Has anyone stayed at Coco Key hotel and water park? We are thinking of staying there with the kids, but would love to hear some reviews. We will not be going to Disney this trip...

We just returned from a week in Orlando, stayed 1 night at Coco key before heading to Royal Pacific at Universal. We absolutely hated Coco key. The water park was so unbelievably crowded that I was scared to leave my kids for a second. It felt dirty, our room smelled like B.O. and check in was a nightmare. It got good reviews on a lot of websites but we would never even consider going back.

The waterpark area is right off of I-4 also, ever time we drive down the highway and see the lines at the waterpark I can't help but think why would anyone stay there. There are much nicer resorts with waterparks around. we have family styling at the Omni this weekend and we spent the day at the waterpark there yesterday, it was great! Reunion resort also has 2 waterparks that are our favorites.

Thanks for the replies! Pictures make it look good, but we were wondering.

I stayed there 2 years ago. My friend and I took our kids there for 4 days. Neither of us thought it was that bad....it just wasn't all that great either. Including the resort fee we paid approx. $90/night and that's what it's worth. If the resort is your main vacation then Coco is not the place to go.

That's said I would stay again if only for a couple of nights...but it would have to be $90 or less.

The staff were all very nice. We had a water leak in the bathroom ceiling and within 5 minutes of my call to the front desk maintenance was knocking on the door. It was repaired and the bathroom was cleaned up.

My friend and her son ate in the onsite restaurants 3 times and said it was very good. Her son actually ate his food...which rarely happened on that trip.

The only thing that really bugged me was the fact that there are no fridges in the rooms and they can not give you one. We both had medication that required refridgeration and had to keep it in an ice bucket.

One other thing to note is that Coco is located at the busiest part of I-drive. The traffic is a nightmare around the I-drive/Sand Lake Rd. intersection.

It is a "you get what you pay for" resort.

If your budget allows you to stay somewhere else, then look elsewhere.

I will always be a fan of Gaylord Palms and Fort Wilderness Cabins. Now one awesome part of our last stay at Gaylord Palms (for a cheer competition but we stayed at the resort) was at one point it was raining hard outside. I love that even if rains most of the day, you can still enjoy the resort and not be stuck in the room. There are movies in the atrium and plenty of space for the kids to explore.

There are lots of great resorts, you just have to pick what works for your budget.
