cm said I cannot change my stay

There is actually another thread active right now about the exact same topic (http://disboards.com/threads/has-anyone-else-been-told-this.3403073/), as I explained in my post on that thread, this is likely due to a minimum length of stay restriction, this is common in the hotel industry, not just Disney, what appears to have happened is that Disney has just recently jumped on board with the rest of the industry, my guess would be due to excessive amount of changes and cancellations that were resulting in lost occupancy and profits over shoulder dates.

Room only reservations, and even packages without discounts don't have a minimum length of stay.

That's correct. Ours is a room only reservation with absolutely no minimum night requirement.

I did debate this during my call, but because I do not have flights, etc I did not force the issue. I did not want to give the CM a hard time either because she seemed new and unaware off this new requirement.

Funny, I specially recall a reservation or two ago that the CM encouraged me to pad our nights just in case. They better hurry and start making it known that it is not as easy as they make it out to be. I stopped booking packages long ago because I liked the flexibility of a RO.

Thanks. I hope somebody posts to let us know if they were actually able to delete days without losing whatever discount they happen to have.

We had a RO reservation using a UOC (what used to be called a PIN code) in a Deluxe room at the WL from May 1-10. We decided to leave May 9th due to my DH's work schedule, but I hadn't bothered to change it as I knew we could do it any time. I read these threads last night and panicked, I called and dropped the last night to make it may 1-9 without any problem. The CM jsut changed it and gave me my new total. My brother booked the same nights in a CL room at the WL (May 1-10) using the 30% off RO spring discount. Because of my SIL and scheduling he decided to stay may 5-9 instead of the 1-10, but again hadn't cancelled the pre and post nights because he knew if had never been an issue before. i called him and told him what i had been reading, he called last night and was able to change it to the 5-9 no problem. However, in his case, the CM put him on hold for 7 minutes and talked to someone before she was able to do it. She told him it was because his offer code had expired, but now I suspect she didn't know why she was having problems and just made a guess to tell him. So we were able to make changes, but this is going to drastically change how we book bounce backs or reservations in the distant future. My DH doesn't always know his work schedule months in advance, so I book Friday - Sunday (9 nights) and then drop either the first or the last night based in if he can take the Monday after vacation off or if he gets the first Friday off but then cannot take the Monday after. i guess I'll have to just book Sat-Sat now and lose a night from my vacation. Or book 2 one night reservations and a 7 night reservation in the same category, and hope we don't have to change rooms, I guess.

^^^ I wonder if that was because the dates you were "changing to" (really just reducing) were currently still available. I was not able to drop even one day off of my reservation, booked at FL Res at a Moderate, because the "new" dates (really, again, just reducing!!) were not "available". It's a situation, for sure! :/

I would have thought I was successful if the same view was still available. But river view was no longer available and they rebooked us with pool view for the reduced number of nights.

I didn't check, but that was in my differential for why i was able to drop a night with no problem.

i just checked on-line, and my entire week is not available at the WL in a deluxe room, but the night I dropped and the weekend it was in is showing as available at rack rate.

Pretty much same here. My current view/room was not available, but the Pirate Water View was. After a lengthy chat with DH (and painful...won't lie, tears MAY have been involved!) I think I have talked myself into modifying my room to a September stay. We normally come in September again, anyway, but I'm super sad with our schedule conflicts and this new policy that I cannot make this May trip work out. It is what it is.

My solace in talking to Disney CS earlier tonight was learning that Disney at least is not changing their policy on discounts. If I book a September stay now at rack rate (since discounts aren't out yet), the CS did assure me that a future discount could be applied if it turned up available for the dates I chose. (It should be, I hope).

Maybe I'm missing some thing here.
How can the room not be available when you already have it?

If you try and drop a few standard view days but they say only water view is available, and you say ok then now your old ressie dates become available so they should be available from the start.

Unavailable can't be the real issue or reason

Could this change have to do with all the people booking fake reservations for FP purposes?

This could have something to do with FP. I have read of many who start their vacation a few days early off site and them move onsite when friends or family arrive. Or also to get a few days head start on booking FP. I know OP was deleting the end of her vacation, however cannot say you can drop at the end not at the beginning.

I guess that depends on what your definition of "unavailable" is. ;)

Totally agree though. I tried to have my TA rebook the dates we had just released for the river view room but they apparently weren't back in the system yet. Then she tried again later by the system was down. So I did what I was supposed to do and gave up.

All they have really accomplished is get me to seriously consider staying offsite for the first time ever. Since it's "room only" I have until 5 days out to decide.

My BB, purchased on 4/19/15 $800.10
Orbitz price right now is $793.92
Both ASSp preferred. Got Orbitz code from Mousesavers.

If Disney doesn't allow me to take some days off BB I will probably cancel this trip and wait for Downtown Disney and Animal Kingdom to be finished. Maybe go to Universal Studios instead because I will have to spend $100s on tickets anyway because I can't buy 10 day no expiration anymore. If they have the Mardi Gras Parades in April, then it's definite.

I feel like I'm cheating on Disney. I already stepped out on them for grand opening of Cabana Bay. Cabana Bay Resort must have their lazy river opened by now.

If they're still doing bounceback offers, I hope they have updated the verbiage on all the promotional pieces they leave in the rooms. Somehow I doubt they have.

I have to think this would really affect their response rate on that offer.

They could easily solve some of the problem by not allowing modifications if you're within 60 days of arrival. Once you're within those 60 days, the rate you booked would have to be available.

While many people, including myself, book within 60 days, it wouldn't effect those people who booked bouncebacks or simply took advantage of a discount as soon as it became available.

As for minimum length of stay requirements - I doubt that's the case. I suspect they had a lot of people booking 10 night stays and then cutting off 3 nights at the beginning after they secured their fastpasses.

The rule is way to strict and is pretty much outrageous to spring it on people like this.
