Coach: where are the handbags made?

Well I would have thought Coach would be made in a place unlike even the ones you described. I am shocked frankly. I think quality and Made in China is an oxymoron. I could see buying them if they were priced like any other Target purse as the majority of those are made in China. I can't see paying a lot of money for something made in China. Just hearing that takes away the whole designer aspect to it.

In all honesty, after reading this and looking at my tags in my new bag. It ticked me off. I paid $1020 for the bag and wallet with cosmetics bag. I know you cannot completely stop shopping from china, I would have gone more for a bag made in italy etc....
but I boxed it up today and returned it. No clue why, I think being I have
AMERICAN MADE COACH bags, it bothered me to pay SO MUCH!

I now have $1020 for a trip in Aug to disney! It was not a big loss for me, for the fact it was just an impulse buy. but I wish I knew ahead of time, I would have not bought it.

still have no clue why, maybe the price?

but thanks for the thread....I now have a paid for trip to disney!

I have about a dozen Coach bags, wallet, keyfobs, wristlets. Not a huge collection by other's standards, but kind of an investment for me. I never gave a second thought to their origin because, to me, Coach is a quintessential American Brand, so where could it be made but in the US? A few months ago I glanced at the label on one of them and saw "Made in China" :scared1: :( I was horrified and vowed never to buy Coach again. It doesn't make a dent in their pocket, but I don't care to spend my money on them. And let me tell you, it pains me every time I walk by the store and see all the new models :lmao: .

I can't say I won't buy anything made in China (I would love to, but some things you just can't find :furious: ) but I conciously look for products made elsewhere. Two areas where I won't budge are toys and food products, though. We have enough poisons in the air and water around us as it is :hippie:

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 The way I am looking at it is. I know what I did does not make much of a difference. But if each person in some way shape or form does just one thing, that adds up. Will I buy when in disney, yes, but very little. I just want the resort. and last I knew...THAT is made in Orlando! lol

I've visited a few Chinese sweatshops, and these were the "showplaces" owned by American companies. They'd never let you in the run of the mill sweatshops.

They are pretty grim. They hire pretty much only young migrant women from rural areas, who they are free to mistreat because they have no family to stand up for them. When the women turn 23 or 24, they are often fired as being too old and all used up. They work 6 days a week, often for 14 hours a day. Any complaints or whisperings of organizing and they are fired on the spot.

It really makes me sick how much stuff is made in China.

I still think the quality of Coach is really good though. My bag states it was made in China.

I have 2 Chinas and 1 Turkey.

wdwlover,

Hey, you've got extra moola for your upcomiing vacation now!

I don't think I'll purchase another Coach. My Dd's really into Coach, and I was shopping with her, and it was 2/3 off, and well you know, LOL.

I'm going to look and see where my stoneware is made. I'm afraid to look.

herc.

Just for giggles, visit the US pavilion at EPCOT, where you will find about 80% of the items manufactured in China. :(

My daughter was on a huge buy American kick and went in the US shop at EPCOT to buy something and had a heck of time finding something. :confused3

I remember being in London and looking for a "British toy" to bring to my nephew. Everything that caught my eye was made in China!

As for purses, last summer we visited a Coach outlet and hit it at the right time because they were having their summer clearance sale. I bought my girls each a bag because they were so deeply discounted.

I look for Italian bags at TJ Maxx, Philene's basement, Century 21, etc. I don't ever want to pay full price for them, but my daughters and I have a pretty decent collection from the discount places.

Funny, DH and I were just walking by the Coach store at the mall yesterday. DH said "Someday I'd like to buy you a Coach bag". I don't care for purses, I barely use my $15 bag from Kohl's as it is. I usually just take the wallet and put it in my pocket, the purse only goes along if I need my makeup and cell phone. A Coach bag would be a waste on me. But DH likes to buy me nice things so I didn't discourage him from the thought.

Now, I think I'll tell him I'm really not interested. I'm not having him drop that kind of money on something that cost Coach less than $50 to manufacture.
