Color Pencils and Water color ???

Hi all, my DD loves to draw. What are some good brand and/or types of pencils, color pencils, etc..? She is in her teens so breaking them should not be a problem. Thanks for any and all replies.

I do some paper crafting, and occasionally use water color pencils. (I.e. I am NOT an artist...)

I like Staedtler Karat Aquarell Watercolor Pencils, they make a nice set, and pretty reasonably priced. I think you can buy sets at Michael's (i.e. use a coupon!).

Faber Castell is also a nice brand for water color pencils. An art store near me has them individually - if I need a specific color.

One thing I would highly, highly recommend is to get a really, really nice pencil sharpener. (An "art" store will have these.) They really are in the $3-$5 range, but it makes a HUGE difference in what she is doing. A regular pencil sharpener will not cut it.

Also - don't feel like you need to get a big 120-pencil set. One of the fun things with water colors is the ability to blend and make other colors. a 12 or 24 set will probably be more than adequate.

I would also get her a tablet or some big sheets of water color paper. And, get some water color brushes too! (Again - micheals has a whole section - use a coupon!!)

For color pencils, I would recommend the Prismacolor Color Pencils. They are a bit pricey, but when you use a 50% off one item coupon, you can get them at a decent price at Michaels, JoAnns, or Hobby Lobby.

We always used the Prismacolor colored pencils back when I went go school for graphic arts. They were really good and kind of expensive. I can't remember the brand of watercolor paint we used. I don't do much with either anymore unfortunately. I do more computer graphics now! It's nice that your DD enjoys drawing and painting!

Absolutely a smallish set of Prismacolor for color pencils. And some good paper, eraser, sharpener, and maybe a blending tool (sort of like a stick of rolled up paper with a tip). I like a basic set of a few colors I needed, and a range of greys (cool, warm, and french) for shading.
Does she have a good set of basic pencils in different soft/hard leads? My favorite when I took classes around that age was trying charcoal: both sticks and the charcoal pencils. She would want a separate eraser for that as it gets messy!

My daughter has a degree in drawing & painting from the San Francisco Institute of Art and Prismacolor pencils is what she used (and still uses!) She also could probably use an assortment of different drawing pencils and several erasers and blending sticks.

My son is in a gifted art class at school and their focus is to create art and the teacher submits them into different art contests. They use Prismacolor pencils in his class and that's what I'm going to get him for Christmas. I also agree with a good sharpener as well.

We always used Prisma Color Colored pencils in my art classes, and I eventually got myself a small set of them.
