eggs and homefries (yep, white potatoes) once a week that month. We probably eat for $5/day when saving for our trips. We also don't go out and buy new sneakers and new outfits for each and every trip. In fact, we don't go out and buy new clothes at all for each trip. We actually manage to wear what we wear here during the warm months.

So, each to his own. And for the mother who said her kids would call CPS on her if she fed them XXX(can't remember), maybe your kids should be taught to be happy that there is food on the table because in many homes kids are downright thankful to get an evening meal! Okay, that was snarky and I take it back but I've got my panties in a bunch still but I'm working it out:rotfl2:

Yes, there are posts every once in awhile that are over the top. But I would say the majority of us are doing just fine and choose to try and get the most for their money.

If you can't afford to feed your children,or pay your bills, then no, you probably shouldn't be going to Disney.

OT(just background info)
I was a child of parents who worked very hard and owned their own business. As a child and young adult I was used to having nice cars, clothes and jewelry. When my father passed away it left my mom to try to run a business that she had no clue about. Needless to say, a lot of having no financial worries went out the window. I was still living at home, she decided to get married again and then I was out on my own with a low paying job. I ended up in a bad situation because of credit cards and trying to make ends meet. This experience and my grandmother is where I learned my frugality. Plus while my Dad was alive, he was a stockpiler. It was a all a learning experience that I still use to this day along with tips from the budget board. (Background ends)

Now to the present, my husband and I combined have a very nice income. We have retirement savings, nice house, nice cars and a lot of things to be thankful for. I buy a lot of things second hand from ebay and new clothes I do not buy unless on sale. I have yard sales and participate in consignment sales and I use coupons. I have even sold things on Craigslist due to info on this board. My frugality helps to have things without being in huge debt. We carry credit cards with no balances. If we make a large purchase, we use 0% interest options when available or pay cash

I love the budget board even though some of the tips are extreme. I just skip the tips that I do not agree with or want to use. With that being said I have used many tips, learned to shop CVS for freebies, and register for many freebies for myself.:cool1: Yes we can afford a 7 day vacation or trip to a Disney Resort without having to give up eating. I just like being frugal. :thumbsup2

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and some people just like to make their opinions known. :confused3 I have seen this even here on the budget board. It doesn't mean that you have to agree or disagree with the posters of the thread that caused this thread to be started or any of the budget board threads. As long as people are not posting about how to rob a bank or steal, who cares. My taxes go to help support people too, but I may need some of the services some day. Nothing in life is certain. You have to be able to live with yourself and sleep at night and I myself do not worry about what other people think. :flower3:
