Coach: where are the handbags made?

Someone asked me if my Coach bag was made in China, and I didn't know the anwer. Tried doing a search online, but could 't find much.

I only have one bag, which I just bought at an outlet in Destin.

It should tell you on the inside of your bag. There is a stamp/tag that says: "This is a Coach bag. It was handcrafted in ____ ."

All you have to do is look inside at the label...they were made in China the last time I looked.

OF COMPLETELY NATURAL SOFT MILLED COWHIDE. THE

it is all caps in the bag, but I guess in China!

My daughter had to do some research on Chinese sweatshops for a class this year. I believe that Coach bags are made in China. I guess if you go "knockoff shopping" in China, you can find cheap but genuine designer bags that were "spirited away" from the manufacturers, i.e. they are real (but obtained through questionable means.)

Just one reason why I wouldn't buy one. Made in China ultra cheaply in a sweatshop, imported and sold here for about a 150-200% profit.

AHH yes! I have MOSTLY VINTAGE Coach Bags and was wondering WHY? I was not as impressed with them as I used to be! Now I know why!!

I just pulled out one of my good hardy leather vintage bags, and it STATES it was MADE IN THE UNITED STATES!!!

I have 4 of them, and this is the first one for me made in China!
It explains the lack of leather!!!

now I will have to wonder if I will buy anymore!

I recently went shopping for sunglasses. I won't spend big $$ on them, since I lose and scratch them so easily. All Target had were ones made in China. Finally at Costco, I found some made in Japan. I don't know why that doesn't bother me as much as "Made in China".

It probably depends on what your definition of "sweatshop" is. I think sweatshops are generally considered places where the people are locked up at night, work 18 hours a day 7 days a week, are forced to spend most of their "wages" for food at the company store, where children work, etc. Lots of the Chinese factories would not qualify as sweatshops under these definitions...but most of us would not want to work there....still long hours for low wages...mass production, not justifying "designer" prices.

Yup. You don't have to try very hard. At the night markets in the major cities there are tons of vendors trying to sell all sorts of things. Some are fakes, but some are genuine.

Another heads-up on Lenox. Used to be made in the USA? Well, no more! They closed down all the American factories, Lenox now joins the long list of 'American' products actually Made in China.

And btw, did the price drop? Nooooooooooooo...

Kind of like all the "Disney" pins. Ever wonder how some of those Ebay sellers always seem to have so many pins, but only available in huge mixed lots?

Same with other countries. When I was getting ready to go to Italy, I read that most of the components of the Italian leather purses are put together in China, but then they do "just enough" in Italy to be able to legally stamp "made in Italy" on them. In Venice, some shop keepers had signs accusing their neighbors of selling "Murano" glass beads actually made in China. Of course, if you shop in the kind of store where you can watch them blowing their own glass beads, the price is much higher.

That can't be true for "many" companies, maybe a few, but not most. I'm not even sure it's legal, anymore. I've seen labels that say Mariana Islands.

I have about 7 coach bags and they all say made in china...I love them anyway...every toy I got my kids last year in wdw says made in china, not going to stop going to wdw...not every company that gets things from china is a sweatshop...now if I found out my bag came from a sweatshop and people were being abused making them I would buy another brand from now on but I have not heard that yet...

Well I would have thought Coach would be made in a place unlike even the ones you described. I am shocked frankly. I think quality and Made in China is an oxymoron. I could see buying them if they were priced like any other Target purse as the majority of those are made in China. I can't see paying a lot of money for something made in China. Just hearing that takes away the whole designer aspect to it.
