Codes concern LONG

Must say = it's human nature to feel "left out" when you read info & posts as to various discounts available @ WDW that preclude your participation: free dining, AP codes, general room codes, etc.

Note to self: all codes are bonuses/sales prices...if you miss one, the next one is just around the corner if you're flexible! (Unfortunately, our plans are always "etched in stone" due to work schedules.)

Good post. Disney seems to be trying to reduce the need to discount. DME, paid dining, adding refrigerators/coffee pots to most resorts and even dropping the fee for the use of the health club all add value.

I wonder how Disney thought the PL experiment went. It certainly makes it harder for guests with existing reservations to call and demand they get a current code applied to their reservation.

CMS shouldn't be rude, nor should guests calling. How many times a week before phone calls asking about discounts becomes rude? How many times can you ask the CM to look for secret PIN codes before it becomes rude?

Great post, CarolA. As others have mentioned countless times here, codes are a bonus/perk and should not be considered to be the norm. When the travel industry is booming, as it seems to be these days, there is really no reason to offer discounts.

Book resorts that are within your means, and if a discount comes, great! If not, you won't go in debt wishing you had gotten a code. :thumbsup2

It's interesting though because I talked with 3 different Disney workers when we were there in June and they said it's been a slow summer so far. This was at the end of June and early July.
