Coconut ice cream?

Did I hear that right? They were just showing the President on the news - eating an ice cream cone - and I thought they said it was "coconut" ice cream..

Is there really such a thing? Sounds yummy to me (I love coconut) and I can think of a lot of dessert recipes I have that call for vanilla ice cream that would be great with coconut ice cream instead..

Any brands that you know of?

Since I am lactose intolerant I eat ice cream made out of coconut all the time. YUMMY!

I love coconut ice cream. Our local ice cream stand sells Coconut ice cream with chocolate covered almonds. Its to die for!

Yes I'm serious. I've never been able to bring myself to try it though, I love lobster and I love ice cream, but not together!!

I guess I shouldn't really be surprised.. My DD and I attended a large garlic festival once and yes - they had garlic ice cream! There are just some things that should not be added to ice cream.. Ewwwww!!

C Ann they have garlic ice cream at the Gilroy Garlic Festival here in CA, they also have deep fried garlic there. mmmmmm

But yes, coconut ice cream is very common around here, I've seen it in my grocer's freezer section. Can't remember the brand but I'm sure it was a specialty of some kind.

Nestle makes it and sells it in Mexico. They don't stock much ice cream there and it is very expensive (around 88 pesos or $7.30 for the what used to be half gallon size maybe 1.5 quarts or so), but from what I have seen in the stores, they stock as much Coconut ice cream as all the other flavors combined.

When we were there in June we had some scrumptious homemade Green Apple ice cream. To die for....

Yes, often in Thai restaurants they have it.

But DH just bought Caribbean Coconut Gelato last week from our local Publix and it is sooooooooooooo good!

But it sounds like some of you are talking about a no cream, 'cconut milk' type ice cream, I would like to try some of that

No way!!! How did I miss that? I wonder if only certain Aldi's sell them? I'm an Aldi fan and I don't remember ever seeing them there..

C Ann dont know where you are located but around here (SE PA) very occasionally i see a Hershey brand of ice cream (dont think its the same company). When I see it I tear through the case looking for coconut. I buy all they have so if Ive been there before you, you're out of luck. It is the best!

Hershey Brand???? The General Store up here carries HB!! I have to run out for milk tomorrow, so I'm going to check and see if they carry the coconut..

Thats the only type of place I ever see it. Little corner stores. Hope you find some!
