Colorado DISers ... where are you ?

Thanks everyone! Going somewhere we know people (and their pets) have been happy with makes a big difference. We're excited to enter the world of dog ownership. Had to get that last Disney trip in and now the wait is getting long. We've applied with two local rescue groups, and met a golden/lab mix over the weekend from another situation (not the resuce) and the women e-mailed me Sat. night about how much they loved our family. They had a few more possible candidates to meet yesterday, and now since I haven't heard from her, I wonder if they found another family they think will be a better match. :sad1:

I know we will find the right dog. There are so many that are in the resuce groups, I just had no idea how slow the process is.

Thanks for letting me share/vent. :)

give them a couple more days...the right puppy is out there for you!!

Bumping this thread way up...

So guys, its been almost a year since we moved here! Part of our goal, was to become homeowners within a year or two. We met with a mortgage broker today, and ran some preliminary calculations and we determined that we should have no problems getting a loan for what we want. DH is extremely busy with work until July, so after he is done with that, we are going full steam into house hunting.

However, we still don't have a good idea on where we want to look. We want to take this spring and do some open houses, and garage saleing in neighborhoods we might be interested in. And I want to check out the online listings. But I am not sure which neighborhoods we want to look in, and which ones we want to avoid. So here's hoping my fellow Denver Metro DISers can help me out.

We are currently in Thornton, and we like it. We also know that we want to stay North and West. So Thornton/Northglenn, Westminster, Arvada, Broomfield as opposed to South or East (Highlands Ranch, Aurora, Littleton). We're not opposed to Denver itself, although I think we are leaning towards one of the suburbs. We'd love to be out the 36, especially Boulder, but that is out of our price range. We also would prefer older areas, instead of new construction, not a fan of HOAs.

So any ideas?

Thanks Hope I was going to bump this today as well :)

We are coming down for a visit to house hunt on march 23rd or so. When is Spring Break there? Or does it vary by district?

Thanks!

Varies by district.

Littleton's is the week of March 23rd.

Hope-I am not very versed on the area you are looking at. Sorry I can't be of any more help. I do know Westminster is where most of my relatives live, so it must be okay :cool2:

Same with up here in Thornton (Adams 12 district) - the week of March 23.

Hope - Some areas in Thornton which are not controlled by HOAs are:
Concord subdivision on the NW corner of Holly and 120th
Northhaven just north and east of Kohl's
Woodglen meadows east of Colorado between 124th and 128th
Sage Creek across from Shadow Ridge middle school on Holly
Riverdale Park up Holly at 128th (this is pretty new)
Parkridge Villages up by the pool at Colorado & 136th
Cottonwood Lakes/Summit Grove/Shadow Ridge, all just west of Colorado between 128th & 136th
Most of the homes between 109th and 120th and York to Holly are HOA free except for Knotts Landing and Skylake Ranch west of Holly St.
Most of the housing south of 104th is not controlled by HOAs; exceptions are Lambertson Lakes and Harvest Ridge (100th between Washington & York) and Riverdale Heights (100th and Colorado)

Most of these are well-established neighborhoods.

You might also check with the Thornton's Neighborhood Services department for assistance www.cityofthornton.net

Spring Break is the week before up in Greeley and Ft. Collins.

Hello,

We live in Pueblo, CO and Disney is my favorite place to visit. We recently entered an on-line contest and are 1 of 5 finalist to win a trip to Disney World. Hope we win. I am now a mommy24princesses, not 2!

Happy Snow day everyone!!

Wow quite the welcome LOL

Well we found our perfect house. I am so hopeful that it will still be available when we are ready to move. Its down towards copper leaf, there are some beauftiful neighborhood here! I think we're going to love it here

I am very, very glad I don't have to go anywhere today. I scheduled a recovery day from my vacation. I am glad we came back last night and NOT today! Washington DC is beautiful!

The sun is finally out in Louisville but there is tons of snow. Fortunately Boulder Valley is on Spring Break this week so no school for my son.

It took about 15 minutes for my DH and I to get to work at CU today and over an hour to get home. Ugh. CU is on Spring Break too but DH and I still had to work. They actually closed CU at 10:00 today.

The drive home on South Boulder Road was horrible. Traffic was crawling along and then the car in front of us (a BMW) got stuck and was spinning its wheels. Well the driver (who didn't bother to clear off her back windshield or use her rear window defroster) decided just to back up. OMG She hit us even though my DH was honking. Fortunately no damage to the cars (we have a Toyota Highlander). The confused lady got out of her car and asked how to get to Longmont. Ugh...not down South Boulder Road.

We're all fine though and now just enjoying the pretty snow. We certainly need it. How is everyone else?

My brother and family were up at my mom's in Longmont. They were coming down to my place in Littleton today. They left there at 9 am and aren't here yet, although they are really close now. It isn't snowing that much here right now, but there is a good foot out there.

We were going to drive to Colorado Springs today... glad that after looking at the weather reports we decided to call it off...

So how much snow did Colorado Springs get??

I think that if we left eairly enough we would have made it, but we were only spending one night there... I think we would have been stuck for more!

We have a complete white out east of Colorado Springs right now. Allthough according to cotrip.org the roads here are still open.

It stopped for a little while up here in Thornton, but it's back to snowing and blowing again. Not as hard as before, but enough that it's not worth the effort to shovel yet. I have no plans to go anywhere!

Haven't seen this thread active in a while. I hope everyone made it home okay.

Just checking in to wish all you Coloradian(is that how you say it?) warmth and safety. DS was supposed to fly to Denver today for a job interview in Colorado Springs, and that's how we learned about the snow storm-when his flight was cancelled. Fortunately he already talked to the place he was supposed to interview at-they'd anticipated this storm and sent him an Email even beforehand. So please stay warm and safe everyone!

Good day to sit inside and watch movies! We watched BOLT and Hollywood C already... more to come!

The kids went a bit bonkers for a while, but all is good now!

Loving watching it snow out there! And the dog is LOVING it, he keeps going out running around and coming in covered! He is a nut!
