OK - I know I am venting. Can't help it...

Right when I am leaving for lunch today, a coworker mentions "we should put a sign on the copier - it isn't working". First off - her definition of "we" is "anyone EXCEPT me should put a sign on the copier".

I'm on to vent 2...regardless of how many signs may be put on a copier saying it isn't working - it isn't going to fix itself. Maybe the coworker could have called the phone number on the copier to facilitate starting to get the service call initiated.

REALLY - the process isn't that difficult. If the copier isn't working, call the number to get service, then put up a sign that says it isn't working and service has been called.

OK - vent is over!

And as for the copier...may it RIP - it just isn't fixable...(it is 12 years old, one of the first digital's available.) And - now we get to use the nice new one...that had previously been used only by the "bigwigs". :thumbsup2

Does she work in my office too? I'm sure she's the one who jams up the copier and then just walks away hoping the next person to come along will fix it. And we won't even go into the "out of toner" error message! What does that mean? What do we do??? Oh dear... I'll go sit at my desk until someone else takes the toner bottle out of the cupboard RIGHT NEXT TO the copier and inserts it.

Our department is broken up in a few areas and on different floors. I usually have a call a few times a week asking me if I know whats wrong with the printer/copier/fax machine in the other area. And if I say no, I didn't know anything was wrong with it, then I am asked, did anyone put in a fix it ticket? Now, if I didn't know it was broken, how would I know if we have a fix it ticket put in? They could just look up in the online system to check. But no, call me an ask me instead. UGH!

Too bad it's not fixable. The proper response might have been, "Oh, yes, you're right - you should put an out of order sign on it. While you're at it, you should probably put in a service call. No, I can't do it for you. I'm on my way out."

No really - the fact that it isn't fixable is a GOOD thing!:cool1::cool1::cool1:
I was doing the happy dance..That copier was just about pre-historic. :woohoo: It was 12 years old. Parts are just not available.

When I was working, only certain people were allowed to touch the copier with regards to fixing & woe be to anyone else who tried. So mostly people put a note on it saying it wasn't working & then they'd call one of the "certain people".

That office was like that. Hardly any "cross-training" to enable anyone to be able to help. Ticked me off too. When you asked a question, you got the barest minimum answer as if they didn't want you to get any knowledge.

Whenever anyone asked me a question & I gave them an answer, that person would go to someone else with the same question. Geeze louise, that used to really tick me off. If you don't like what I answer don't come to me in the first place!!

I finally quit & when I walked out the door I didn't look back!

Oh, no - I understand THAT aspect of it :teeth: I just meant it was too bad because now you won't be able to 'critique' your co-worker into taking responsibility for, really, simple things like this.

No worries...our office has the "bigwig copier", 2 fax machines, and 3 printers. :rotfl:
