I just returned from an amazing trip to California with ABD. The trip was booked approximately 18 months prior to departure - you know, when the exchange rate was much more palatable.
Before departure we (me and my sidekick/best bud) decided we weren't going to let the exchange ruin our trip. If we saw something we wanted - buy it. If there was an experience we wanted to enjoy -put up the money for it, etc. I must say, easier said than done. After exchange, exchange fees and state taxes we were buying things alomost one and a half times.
I also kept getting asked if I'm an annual pass holder for discount purposes - not at the moment.
Do you have a Disney visa? That will save you money - nope, I'm Canadian.
In 2016 I was planning 2 trips to the World. April and October. Now, I'm only planning for October. I just can't pay that much money. I realize none of this is the fault of Disney, it is what it is. BUT with so many advantages being given to our friends across the pond I keep hoping beyond hope that Disney will at some point throw us folks north of the border some kind of deal. In speaking with a lovely family from London on our ABD tour I was stunned by the deals they get from Disney - and they can stack them! Yes, we get to take advantage of "Free Dining" but I think we all know it's not exactly free. And it's really not a big advantage to my small family consisting of just myself and my DD.
I realize I'm preaching to the choir - most of us on this particular board are feeling a major sting and many of us are reducing or cancelling our trips to the US completely.
My only reason for posting is to vent to people who "get it". Thanks for listening (reading).
Maybe a Disney executive or two will notice a decrease in the amount of Canadian guests they have in their parks in the foreseeable future and throw us a bone? Here's hoping.
