I graduated 17 years ago and obviously could care less about my grades back then! I was looking at my transcript and noticed an "F" on a course I never took. It was and independent study class that I withdrew from due to lack of time. How do I get it changed? Normally, I wouldn't care but I'm considering going back to school.

Did you withdraw late? Most schools have a deadline. If you withdraw past the deadline or miss the paperwork, it goes as an F on your transcript.

I'd call the school, but I don't know if they can fix it 17 years later.

Would it matter at this point? I suspect that there won't be much that can be done, but perhaps a written "I just noticed that" to the institution you are submitting it to or just completely ignoring it. I always wonder how much attention is paid to transcripts anyway.

According to the admissions people, LOTS - especially the GPA. I don't know whether to believe it either.

The most likely explanation is that you withdrew from the course too late. You don't get very long to pull out without any repercussions. After a couple of weeks the class goes on your transcript as an "incomplete" or "WI." You may not have noticed at the time because many schools give you a year to retake the class before converting the "incomplete" to an "F" on your transcript, and adjusting your gpa accordingly.

Since it was so long ago I am sure that you can strengthen your application with your resume of work experience, volunteerism, travels, etc--whatever you've been up to in the interim period of time. All of that stuff is really important too!

I'd write a note explaining, or call your high school- although I doubt there is much they could do..

Good luck!

Some schools treat withdrawals the same as a failed class, no matter when you withdrew. I found that out the hard way when I was unable to have one reversed on my transcript. :headache:

I have the same situation on my college transcript, twice! Both are the college's mistake, and I even tried to get one fixed at the time, they said they'd fix it, and never did. The second one can only be changed by the college professor, and he has retired. This was over 18 years ago as well.

When I submit my college transcript to anyone, I always include the reasons why there are 2 F's in with all the A's and B's. (My lowest legitimate grade is a B+). No one has questioned me on those two blips.
