Colorado DISers ... where are you ?

Actually they both love to cheer. Would love to know more.

Here is the website of the gym:

www.cheercentralsuns.com

It will give you info about both the gym and their special needs team.
There are 12 teams - 8 competitive, the special needs team and 3 rec teams.

Cheer Central's J5 team was the first team from Colorado to ever secure a World bid. And the gym is off to a good start this year. 8 teams competed at the UCA regionals last week, 8 wins. :goodvibes

There is a link in my siggie to the NBC Nightly News spot that was done on the special needs team last November.

I can't say enough about how wonderful this team has been for my daughter. The gym treats them as cheerleaders who happen to have special needs rather than special needs cheerleaders. We compete at all the same competitions as everybody else (except for the November one), including going to Atlanta for the Cheersport Nationals in February. One of the reasons the gym chose Cheersport is because of the involvement of special needs teams. It is estimated that there will be approximately 10 -15 teams there this year. The gym really pushes these kids (and young adults) to do the best they can and the kids respond in kind. The keep raising the bar and kids keep meeting it.

Here is our 2007 Nationals in Anaheim (which they won)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-vqA3xy4J8

and I can't link to it, but if you search the UCA nationals at WDW in March and look for Cheer Central Suns Special Athlete, there is video of that routine there. (which they also won).

This year's routine is so far beyond what they have done previously, that we parents are amazed and excited for them to start competing in 2 weeks.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I should also add that there is a special athlete cheer team down in Highland's Ranch too. They are part of Peak Athletics. We are huge supporters of each other. In fact, when NBC came out to do the story on us, the gym owners invited Peak up to our gym to be a part of it too. Those would be the girls with the green and teal uniforms on in the video.

But again, it is two different philosophies, so you would need to decide which one fits your needs better.

We tend to put a competition routine on the floor, Peak tends to put a performance on the floor.

For instance, we didn't compete at UCA couple of weekends ago because our routine was not polished. Peak did perform. But their routine consisted of both their cheerleaders and their Pom group - so a non-traditional routine that couldn't be scored under normal guidelines. We don't use props because it is not within the scoring guidelines. Both philosophies are great, although I must say I prefer our gym's philosophy of raising the bar of expectation for our kids and watching them meet it each and every time.

Their team travels ever other year to Nationals, we go every year, so that might be a financial consideration. Although both teams do have fund-raising arms that try to help defray the costs.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Kicking back on the couch watching the Macy's parade. Pies are done, turkey is waiting to occupy the oven.

jsmith - what an amazing achievement! Wow, I am in awe. We opted out of the IB program as well, though I have a good friend whose DD went through the program and gave it glowing reviews. There is more to life than pure academics - DD lives to dance, and she has a knack for photography.

the IB program must be different there then?

DS still has plenty of time to play hockey (which is why he lives LOL) and volunteer for things.

I will have to look into it more.

Welcome to Colorado Binny. You will love it here!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Hey Binny -

We also have a premier ice rink right in our small town  Hockey is huge around here with the kids!

That is the nice thing about the IB program in Boulder Valley. It is unique, one of only two in the country I believe (at least it was 4 years ago when DS was looking into it) where you can either take the entire curriculum for the IB diploma OR you can pick and choose which IB classes you want to take for the IB certificate.

So, if you are really good in math but are terrible in English, you can take the IB Math courses for an IB certificate in math and the regular English courses for plain HS credit. You can get as many certificates as you want or you can go through the full IB program for the diploma.

You can get the benefit of the IB classes without having to commit to the full entire IB program if you want to do something like sports, etc.

Ok, so who was crazy enough to get out and shop today for BF? PoohFriend and I got out around 4:30. We were done by 10 after something like 6 or 7 stores. Did you read on the Budget Board about a Walmart employee getting killed by the stampeding shoppers. What a sad story!

I avoid Black Friday like the plague. I got as far as the gym and the post office today.

Yay for Black Friday.....I LOVE Black Friday. I got all my Christmas shopping done and some birthday shopping done.

I finally got my friend to go out with me for Black Friday after 10 YEARS of asking her. LOL I didnt even have to pull the "This will be the last time we get to go together" card :rotfl2:
We had a blast though.

Ugh so we found a house (online) that we both agreed on (no small feat I assure you!) and when we get the info on it from our realtor we found out that it has water damage due to frozen pipes!

Oh well back to the drawing board. :confused3

Thanks for the info on the IB stuff I will look it over. DS is excited because we have been doing a lot of research on hockey there. I told him I could try to get in touch with a friend of mine who used to play there and see if he could get him any info. He is thrilled. We have been doing roller hockey here because there is only rink (an hour away) and our ice time (they go by the high school) is at 5 Am on Monday. NOT gonna happen.

Wow, it is so beautiful out. I can't believe how much snow we got last night. I thought it was going to be "showers".

I agree! DD poked her head out and then went back in for a jacket and a camera. She took some really pretty pictures, which, of course, will live on her camera forever.

I am loving this snow!!! We got a ton of snow today. We went sledding yesterday and today at sledding hill.

We barely have any snow at all, although it is snowing right now (Boulder/Louisville/Superior).

Funny how different the weather can be just a few miles apart. :goodvibes

And then it continued past noon today. They thought it would end about then. NOPE, I had to continue shoveling. It's going to be icy tomorrow!

Oh yeah, we got a lot of snow today also. It is really beautiful with all this snow! i have to learn to drive on all this snow. Being from Texas, we probably see this much snow in 10 years!

Hey everyone, can I ask your opinion?

This is a little unorthodox I suppose but I was wondering if you could help me with this house. We are looking into several in this neighbourhood, the schools seem to be decent, the houses are nice and the price is right.

Can anyone give me further guidance?
Thanks!

I'm not familiar with this neighborhood other than it is relatively new, within (and more likely newer than) the last 20 years. It looks like a very nice house, lots of space for a great price.

I did....but we didn't get going until 6:30...2 hours later we finally got out of JoAnn's:scared1: I got what I wanted but had to return a lidless pot yesterday and found most of the stores had the same deals (or better)and more merchandise. :sad2: So I got my first Columbia coat for $80 :cool1:
