what's the discount for CMs buying into DVC? can they only extend it to family members or can they also use it for friends?

Our son was a CM during the College Program last winter. We did an add on contract at SSR, the discount at that time was 20%, but was due to change to 15% I think. The discount was only available to direct family members. A work around is if someone is going to buy, they can also add a close family member to the CM to the contract. My sister inlaw did that and just added my wife to her deed. There are resale restrictions on points you buy via the CM discount.

darn, i was hoping my friend who is doing it would be able to help me out. i guess we'll have to make one of the younger siblings do the program for us (haha).

where in LI are you? i'm in nassau, woohoo!

What is the resale restriction for cast members? I went on the tour as my daughter is doing the cp and they said there were no restrictions but you know how sales people are...I would not buy just to resell but if I was to I want to have that option.

I am also in Nassau and just wanted to say hello.:)

We were told with our cast member discount, pionts purchased in May 09, that we could not resell at a profit and could not rent out the points. Not that we plan to do either

Not true, I just added on with the CM discount, there's no restrictions at all. We can sell subject to ROFR like all other DVC contracts. Renting for profit is prohibited for all DVC contracts by DVC, that is why you were told you cannot rent. You can transfer them, you can allow friends, family, business associates, etc to use it, but you cannot let DVC know you accepted money for the points.

P.S. I'm in Nassau too.....Woodmere :)

Members can rent out their reservations for any profit they can get. Now, CMs, that may be a different story.

However, commercial rentals are not permitted. And in the past DVC indicated that 20 rentals per year would be considered commercial renting.

Umm, I think you "cannot let them know" because (unless things have changed very recently) CMs are not permitted to rent their points.

"Renting for profit" is not the same as commercial renting - the latter is what is prohibited.

As a practical matter, how could they enforce this? Just like the commercial renting by regular members, they really can't.
