Collapsible cane recommendations

My mom is traveling to WDW with me & my daughters next month, and she is still getting her strength back after a knee replacement. She will likely rent an ecv, but also wants to have a cane with her. I suggested that a foldable /collapsible cane might be a good idea, since she can easily carry it in the ECV basket. Does anyone have any suggestions for a particular cane, that is sturdy & safe but not expensive? Thanks!

Is she getting any therapy? If so, I’d suggest talking to her Physical Therapist

I have a couple of them and have bought them at both CVS and Walmart. I really like the style that has the cushioned handle. I have no clue what the brand may be.

Get one with a soft or gel handle. The first time I had to use a cane, I had a wooden handle and developed horrid blisters on my hand.

I agree about a cane with a cushioned or soft grip handle making for a more comfortable experience. The folding ones I have seen at Walmart have hard surface handles.

Amazon has a huge selection. Some come with small carrying cases. If you order one online, make sure to check that the height is adjustable, and that it folds small enough to fit into a purse or carryon or ECV basket. A cane with an offset handle might be more comfortable to use.

Pay particular attention to weight limitations on folding canes - many, for example, have an upper limit of 250 pounds, and you should strictly stay within the manufacturer's limits for safety's sake.

I have one that is more than 10 years old now, and has been very reliable, sturdy and comfortable. I have always carried it on my personal mobility device everywhere I travel, and I use it daily. Sadly, they are no longer sold on Amazon, so I can't offer a link, but the main thing to pay attention to is function over form - stay within weight limits and make sure that Mom can easily fold it by herself (it can require a bit of hand strength for some models). I use a short length of Velcro OneWrap to keep mine closed.

I agree with the Hurricane recommendation. Also, I bought a collapsable one with an off-set, well-padded curved handle from Amazon. I don't see the exact one there any more, but there are some similar ones. However, the Hurricane one was folded up in my basket every time I left the room on my last trip. Didn't need anything to keep it folded, stayed fine. I had a bright purple one so that when I needed it, it would be easy to locate.

I have the bright red one

When buying medical equipment, I always look at the expense of what could happen if the equipment were to fail or not be enough rather than just looking at the initial purchasing cost. A good quality cane can also be passed among family for years.

I always use Tornado rain tips because they work like gecko feet even on wet surfaces that I frequently encounter. Much cheaper than medical bills and lost wages from falling. Bathroom floors at WDW are often wet which is where many don’t take their ECVs.

Ive found palm grip canes give me more control and stability to my walking and there is a folded version.

Are these the tips you use? I fully agree with your point - buying a quality product once will be *far* cheaper and easier than the bitter taste of regret while recovering from an accident...
