I currently have points at OKW with a use year of Sept. If I buy a pkg of points from Timeshare store for HH with a different use year, can both home resort and the HH points be combined for one vacation if i book at 11 months out? (I know only the amount of home resort points can be used at 7 months out)
Thanks!

No. You'd have an 11 month booking window at OKW with those points and an 11 month window at HH with those points.

I was going to do what you're doing. I got an Oct UY BWV contract from the Timeshare store. Then we decided we wanted VWL points, too. We almost bought another contract through the Timeshare store with a different UY but my DVC guide pointed out that there would be many disadvantages to having two master contracts rather than one master contract with all of our points owned through it. He was right. You're allowed one transfer of points in or out from your contract each year. If you have two master contracts, you actually have to transfer points between them to use them for combined reservations. If you have them in one master contract all with the same UY, it is MUCH easier to use points from one resort for another or for combined reservations for one trip.

I am SO glad that we did our add on through Disney and put all our points in one contract.

If you own a contract at OKW and a contract at HH, only OKW points can be used for an OKW reservation at 11 months, and only HH points can be used for a HH reservation at 11 months. And being different use years, they would have a different member number, so you can not actually "combine" them for a stay, even at 7 month, unless you transfer points from one contract to another. The other easier option would be, at 7 months, to reserve some nights of your stay using the OKW points under the OKW member number, and some nights using HH points using the HH member number, and then have MS link the reservations, but you could not combine points for any one night. For instance a night requiring 15 points could not pull 7 points from OKW contract and 8 points from HH contract without a point transfer.

You'd also have a different banking window for each contract.

While this works fine for many members, I personally like keeping my vacation planning more simple, so I would want the same use year.

Chuck, so i could link the reservations? Is there a limit to the number of times per year you can do this?

what if they were the same resort, and same use year? I currrently have a home resort of BWV, and am thinking about a resale for the same resort and use year.... could they be combined into one contract?

Yes, reservations from multiple contracts can be linked together.

If a member buys a resale contract - same resort and Use Year as their original - the two contracts can be combined by DVC ... BUT ... This would need to be done before the documents are all completed. Sometimes DVC will catch this situation and do it automatically but it's best to let them know in advance. They will not usually do it afterwards without additional expense.

Yes, they would be under the same contract, just as if you bought all the points at the same time. Ours are like this. Honi

DVC will also combine the contracts when they are the same use year, but different resorts. My contract is BWV, and I bought an OKW by resale. I thought the contracts would be separate, but DVC combined the 175 BW and 270 OKW into one master contract with a February use year. :)

that it will simplify managing points & 'save' your transfer option ?

What we're not clear on :

- is banking or borrowing considered a transfer ?

- if you combine your contract from Resort A with your contract from Resort B into Master Contract and decide to sell off one can that be done or do both A & B need to be sold together since it is under Master Contract ?

While not technically what the rules say, DVC has been known to transfer banked and borrowed points from one master contract to another when a single owner is involved. This is done on a case by case basis and my experience suggests it's related to situations where the points must be in one account such as for that last night of a reservation and exchanges options.

If you have more than one master contract, you would use your once a year transfer from one to the other. We have done this multiple times and it is noted on our accounts that we used the transfer. We have never been allowed to do this without a transfer.

If you are lucky enough to purchase a resale with the same use year and Disney combines it into one master contract, you could still sell one and not the other in the future. They have the same master contract prefix number, such as 12345 and different suffix numbers, .001, .002, .003.

Im so glad to hear/see this- I had this very same question! Thanks!

Do all of the resorts have all of the same UYs? For example, if I have a June use year, will all of the resorts potentially also have June use years (just points for that use year may not be available) or did some resorts only have use years in certain months?

The Use Year months are: Feb, Mar, Apr, Jun, Aug, Sep, Oct and Dec.

As far as I know, these use year months are available at all resorts.

What if your home resort was the same but the UY was different such as
FEB - 150 pts & MARCH - 300 pts?

Use Year inventory is not a constant. I know of several people who have had to wait until their UY points became available. One was buying new at AKV and the other was buying a add on at BWV.

I was just saying that I believe all resorts have the same Use Year months. I was not commenting on the availability of points for these use years at any given resort.

Sorry, I didn't understand. The points have UY's not the resorts.

Those would be two separate master contracts. You would be able to use them at the same resort at 11 months, but you could only use each contract for full days. You wouldn't be able to use a few days from one contract and a few from the other to make up one day - UNLESS, you use your once a year transfer for both contracts to transfer points from one to the other.
