Hi all! My one and only child will be graduating from Mississippi State University in May, 2012. I have a great and talented friend who gave me the idea of making a DVD for her, and other members of the family, of her life so far, including Graduation pictures.

My friend has the software, etc, and showed me one she made for her son's High School graduation. It was a short one ( 4 minutes) and she used the song "If I Ruled the World"-I think that's the title. Anyway, I plan on making mine longer, probably 10 minutes, and need some ideas for some moving meaningful songs to use. I already know I will use "In My Life" by the Beatles, because I love it, and I was thinking of using either the Dirty Dancing song (Time of My Life) or the theme song for the Biggest Loser. I will have to look at the lyrics first, but I just like both of those songs.

Anyone have any ideas? I would love any and all input.

P.S My daughter likes all kinds of music, even country, and she likes the old stuff too because we are old :rotfl2: TIA

For the teen years you could use "Teenage Daughters" by Martina McBride!

I actually am doing something similiar for our only DD but it's for HS graduation. Her younger brothers are helping with picking out photos and my DS15 is helping techno-challenged mom put it in a power point.

I will pull my list of lyrics today..

What about Katy Perry's "Baby, Your're A Firework".

My name is Nancy too-what a coincidence. Thanks for the recommendations. I will listen to them on youtube later, and I guess it's possible to google the lyrics?

My friend said to allow 6 seconds per photo to allow fade-in/out, which is a good tip. She started hers with a picture of her son right out of the womb, and I love that idea. She also had a nice mix of photos-serious/funny/family/Holiday/school/sports.

Have you done one before?

I am not a big country music person, but the lyrics to "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts would be great. I heard this at a wedding once for Father/Daughter Dance and loved the words.

Thanks-I'll check that one out. My DD never liked Country music until she headed South to college. We're from St. Louis---home of the World Series Champs!!! :cheer2: (Couldn't resist!)

We love country here in the midwest!!! Tend to listen to alot of it..

Here is a few more songs:

You're Gonna Miss This ~ Trace Adkins
You'll Always Be My Baby ~ Sara Evans
Don't Forget to Remember Me ~ Carrie Underwood
Never Grow Up ~ Taylor Swift

Thanks PN! I am going to check these out. My friend told me to get a mixture of poignant songs, (In My Life will work for one of those) and uplifting, more upbeat music. I am getting great suggestions on here. I knew I would!! Thanks everyone-keep 'em coming!:worship:

You are welcome.

I'm making my DD a scrapbook of song lyrics with photos to take to college.. I'm also going to burn them onto CD so she can listen to them at school.
Her little brothers, chose "You Got A Friend In Me" so we are doing a Toy Story theme for that set of pages.

What a great idea! My DD was so excited about going away to college--I'll never forget that day!

And now, she's almost finished. Unbelievable how fast time flies by. Your idea about using a Disney song has me thinking..she LOVED Mermaid and the Lion King--maybe I could use a song from one of those movies.

My DD loved Little Mermaid growing up.... I really need to find a song to add to her lyric book from there... She did make me promise to leave Barney out! LOL Maybe the last page will be..

The infamous Barney song:
I love you, You love me.. We're a happy family... and end the book with a recent family photo...

There ya go--I think that's cute! Barney was mega-annoying, and so were those 3 little whatever they weres-do you know who I mean? I can't think of the name. We loved Pooh, and Thomas the Train.

Tellatubbies!! I remembered!

LOL! Luckily my kids never got into Tellatubbies! Barney was what they watched when I got my shower...that way I didn't have to see it...but PJ use to sing that song to me in the car when we would go get Dad from the airport.
My boys loved Thomas and especially anything Disney.

We did a 21st birthday celebration this past May for my DD--4 friends, my husband and I, and of course my daughter. It was an experience, but I wouldn't do it again. Perhaps one friend for her and that's it. DH and I were outnumbered!!!

Nan--I love this idea  Do you mind if I lift it?

Of course you may!! I'm doing my book in 8.5 x 11. I have it templated already..just need to get life to slow down so I can catch up. I'm so looking forward to next week ~ holiday week... 4 free days....

I've decided a few things since I started this thread---I want to be able to understand the words to the songs I choose, I don't want anything Country, tho I do like it (please, no haters!) and I'm leaning towards music I like vs. what she likes, ie oldies like me:lmao:

So far, I'm still keeping "In My Life", and have added "Shower the People" by James Taylor. Who doesn't like JT? I'm also hoping for a possible tune from Eric Clapton, Sting/Police, or U2. My DD likes all this stuff too, so it works. I was toying with "It's a Beautiful Day" by U2--have always loved that song. There's a long, cold Winter comin'-plenty of time to work on this!

Narrowing it down is best.. the most important part is that you are happy with what you are making for your daughter. We love all types of music here but country is our favorite! ;O
