I know the perks that are offered to cast member (basically not in depth). I was wondering if managers get more perks? I vaguely remember hearing something about managers getting into all the parks for free not just ones in the areas they work in.

All castmembers can get into all the parks for free. The water parks run special deals occasionally at a cast member price.
We also get discounts at some neighboring restaurants (10-20% is all )

gold stripped badges get more perks than salaried badges.

As a yellow or red badge, you get 20% off merchandise your first three years, then you get 35% off. Blue badge gets 35% off automatically.
Red/yellow gets 12 maingates, and 4 comps per year. Blue i think gets more, gold striped get unlimited.
Gold stripe badge might be able to get into the water parks free anytime, but i'm not sure.

Gold stripes are the big wigs that make too much money. And there's only a handful of them.
blue badges are managers and any one salaried. A lot of people that work in the offices are salaried, but not a manager.
Yellow is hourly cast member, full or part time.
red is an hourly seasonal cast member.

DH is salaried, not a manager though. 35% off merchandise (but it is limited to certain items-tech stuff and books is usually 10%), Silver pass that gets all 4 of our family members into the parks (water parks excluded), because there are 4 members in our family he receives 4 comp tickets twice a year, resort room discount. There are better discounts given at WDW then DL (IMO). We aren't in/or anywhere near FL or CA so the park passes/ room rates have only been used once. Wish we were closer and could use them more...:worship:

Jennilynn, if I'm not being too bold, what does DH do that is salaried and not near a parK?

Oh.... and how can I get that gig? :goodvibes

Maybe they are the "big wigs" because they work really hard, do a great job, and get paid what they are worth.:confused3

Wow. :sad2:

Did you consider that companies are able to attract and retain highly talented employees primarily by offering competitive compensation? Individuals who are sought after are going to be able to negotiate higher salaries and benefits because of their education, expertise, experience, etc.

And I know a Disney "big wig" and trust me, he doesn't make nearly what a comparable position for a major company located somewhere like Chicago would make.

Of course consider the poster...

Oh, it's fine...a lot of people only think of castmembers as being an employee of Disney. They forget there are also those people who work for ABC and in our case, ESPN. ESPN has locations in a few places, but the 'big' offices are in Bristol, Conn. and Seattle, WA (which is where DH is). DH is a Senior Engineer...in other words, he works on the websites. :surfweb:

I think there is a call center in TX, too. But don't quote me on that one.

I believe there is also an arm of Disney IT and/or a website group for Disney (not ESPN) in Seattle, too.

And managers do NOT make too much money. :upsidedow

There is...some are on the same floor as DH. Disney uses 3 (I think) floors in the building DH is in. It's pretty cool when you get off the elevators on these floors because the lobby is decorated to match the floor. On DH's it is sport motif, then there is one with tv shows (Grey's Anatomy, Desp HW, etc), and then there is one with Donald, MM, and Chip & Dale and some of the other 'cartoon' classic characters.

ETA-On the tv floor, there is also an Emmy on display. Not in the elevator lobby, but back in the reception area Kind of cool...

Oh and the conference rooms all have matching names. There is a Mickey Conference Room on one floor, and on DH's they have Satchel, as in Satchel Page. There are others, but those are the two that come to mind.

Imagine that! :) I agree Green Tea... one of my pet peeves is the vilification of those who earn a high salary. Grr.

And I didn't thnk of the ESPN, ABC people getting "cast member" perks as well, but that's cool!!

Wow, that is cool. I didn't know they displayed awards off lot. Theyshould do that more often. And our conference rooms are just the numbers of the rooms here, so it is much nicer there! (Except ours is coincidentally named 4077, so we call it the Mash Room.)

i believe in general, higher ups get paid way too much. And it doesn't trickle down to the little guy that makes it work.

I've seen it on undercover boss. Big CEOs living in wealthy homes with expensive cars and suits. And then they go out to where the real work is done and see how much they have to bust thier butts off to get a halfway decent salary.

My aunt once told me about a company that paid all it's employees the same at starting. No matter the title. But the raises were based on performance.

I generally have a different opinion on a lot of things. And i do realize that most managers at disney do not make a lot, at least in florida. But i've seen more than my fair share spend their time on their blackberries chatting away about what's happening here and there, rather than worrying about what goes on in their area.

My cousin worked for WDW back in the early 90's. She was a big wig, though I can't remember what she did (I was 12, I would have been in awe of her if she was serving hot dogs out of the cart if it got me into WDW free). I know that she had met Eisner quite a few times at meetings. She was able to get us into the parks completely free for the entire stay and we got 1/2 off purchases. It was the best vacation and one that wouldn't have happened without her help. We were so poor that year, but with her help and staying for free with relatives, it ended up being a very cheap vacation.

Unfortunately, she quit shortly after that and moved to Colorado to be with her boyfriend, now husband. I was bummed.

Well, it is true that the higher ups don't have as much physical labor as those under them, but UB isn't a really good rule of thumb. Try going into a new job yourself and being 100% dead-on up to speed after an hour or so of training, regardless of the job requirements. Chances are, anyone isn't going to be terrific with so little lead time into the job. Heck, when I started at Disneyland, it took me two days to get the cash register down. (We had the old-fashioned kind with the push buttons.)

The "real" work is done at all levels. Every job is available to everyone. The "big wigs" likely have graduate degrees in the applicable field and started off somewhere far short of "big wig." They worked hard, got promoted and their careers took off.

The blackberries that executives carry around are far less about catching up than about being caught anywhere, pretty much anytime. Their positions are not like a teenager in a fast food restaurant where they leave work behind when they clock out. They might get called in their 'big CEO house' during dinner, their kid's birthday party, or the middle of the night. Chances are a kid making minimum wage at the local fast food court isn't called at home to make corporate decisions affecting millions of dollars or hundreds of employees.

The workers who don't resent management are typically the ones who move into it.....

My husband is a mid level manager for a big bank. Which mean he has a great sounding title but not really as great as it sounds. I rue the day he got that blackberry. It goes everywhere, even on vacation. Plus the stupid laptop. That went to disney on one trip and couldn't connect to the internet at the resort so he ended up having to go find a branch where he could get emergency work done. Those blackberrys are awful. The stupid thing goes off all hours of the night when it gets new emails. One of these days I'm gonna flush it.

Amen!
