CMs Refusing to Trade Pins

anyone hear walt turing over in his grave about "policy's?

No, not at all. In fact, he had very clear ideas of what should be done to make the theme parks meet his standards. That included quite strict policies on behavior, appearance, etc.

so he knew well in advance before his demise that there would be pins to trade?

Seriously? You can't make the connection between the two?

It's silly for either of you to claim insight into how Walt would feel about pin-trading rules.

Although, I always get a kick out of how often Disboards posters play the "Walt Woulda" card, as if they know exactly what Walt Woulda Done... and it always just so happens to agree with whatever point the poster is trying to make.

Without this rule, this is the only pin you would see on CM lanyards.

I talked to Walt today and he said he is ok with the pin trading but NOT ok with line cutting. Not ok at all.

As a pin trading fanatic, I'm happy to see that this policy is being enforced. I've encountered many CM that have duplicate pins on their lanyards, and it takes some of the fun out of it, if there is a reduction in variety.

I also wish they would more heavily police all the scrapper pins that end up on lanyards. If I see that a CM has a fake pin on their lanyard I will usually point it out to them and attempt to educate them on how to better spot fakes, but I realize I'm fighting an uphill battle.

I myself wouldn't mind being better educated on how to find a fake/scrapper.
Those fakes are getting more difficult to spot all the time and it drives me crazy.
I wish I could go up to a CM and ask which of my pins are scrappers but many of the CMs I run into are not at all educated on the pins.

I've posted this (oftentimes unpopular) viewpoint before, and will do so again. If the pin has an official Disney stamp on the back, I don't see the issue in trading it. Disney has done absolutely nothing to cut back on the scrapper trade, and quite honestly, it can be difficult (impossible?) to actually detect a fake.

Why? More than once, I've compared pins - hanging on a cart on the same rack - and noted subtle differences in color and such. Older fakes were much more obvious, but nowadays, I challenge the normal person to show me a fake with a high chance of certaintly. Seeing as how most scrappers are simply cast from the original WDW molds (instead of the molds being destroyed), I have serious doubts.

To me, if you're collecting limited edition pins for the resale value, then sure, I see the issue. Of course, if you don't keep the card that the pin is sold on (and really, the receipt to prove authenticity), then I would question the full monetary value of said pins.

In my family, we trade for the sorts of pins that we like - typically a character or characters, or some sort of theme. Is it cool to find an old pin, an out of print pin, a limited edition? Sure. But if you're worried about your financial investment being ruined by scrappers, I venture that you are pin trading for the wrong reasons.

except the CM's could just not wear the duplicates and turn them in at the end or beginning of a shift for different ones. it's not like it would be difficult to have a system for cm's to restock their pins. no duplicates should be a disney internal policy but not one that is imposed upon the guests and potentially take away from the joy of pin trading for those who are into it. particularly the children.

ok so now the cm has to stop doing there job every 1/2 hour or so when things are busy to go and get rid of all the duplicates

just so a few people who dont like rules arent inconvenienced

how about this simple solution

disney cms just stop trading pins
scrapper issues are solved duplicate issues are solved and no ones feelings get hurt

wow and here I thought that pin trading was just a little fun side thing for the kids to do. I guess I should be happy that the only pin-related drama I have to deal with is when the little one trades a pin to a CM when her sister just tried to trade for it and was refused.

That and when the older one traded the wicked cool Hades pin. That sucked.

Heh... the Disboards are absolutely wonderful... but they can keep pace with sibling rivalry any time! :)

Our vacations exist within the parameters of Disney standard operating policies and procedures. I keep security on speed dial and I am quick to call. If I see a shirt untucked I immediately head to guest services and demand that CM removed.

Okay I havent read the whole thread but came across this reply. Your kidding right? Sometimes sarcasm is hard to read over the net and sadly I believe there are some people who would do this

I'll bet you if Walt Disney were alive he would not be to pleased with the attitudes of some of the cm's who can't say may I help you or thank you regardless of how their day is going.....:confused3

If they didn't say, "No duplicates," we'd have lanyards covered with nothing but those stupid Figment mood pins, etc. It's a good rule.

Teach the kid that there are rules they have to follow. Teach the kid that they can't always get what they want the second they want it. If the kid learns that not everyone is going to bend over backwards to bring them joy because they want joy and they want it NOW, they'll be better off in the long run. Happier, too.

:thumbsup2 This, I don't understand at what point in society we start letting out kids wants and whims rule the world. :sad2:

When parents are afraid to discipline their children(I"m not talking spanking either) because they are more concerned about being their friend instead of being a parent.

I bet if he were alive he'd be REALLY old!!!!

honestly, you all are making this wayyyy to complicated.

how about instead of putting on the duplicate thus having to stop every half hour to remove it, just don't put it on to begin with... not that complicated.

besides, the cm has to stop to trade...that is more frequent than the times there are dup's.
