CMs Who Make You Smile

My favorite of all time was Steve, the Butler at HM. We were at Mickey's Christmas party several years ago, and HM is one of the few rides we all do together. So, the four of us go in-Mom, Dad, my 20 yr old DN and myself. On the way through the door, I catch Steve's eye. He is TOTALLY in character..expressionless face, the smooth walk where only his feet move..amazing. Well, Steve was RIGHTBEHINDME when the lights came up in the stretching room-yes I screamed like a little girl. But that wasn't even the best part. When DN and I got out of our Doom Buggy and were heading out behind Mom and Dad-suddenly THERE HE WAS AGAIN!!! He was right behind us all the way to the edge of Frontierland! Same expressionless face, same smooth walk. He was OUTSTANDING. I have searched in vain for Steve every single time I've ridden HM ever since.

He did this to me this past November. I know where the other door is so I always make a point of heading for that part of the room and edge me way to the outer edge of the crowd. When the lights come on, instead of facing the middle of the room, I was facing the door. Steve was right in front of me with just a couple of inches between us (I never heard him!) I was very surprised but instead of screaming (as inclined) I just said "hello" and he said "goodbye" and showed me to the door behind him. It was great!

Last June, right before my husband deployed to Iraq, we went to Disney with his mom and our son. We were staying at GF and had to go over to Shades of Greem to buy our park tickets. The Concierge at GF told us it was a quick 10 minute walk. (NOT) Plus, it was pouring down rain. So, we walked toward the Poly where we asked directions of the valet guys. One of them says, Follow Me, and puts us in a covered golf cart and drives us over to Shades of Green, waits for us to buy our tickets, and then drives us back to Grand Floridian. He saved the day and kept telling us how grateful he was for our service. I still tear up when I think about that kind of selflessness.

My favorite CMs have to be the ToT ones...one woman saw that we were on our honeymoon and made sure that we had the front row after I said that we had ridden the ride 3 times already that day (my DH fell in love with it!)

The other is my DHs fave CM, also on ToT. He was very much in character as a spooky bellhop and giving creepy looks to a girl who was very brave and giving them right back. After we were all in our seats, he instructed as to raise our hands...and wave goodbye. That was one of the first rides my DH had ever been on in DW, and you could just tell that the magic clicked into place for him. He couldnt get over how into their jobs the CMs were.

Love this thread :)

This happened to us last year at D-land in LA. It was our 1st ever trip to Disney (little bro (21), sis (23) and I (27)). We were so pumped to be at Disney that every line we saw we got in... until we ended up in the line up to take pictures with the pixies!!

I think we only figured it out once we got to the front of the line, and we felt sooo ridiculous chickening out. The CM who guides you in was just the funniest and very sweet at not making us feel foolish! We ended up seeing him 'out of character' the next day in the Pirates line up, we chatted for a bit and he was still super nice.

Made our trip :)

Ooohhh, I'm going to post about my favorite CM's!

Krissy! She works Guest Relations and VIP tours at Epcot. She use to work Merchendise, Attractions (Soarin') and was part of the Year of a Million Dreams, Dream Squad. She is amazing and goes above and beyond. I always stalk her when I can!

Travis who is now a Magic Kingdom Coordinator.. he was my trailer at the Land! He is downright one of the most friendly-ess CM's out there!

Amanda.. aka Madandy! She's a fellow Entertainment CM and her skills are AMAZING. I'm so jealous of her natural talent and she always helps her friends with the best pictures ever!

There's tons more but I have to eat! ;)

I love the guy who works at ToT; I think his name is TJ. He has a pencil-thin mustache and looks like a 1920's bellhop. His voice is the perfect mix of cheesy and creepy.

I made the mistake of making fun of him as the doors were closing. I did my best TJ voice and said something like "Please step all the way back to the rear of the elevator..." or something mundane like that. TJ overheard me, pulled the doors open, looked straight at me and said "Do you need me to check your safety belt sir?" The entire elevator burst into laughter.

There was also a young lady at the Great Movie Ride who really went out of her way for Mrs. Homie. As we were boarding the ride vehicle, Mrs. Homie wasn't paying attention and somehow her finger got squished in the door. She wasn't hurt-- bruised her ego more than anything else. The poor CM just knew Mrs. Homie was going to tell on her and get her fired; she made such a fuss over Mrs. Homie, giving her a use-anywhere Fastpass, offering her a bandaid, etc. All the while Mrs. Homie kept telling the poor girl that she was fine, that it was her own fault for not paying attention, etc.

I just stumbled across this thread and had the greatest time reading all the posts. Thanks so much for sharing your stories!

Oh this is so great!

One thing I want to put out there... If anyone has a truly AWESOME cast member experience, ask at guest relations or someone who looks important about filling out a guest service fanatic (GSF) card! The CM will get it and know just how much you appreciate it. And I know that among everyone I know, they're like gold. We're all always so jealous.

Just something you can do to give back to those wonderful CMs!

Duuddeee hi! I think you were my Safari driver last week! I was breaking and took a quick ride!

Reading through this makes me a little upset that I didn't get names, but I think I have an excuse.

Long story short: when we went down in August, our plane was supposed to land around midnight. We figured that DD7 and DD2almost3 would sleep on the plane, be in their strollers the whole time when not on the plane, and the whole thing would be a breeze in the airport. We figured we'd be in our beds at WL around 1:30, which was fine, as we had planned on eating a late breakfast that day at the Main St. Bakery and had an ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern for 2:45 or so.

As they say, the best laid plans of mice and men...

The plane landed at 1:30. We kmew that we'd have to get our own luggage; what we DIDN'T know was that the luggage claim for JetBlue was the absolute furthest point from the ME buses as you can get in the airport. I believe that the ME buses are on the first floor of the B terminal, all the way down at the end, and we were at the same place in the A terminal, with no way to get across besides walking down to the central part, going up to the third floor and walking.

Did I mention the kids weren't asleep? We got our bags around 2:15 AM, and started the long walk. When we got off of the elevator on the 3rd floor, a CM saw us and asked if we were going to ME; we said yes. She said that she'd have them hold the bus for us. Meanwhile, DD2 was refusing to ride in her stroller, and insisted on walking, so the fastest we could go was her exhausted pace.

We got down the elevator in the A terminal, and the CM was there. Without any prompting, she PICKED UP DD2 and just started walking with us at a normal pace. As the girl can be shy at times, we were amazed that we heard no complaining. I was pushing her stroller with two bags on it. When we got to the ME counter so we could check in, I stopped and told them to go to the bus, as I had the tickets. Another CM came over and started pushing the stroller with the bags. I checked us in, and ended up catching up with them outside. The bus left after another family came on 5 minutes later. I hate to think how long we would've been at the airport if it wasn't for that CM.

We ended up getting to WL at 4. We did get up around 10, and had our Main St. Bakery breakfast, so it all ended well!

Well, this was after lunch, when everyone else was on the Barnstormer. I guess staying up until 3:00 AM will make her fall asleep no matter how excited she is!

I've already relayed the story of the CM who picked out my son for Woody's Hoedown so I won't retell it but she was superb and really enhanced our day (even when a pushy guest tried to spoil it). I'm just sorry I never caught her name, I must recheck the video and see if I can spot her nametag.

Isn't that the picture of every kid at mid-afternoon on the first and last day of a Disney trip?:lmao:

These stories are so heartwarming! Especially to me since I'll be a cast member in 80 days (college program). This is exactly why I want to be one too. I want to make sure all the guests I meet have an amazing vacation, even if they don't remember who I am. :)

One year me and my family were caught in the rain at TTC, so we found a little covered area next to the bathrooms to hide in. This apparently was right next to a cast door, so we saw a lot of CMs coming and going. One older gentlemen actually stopped, sat down, and chatted with us like we were family. He was a bus driver, and he was waiting for his wife, the monorail pilot. He told us all kinds of stories about why he loved it at Disney, and couldn't imagine a better place to work. So friendly.

Last trip we took my 5 year old cousin, Laura. Well on the last day she had gotten sick (if you know what I mean) and just felt horrible with the sun and crowds. My mom was just going to take her back to the resort to clean up and rest. Well apparently on their way out my mom spotted the baby care center, and decided to go in there to check it out before leaving. Well a CM there took the situation in and told my mom and Laura to have a seat, rest, and enjoy the A/C while she took care of it all.

Well anyway, the CM came back with an adorable/comfy Tinkerbelle outfit (free of charge!) for my cousin and talked with her until she was feeling better again. Obviously my mom was still going to take her back to the resort to rest, but Laura insisted that she was better than ever. She really had so fun that day and said she felt like a princess in her Tink outfit, aww.

That CM saved the day liked it was no big deal, and I just wish I knew her name to give her a GSF card!

Last summer, my family decided to visit DW in early August. We had room for one more person, so we invited my college roommate along. I'd been to Disney quite a few times, but she had never been.

On our first night there, we went to MK during the extra magic hours and we decided to check out the Haunted Mansion. I knew what to expect, but my roommate was terrified no matter how much I insisted that it wasn't scary at all. I climbed into the doom buggy first, and she practically sprinted into it, slid in as far as possible, squished me against the side, and covered her eyes with her hands. One of the CMs saw, and after he adjusted the safety bar, he slammed his hands onto the buggy, stared at my roommate with an expressionless face, and moved backward with us until he was blocked by the wall. I was laughing my head off the entire time and kept trying to get her to open her eyes, kind of hoping she'd see the CM and freak out. She never did though, and had no idea what happened until I told her afterwards.

We both got into the CP for Fall 2010! I can't wait!

These stories are so great!! I can not wait to go in May!! Thank you for all the wonderful stories. They made me smile, laugh and cry.

During our spring trip last year my daughter was getting her picture taken by a Photopass Photographer. He wanted me to get in the picture with her. I do not like being photographed. He was rather insistent, so I made a deal with him.. I would pose if he would. He held up his end of the bargain, and I got him to sign our autograph book as well. We told the story to two of the Kim Possible CMs, and not to be out done they posed for us as well. Ninja spy poses.. it was awesome.

In Oct. of last year my mom and DD wanted to go to the Hall of Presidents. I had no desire to go, so I went and scouted out a spot for us for the parade. I was hot and cranky, and thus my tolerance for the kids sitting in front of me fighting over pop corn and other snacks was quite limited, and my crank factor was rising by the minute. Well walking down the street was a CM with a broom and a dust pan, saying "Have a Magical Day" to people that passed. Any one that walked by with a birthday he'd stop and try and get as many people as possible to sing Happy Birthday to them, or Happy Anniversary to those celebrating anniversaries. He was a one man show! He put a smile on my cranky face, and turned my mood around.

We've had some hilarious bus drivers, and our last trip to HDDR in Oct. our waiter was a complete comedian!

I dont have his name but he was a bus driver when i went to take my sister (was in the 08 FA CP QSFB at EPCOT) a car. i think it was september-october and i had stayed in the MK until late since they were having the extra magic hours. It doesnt sound like much but I ended up being the only one on the bus and we just talked and he told me about working at WDW, by FAR the best bus driver i have had anywhere. He was a big reason i signed up for and got accepted for the Fall 2010 WDW CP even though i got in custodial i hope i enjoy it halfway as much as he does/did.

oh, and bump :cool1:

My DD(4) was getting done up at BBB last November and was talking to her FGIT about how Captain Hook was her favorite and she had made a special page for him to sign. (I had not researched which characters were out to sign- bad mommy).

There was another girl who worked at BBB who overheard her and knew that we would probably not see Captain Hook our for signing. She came over and asked me for the page.

She returned a few minutes later with it signed. She gave it to DD and expalined to her that Captain Hook would not be out today because he was hiding from Peter Pan but she knew where he was hiding so she went to Tinkerbell, asked for some Pixie Dust and flew to Neverland to have my DD's page signed. She said Hook told her he might be brave enough to come our for the Castle Show.

My DD's mouth about hit the floor! She was SO excited and still tells people about it. I almost started crying!!! It's CMs like that that really make Disney magical and make us go back over and over:worship:.
