Day Four found our family at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington, the single man without whom the United States would not exist, in my humble opinion. He was a great man, by any measure, and rightly deserves the title of "Father of our Country".

Here are a few shots from around the grounds of the estate:

I see you were up in my neck of the woods! I love Mt. Vernon. We usally get annual passes and go whenever we can. It was a wonderful place to bring the kids just to let them roll down the hill in front of the mansion. There's just enough running around room and animals to keep them interested, and now they love to go there whenever we can.

Thanks for showing the photos!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit there, especially the new GW museum. Extremely well done and informative. Washington was truly a great American and a man who without whom we probably would not have gained our independence.

Only negative part of our visit was trying to navigate to I-66 afterward. We ended up on the (George Washington) "Parkway To Nowhere", back across DC to RFK stadium, and finally onto I-495, right at rush hour. A NIGHTMARE!

Regardless, VA is a treasure trove of places of historical and photographic interest, surpassing even Disney World. Guess I'll be banned for saying that so, "Goodbye, everyone".

I'm so sorry! Well, it's the official "Welcome to DC" tourist hazing tradition. Everyone gets caught up in the traffic mess one way or another. When I lived in DC, I used to spy lost tourists on my way to church on Sunday mornings, and I'd just tell them to follow me and I'd bring them to where they wanted. So many times people would be heading out of town when they actually wanted to see the monuments, which were in the opposite direction.

The traffic is even a nightmare for those of us who live here, but it is a giagantic black hole for tourists. I grew up in the Los Angeles area, and to me the traffic is worse here. I'll take LA driving any day.

But, I digress. I also have been enjoying your photos of Williamsburg and Jamestown. I accompanied my son's 4th grade day-long field trip there just the week before traveling to Disney World (as in 5:45 am - 7:00 pm!). It was the first time I used my new camera, too, my trial run before Disney. I'll have to post some of those photos once I get my Disney stuff in order.
