The cherry syrup in the freestyle machine tastes nothing like the cherry syrup at Sonic. It has a very distinct cough syrup flavor - like what they use in Robitussin.

The cherry coke at Sonic is fine.

The cherry syrup to coke ratio is off. Plus it doesn't taste like the same cherry syrup that's in regular Cherry Coke. Tastes more like cherry flavored soda mixed with coke.

This. To make it taste good, you have to mix regular coke with the fountains cherry coke in order to get a good ratio. Straight cherry coke is way too much cherry syrup.

From the Freestyle machines, I agree that the cherry coke is not as good as the more traditional variant. Although the cherry/vanilla coke and the raspberry coke are fantastic

I usually do Raspberry-Vanilla Coke Zero out of the Freestyle machines and like it a lot. I fill up about 2/3 with Raspberry Coke Zero first, then the last 1/3 with Vanilla Coke Zero.

I think those machines also make the regular coke taste nasty. It picks ip all the other flavors and is just horrible.

So very true. I was enthralled by these machines when they were first rolling them out but I find that unless the machine is a brand-new installation it will soon impart a very strange aspertame/cherrynillalime flavour to every drink it dispenses.

At restaurants that "feature" these machines, I now ask them to make my drink behind the counter. Apparently I'm not the only one making this request as I've gotten more than a few "I hate the taste from the machine as well" comments.

Depends on how much syrup they use. If you ask for extra syrup or if the person making the drinks over does it, it can have an off taste. I have bought cherry syrup to have at home and if you over do it, it can have a bit of a medicine-y taste to it.

I get a cherry coke almost every day at Sonic and use the freestyle machines at the places that have them. They are very close to the same taste.

DH is a bit of a cherry coke snob and he says freestyle Cherry Coke is superior to a straight Cherry Coke dispenser.

Splitsville definitely has a machine. I saw it there on Saturday. I believe they sold a refillable mug for use with it.
