College Internship questions

Hi! I am a mom of a college student that is applying for a Spring Internship. I am told that the internships are different from the College Program, because the student is actually applying for a position in the field of college study that they are majoring in. Does that mean that the way the internship works is different from how the college program works?

I ask because my daughter has a second interview coming up next week, and she forgot to ask at the last interview how long this process takes. All she knows is that she has to be available between December 29 and June 27, and she is interviewing for a position directly relating to her major in the animal sciences. From what I am seeing here though, those with the College Program are done interviewing, so is the internship a later start?

Another thing I, as a mom that is also an obsessive planner of vacations, was wondering, is there more after the 2nd interview, or does she find out right then if she receives the internship?

And if she does receive the internship, is there enough time between next week and December 29 to go down to Orlando and find a place for her to live? My daughter was told that the interns don't live in Disney housing, that is for the college program participants, and she needs to find her own housing. I am wondering when we will find time to get down to Disney (3 hour flight) to find something, then return, have her finish fall semester at University, pack up and then driver her stuff down to Orlando. I am just not seeing how we will find the time to do this all in the span of just about a month and a half!

Also, is housing for the internship students plentiful? Will she need her car?

Finally, do you find that you were sick of Disney by the time your internship/college program ended? I ask because on June 29, we are supposed to depart home with my daughter, her sister, and a friend, and spend a few days at Disney before we leave on the Dream's cruise. This has been planned for years, and booked a year ago, as the summer of 2011 is when she turns 21 and younger daughter turns 16. I am just wondering if she will be totally bored and just want to stay at home after 6 months away. I know everyone is different, but cruises can't be cancelled without penalties after final payment is due. Yet I don't want her to feel pressured to be at Disney some more. Like I said, I like to plan things out, and try to anticipate all scenarios.

Oh wait, one more question - if she is accepted into the internship and I decided to fly down to visit her, is there a limit to how often she can reserve a room for me (or do interns not receive discounts on the rooms?)? We are a close-knit family, and she has already stated that I am to visit at least once a month, but I don't want to cause any problems for her, either.

Hopefully we find a place for her that accepts cats, taking her cat with her might make the 6 months separation easier on her, too. She presently drives home from college every 2 - 3 weeks to see her cat, ;)(so she says), so I hope there will be pet friendly places available. I just know nothing about this and nothing about the area!

Any information would be greatly appreciated. :)

I would love some input on the housing question as well. I am moving to Orlando in December for a PI that starts in January. Because I have a daughter and two cats, I will need my own housing. The problem is that I know very little about where to live in Orlando. We will be living solely on my PI salary (not much) and I need a three bedroom place. Of course I want it to be a safe area and close to work.
Anyone have advice on a good apartment or condo for rent? :earsboy:
