Anyone on here from that area? I'll be at Texas A & M from 5/15 to 5/19 at a conference. Just curious. While we'll be going to presentations, we'll also have some free time, and we're renting a car as we're flying in to Intercontinental in Houston. Anything we should see or do? I'm taking two students, one older who would love to go to Austin but I'm not sure we'll have time. We're staying an extra night in Houston and possibly going to Galveston for an afternoon.

I'm in Austin! :wave2: I have lived in College Station, grew up in a town 30 minutes away, have family in Houston and was born in Galveston. :lmao: Galveston- go to Moody Gardens, Houston- so much its hard to narrow down! If you like ice cream and are familiar with Blue Bell ice cream (not sure where you are from), you should go to Brenham (my hometown) and tour the Blue Bell factory. Pretty cool. And it's only 30 minutes from College Station. Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks for the info - I may have to take you up on the questions. I ended up making reservations for our final night at a Houston airport hotel so we're close on Sat morning for our flight back. We'll have Friday afternoon and evening free - unless something changes we're going to go to Galveston for the afternoon.

I lived in Texas as a child, from 3-5 yrs old, in Victoria. The only other time there was a quick trip to Dallas to visit a friend.

I looked at A&M's webpage and there will be baseball games while you are there. Also, the George Bush library is on campus.

Thanks, I'll have to check them out. There hasn't been a full itinerary for the conference yet so I'm not sure what all will be going on but our evenings are mostly free.

Some Aggie places to eat are Freebirds, Double Daves, and The Chicken. The Chicken is a bar but they serve food during the day and it is good (at least it was when I was a student). Check out the athletic facilities, they are top knotch! It is a great campus!

I'm really looking forward to it. I've looked at some of the web site and it looks like a beautiful campus. I'll keep the eating places in mind too, thanks.
