CM's - What things bother you most?

This is a question for the CM's - what things bother you the most - things that us customers do or anything else?

We just got back, and there was one incident I noticed. A man had his son in a stroller and was trying to bring it into the Galaxy Theatre during MVMCP. The CM told him he couldn't bring it in. He had been moving fast, head down, and not paying attention. He quickly backed up and brought it to the right place. He was obviously tired and frustrated - didn't say anything - and the CM handled it great, but I saw her roll her eyes.

I started thinking, there must be a lot of things like that the drive CM's nuts - and I can see it from both sides. On the customer side, I understand the feeling of wanting to do as much as possible in as little time as possible - and how that always ends in frustration. On the CM side it's probably like "get a grip". Any good stories?

I have a friend who is a seasonal CM- he's a character wrangler. He said it sometimes gets on his nerves that a lot of guests have a sense of entitlement- like this is MY vacation and it better be perfect, who cares about anyone else.

I think if I worked in the parks the people would drive me crazy and I'd get sick of WDW.

My friend says nope, he still LOVES WDW and hasn't lost any of the magic.

On the KTTK tour our guide Rae said the most asked question at WDW is "What time is the 3 o clock parade?"- now that would drive me crazy!

I've also witnessed other stuff at WDW that would drive me nuts: My bf and I were in line for Misson Space and this family was irate that they couldn't use their fastpass, they were screaming at the poor CM. WHY couldn't they use their fastpass? Their fastpasses were for TEST TRACK not Mission Space. :rolleyes2

Do the Disney Store CM's count (even though we are technically owned by The Children's Place now). Anyway, in case we do count, the thing that kinda bothers us is that some people (definitely not most) try to take advantage of the high degree of customer service that Disney offers. Actually, I suppose that most retail personnel deal with this on a regular basis. For instance, a woman came in today to return a shirt that she had bought over a year ago. The shirt had been worn so many times that the fabric was thinning and there were a couple of stains that didn't fully come out in the wash. She claimed that her daughter had worn it once and that she had washed it once and that the present condition of the shirt was the result. She was absolutely appauled that we wouldn't give her her money back. I think that it is terriffic that Disney goes the extra mile in customer service, that is one reason that we like Disney so much. However, the company would bankrupt if they gave everyone their way about everything.

My sister is a CM. She gets frustrated when guests yell at her for rules that she must follow. They are given certain rules. They can't break them just because a guest doesn't like them. For instance, you must have a signature on your credit card or be willing to show other id. They cannot accept an American Express that doesn't have a signature regardless of other id. She doesn't make the shipping rules or compute the costs. The CMs at her shop get yelled at on a regular basis over these things. It isn't anything they can control.

Guests who have NO CLUE to what package or ticket options they have on their "Key to the World" cards.

If you hold up a resort "Key to the World" card to me, and ask what is on it, I'll likely say that it has "Blue coloring, and a picture of the castle" or something along those lines. Without actually scanning the ticket at a ticketing or turnstile window, there is absolutely no way to tell what is on there, besides the physical features of the ticket, such as the person's name, and disney's pictures.

When I question guests about what tickets they purchased when they arrived, they almost always have absolutely no clue, even if it says on the backside of the tickets. "Does this work here?" - I don't know! Did you purchase that option? 9 out of 10 times, they don't know.

Know what you have on your cards! :)

When theres both a rope and a plant wall up intended to keep day guests out of an area, and they insist on barging through it and then demanding to know why I'm there stopping them from going through. If theres a rope, a plant wall, or both, its there for a reason.

When I was a CM I could say "please move all the way to the end of the row" in English, Spanish and Portuguese (which is what the Brazilian tour groups speak). :teeth:

I got really annoyed when people stopped in the middle of their row when we had a full theater show.

Jabber Jaw, THANK YOU so much for that website! I am not a CM but I hopped over there hoping to make myself the best guest I can be at WDW (yea, I know that sounds corny, but the way I figure, the easier I make a CM's job, the happier they are which means the happier MY family will be on vacation!!). Anyway, it just reinforced in my how absolutely wonderful CMs are!! I expected nothing but complaining and moaning on that board and I did find some of that, however, the majority of it was valid. But in addition, there were so many wonderful stories being shared by the CMs about wonderful guests and stories about how CMs continue to FEEL the magic despite some truly rude, ignorant guests.....I've never pitched a fit, yelled or screamed or complained that I have certain 'vacation rights' while at WDW, but I just realized that I have never went out of my way to show my appreciation for those CMs that truly make the trip as memorable as it can be. My next trip will include some specials moments in return for the CMs!!

Disney Store cm here,
I am constantly asked by guests if I can tell them how many days they still have on their park passes. I tell them the only way they can find out is to go in person to WDW to find out.
Then I am told, no, so-and-so/alien/cm/God told me I could do it via the store/ phone/ hobbit hole/you name it.

Yes I am joking some here, but people like to argue with you when they don't like the answer.... it gets old.

I do WDW ticketing, and there are certain questions we ask to verify who's tickets they are before releasing information on them. The guests get really pissed off when I do that more times than not. Then a good percentage of the time, it's not that person's ticket. "These are uncle bob's tickets that he gave us." - Well, Walt Disney World Tickets are non-transferable, so the only person who can use those tickets on any, and all days is Uncle Bob. I can only release this ticket's useage information to Uncle Bob.

How about the restroom question?? I felt so guilty for asking a CM in front of Splash Mountain where the closest restroom was (it was an 2yo-- gotta go right now-- so I didn't have time to look on the map), but then I realized that is what the lady in front of me had just asked him. I thought "I wonder how many times during the day he has to answer that question???!!!"

Cheers: :cool1:

yikes! i just read that website. Its horrible that people act that badly to the cm's and actually hit them! I never realized people acted like that while in Disneyworld, you're on vacation, how could you go there to fight with someone? I must live in a Bubble!

I did a Disney CP and am a current Disney Store CM. In Disney, the things that bothered me the most were: getting yelled at for things beyond my control and (the main one) people running under the ropes during the parades. I mean, hello?!? The ropes are here for a very good reason. Other then those, not much bothered me. I didn't mind the questions like "where's the bathroom?" and "when's the 3:00 parade?".

Guests that try to tell me how to do my job.

I was doing a parade control shift once, and a lady asked (well, more like "told") me to move because I was blocking her view. Umm ... no. There IS a reason that I'm standing, and there is a reason that I'm standing in this particular spot.

Guests who ignore safety warnings (Yes, there IS a reason I keep telling people to sit down while on safari, and it's not just because I like to say "Sit Down" over and over)

Getting yelled at for literally 10 minutes because it is raining and being told that disney only makes it rain in order to sell ponchos.
By that time I just smiled, apologized that it was raining, assured the guest that disney does not cause the rain and explained exactly what happens meteorologically when it rains.

And to think that they told me I'd never use that one meteorology class I took

I will say agree that the most asked question is What time is the 3 oclock parade. I always smile and explain that it really depends where they will be. If you are by splash mountain then it starts at 3. If you're by Casey's you wont see it until about 3:15 :)

Good for you! What a delightful answer! You weren't rude to her, and you gave her some scientific knowledge!

When I go to WDW next, maybe I should complain to a CM that Disney makes it hot out just so I will buy lots of DoleWhips and bottles of water!

It's a conspiracy! I knew it! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I would have to say getting yelled at for enforcing the rules... By far my favorite, the Florida State Safety Board has set a height restriction for a ride based on the safety restraint system being utilized. The height is there so that your child does not get thrown out of the ride and, I don't know KILLED... so please yell at me because your little munchkin has been waiting his whole life to ride and I "the mean evil one" am dead set on ruining your entire vacation because I won't let him....

On that same note, the train at MK... I love getting yelled at because we allow you take your stroller on the train but it has to be folded (by the way it is the only "attraction" in the park that allows this, all others make you leave it outside)... I feel like saying...Yes, you do have to fold it and take it up the stairs with you, no your stroller is NOT a wheelchair (your child is a blessing not a disability) and I am sorry he is sleeping but if you want to ride it has to be folded. It is not like the train takes you somewhere you can't get to otherwise, if you want him to continue sleeping please walk to your destination, don't yell at me...

Wow, Sorry, I think I just went on a tangent... ;)
