Coffee pots in a stateroom?

I once worked at a company that banned departmental coffee makers because the scientists (lab chemists!) kept leaving theirs on and starting fires.

We would bring a french press. The hot water tap at the drink station was very hot. Very hot water is the key to making good french press coffee.

Room service brought us a carafe. I can’t remember what teas they brought, but it would be easy to pick up tea bags of your choice from the beverage station the previous night. The beverage station has a variety of black teas and herbal teas.

The issue with the tea is the hot water is brought in the same thermal pitcher that coffee is served in. So the tea has this coffee after taste.

DH is by no means a coffee
connoisseur/snob and even he thought the coffee in deck was awful. He was super pleased I had brought some VIA packs from Starbucks.

In my experience, the carafe sometimes has had that lingering coffee taste and other times hasn't. So now I request one that has no coffee smell. That has worked for me.

It is served with a selection of Twinings teas but theses days I just request two bags of my favorite of those. The tray will also have sugar and some kind of creamer but I now ask them to skip that, too, as I use neither in my tea.
