Okay, I have never eaten at The Brown Derby and decided next trip will be the time. Okay so several questions, first what is your favorite menu item there? I am thinking doing a lunch there and going for the cobb salad, how big is it? Anyone have any pics? Is it big enough to share? The cobb salad for two for dinner how big is that? Any other comments on the Brown Derby would be great too. Thanks!

The Cobb is mostly definitely big enough to share and it is GOOD GOOD GOOD!!! They chop up all the ingredients really fine and then bring it out and prepare it at your table. If you like things like bleu cheese, tomatoes, bacon and avacados (which i do), you will really enjoy it. I can eat a whole one myself as a meal or can split one as an appetizer and even then I consider it a fairly big appetizer. It's my favorite item on the BD menu.

Sorry, but we are one of those that didn't care for it. We went five years ago and we had terrible service (there were maybe five or six tables combined that were occupied during the lunch hour we were there and it took forever to get our drinks, then have our order taken--and when we asked questions, we were answered rudely) and food was mediocre at best. DH and I both had some kind of steak and mine was not cooked properly (sent it back and took quite a while for it to come back out) and it was fatty. DH, who is a lover of desserts, hated the grapefruit cake--said it was the worse thing he had ever tasted in his life. Now, we usually give each place at least two tries, but we just can't justify using two table service credits on something we were so displeased with when there are many places we have yet to try and favorites we won't pass up.

Now, that being said, you should try it yourself. Everyone has different tastes and expectations. I've read rave reviews about the cobb salad. I didn't have it...not a big salad eater.

Bf and I were there last week, and I ordered the salad as an appetizer (the chef made a single portion), and I was not a fan of it at all. And I looove salads, bf disliked it more than I did. The rest of our meal was wonderful, bf ordered the duck entree and I ordered the steak. We were really full but still enjoyed the desserts! The banana one (sorry I can't remember the name), and the creme brulee were really good.

Thanks for your honesty, the BD is the only TS we haven't tried at MGM... err... DHS (I'm never gonna get used to that!) We did Mama Melrose's last week, we weren't impressed. We will give BD a shot next time just cause we never have but it's good to be warned, lol.

i've had the cobb salad at BD several times (always with extra avocado!) and it's always perfect - no where else can make it as good as BD!

Brown Derby is my family's favorite restaurant on property :thumbsup2 We've always had fantastic service (much better than Yachtsman Steakhouse) and the food has been incredible. We go each trip. BTW, if you're on the DDP, I recommend paying OOP for this meal. It's not expensive enough to make it worth 2 TS credits (our meal at Norway in June cost more than our meal at BD did the night before)

DD14 started to develop a "foodie" palate at BD (she drools over the pork)and DS11 had the Chef come to the table to tell him that they have "the best hotdog on property"

Cobb Salad: appetizer for 2 is more than enough for 2 to share, or 1 person to have as an entree.
Haven't tried any other appy's because you can only have the Original Cobb Salad here :goodvibes

Entrees:
The Pork Rib Chop, Blackened Grouper, Salmon, Ahi Tuna have all been fantastic!!! (the marscapone polenta with the salmon is to die for :cloud9: )

Dessert:
DH & DD love the Grapefruit cake, because it's light & different. I love the flourless chocolate cake and DS is a creme brulee lover

No problem. To tell you the truth, we've done Mama Melrose the last years years and we were a little disappointed in it this year. Service was okay, but food wasn't as good as last couple of years. I think we'll eat away from the park on our Studios day from now on.

just called disney dining and added lunch at BD for our december trip!

cobb salad, here i come!!!

(hope they'll let us get crab cakes during lunch, too...)

You will enjoy! Cobb salad is SOOOO GOOOOD. It turned me into a huge Cobb salad fan where now I order it wherever I find it on the menu. Of course they are never as good as the Brown Derby's. I had lunch there last Sept 06 and I had coconut shrimp, Cobb salad and the white choc cheesecake. Brown Derby had great elegant atmosphere and I had a great server. Definitely plan on going back!

we booked lunch with an imagineer at Brown Derby next week and after reading through the menu, I must admit I am a little apprehensive about the choices. Glad to see I am not the only one who isn't too keen on the menu, and appreciate any positive opinions.

:rotfl: I don't share my Cobb Salad either. It is all I have for lunch and I don't find it too large at all. We do make lunch our main meal of the day.
No one else's compares to BD. I have made it a lot at home using their recipe, but don't have the patience to chop it that fine. ;)
I don't like bleu cheese and they happily leave it off.
We have ADRs there in Nov. :yay:

That's what I was going to ask. :thumbsup2 We're a family with very adventurous palates, but none of us like blue cheese for some reason. :confused3 Now that I know we can have them hold the blue cheese (thanks, btw :) ), I'm thinking we'll get a cobb salad & maybe another appy for the 4 of us to share next month.

Man do I miss the Cobb Salad. It was always awesome. I have tried to make it at home but can't get my lettuce chopped fine enough. Man I loved that salad.

For those wondering what is in it, it is finely chopped romaine lettuce and on top is chopped tomato, avocado, hard boiled egg, bacon, ham, chicken, blue cheese and chives. It is mixed with the dressing at your table.

I'm drooling.

It is so funny how everyone is soo different. I did not like the Cobb salad at all. But my son had the steak and he loved it. We are trying it again in Oct but I will definately not order the cobb salad. :)

Oh, you will have a great time! I felt the same way about the menu before I did my Lunch with an Imagineer back in April, but there are several menu items to chose from and even going outside of my comfort zone with a fish dish, it was really great food. The cobb salad was really great! I am spoiled now and only want my cobb salad the way that HBD serves it. Honestly, the only not so great part of the whole meal was the grapefruit cake. I just didn't dig it that much.

Have fun and don't forget to report back on your experience!

Hey hey! Yeah I got chicken parm and it kind of sucked, Jamie got the steak and it was good I wished I would have got what she did but I don't think it would be worth a return trip. My fave in the studios is the 50s.
