Hi

Is it possible to combine your won points with rented points to build out a single reservation? I think I may fall short of points by around 25 points for the reservation that I want to make?

The only way to combine points for a reservation is for the rental points to be transferred to you. Usually, a point rental is actually a reservation rental where the owner of the points makes a reservation in your name. When that is the rental method, you can then reserve other nights with your own points in a different reservation and then have MS link the two reservations so you will not have to change rooms.

Thanks for this, most helpful. So if I approached the usual rental companies with the above as a specific request are people happy to transfer the points rather than make the reservation?

Transfers are more difficult to find for what you need. I do not know if the rental companies actually deal in transfers and you might have more luck by just checking the rental boards for transfers. One problem you face is that owners can only transfer points once per use year and thus it is usually not the preferred rental method. The other problem is finding anyone who will transfer the actual amount of points you need.

If you are 24 points or less short, you can purchase one-time use points direct from Disney for $15 each. Those can only be used at the 7 month mark, but are the simplest option.

For transfers, the home resort of the transferred points are important, but only if you need the 11 month booking advantage. Small transfers are very rare since an owner can only transfer once per year and most owners aren't willing to use up that benefit for a small number of points.

The other alternative is to rent points for a single night and have the reservations linked. If you need more than 25 points, this is probably the easiest option.

We added on a few nights, to our existing owner reservation, with rented points. The reservation number shows up in our DVC membership site upcoming vacations. Member services linked the reservations in order to keep the same room.
