CM cleans table with floor mop...

Disgusting. Not much surprise me anymore and glad I carry and use the Purell wipes even on the tables and sometimes the chairs. What does surprise is, and this applies everywhere, people still don't realize there are cameras everywhere?

Now here is the funny part.... not condoning the behavior, but - IF WDW uses a fairly powerful disinfectant EVEN ON THE FLOORS, and the SAME powerful disinfectant ON THE TABLES?
Other than our emotions - does it make any difference? :). If the disinfectant works? She was using a disinfected mop :).

And what if they use those same mops in the bathrooms?

Adding more bacteria to a table even if it has disinfectant on it doesn't seem to make much sense. It would be like taking a Clorox wipe, wiping your toilet seat, then wiping your bathroom counter.

Well... there's less germs on the toilet seat so...

Yes, I believe so. When was the last time the mop head was even changed? Where was the mop head used prior to dining room? Bathroom floor? Urinal? Meat prep room in kitchen? Was disinfectant even used by the worker? Sometimes you need to use hot water and bleach in addition to detergent. This is exactly how E. coli is spread. How many toddler spill Cheerios on a table during breakfast and stick it in their mouth? A toddler's young system can't put up much of a fight against E Coli.

I was in a DVC resort room that they hadn't changed the air filters in the HVAC system I would estimate close to a year. Plus, there was mold in the return air plenum. The Manager on Duty and the maintenance guy kept trying to down play it. I asked if either had ever heard of Legionaires Disease? After I explained that it was named after people at a Legionnaires Convention who died from pneumonia type illness contracted from a hotel hadn't cleaned and changed filters in the HVAC system in the mid 70's. They stopped trying to downplay it.........simple things can have serious repercussions.

I'm actually going to give Disney the benefit of the doubt here. You have tens of thousands of employees and thousands of other third party contractors. There's bound to be some amazing Cast and Contractors. There's also a pretty high probability that there's some workers with an attitude, lack of care, or who are lacking "any kind of common sense"

This was not a training issue. This is a 3rd party worker being ridiculous.

I'm sure Disney is working on a way to make this a separate ticket or add-on event. I'm sure a special dessert party could be developed and the highlight would be Disney helps build up your bacterial defenses.

Is it a mop or a Swiffer? I was envisioning a little more fantasmic style mop.
I'm sure they get wiped down dozens of times per day. Doesn't make that particular time ok, but likely no less sanitary than your average McDonalds.

Yep, you can't train someone to have common sense.

I'm hesitant to peek into a kitchen at Disney now. Afraid I'll see Remy and his rat friends cooking my meal.

I'm not saying what she did was right, but people will be quick to jump on how "unsanitary" this is, but I don't put my food directly on the table when I'm eating. I prefer it on a tray or plate or napkin or something.

I mean if you eat at a picnic table, it's probably a lot dirtier than that mop.

A tray is not a guarantee of cleanliness either. You have tons of people cycling through those parks and resorts daily. At any given moment, you are going to touch spot that might not be as clean as you think.
Best you can do is take basic precautions and keep yourself healthy. I'm not a big purell type of person. I understand why folks disinfect everything, but also feel you might be spoiling your immune system. Some times you need to build a tolerance.

Not at all convinced that those tables are any dirtier than my floor at home and I've picked food up off that. :D

So 5 second rule applies to all Disney tables then? I'm good with that.
I'd wager the worst parts of the property are probably better than have the places I encounter when I was in school.

I'm more concerned with the Disney response, than what the worker did. Minimum wage employees are going to do something dumb. Matter of, "if not when." Which is why there needs to be systems in place to minimize the number of incidents. According to the story, the guest had their hotel stay comped by the Resort Manager. But the investigation only occurred, and action taken after the 2nd email. Then this wasn't simply a dumb employee. It's a dumb employee, a Resort Manager who failed to investigate, and the person who read the first email and didn't do anything about it.

Then the solution is to prevent the employee from working at Disney? Okay, but how does that prevent future incidents from happening? I don't think the third-party vendor can say, "Worker A got fired for not following proper sanitation and safety instructions." That would be a privacy violation, right? So do the other employees of this vendor even know that they shouldn't do what Worker A did or even that this incident happened? The story doesn't even have a cursory statement, that Disney has instructed their third party vendor "to instruct employees to follow proper sanitation and safety procedures."

Chipotle has been rung through the ringer, for what also was a set of isolated incidences. But this is, "eh." Stuff that shouldn't happen, I know happens more than people would really like. But I'd hope that when something was brought to management attention, it would be used as an opportunity to review procedures, emphasize safety, etc. Otherwise isolated incidences can easily become not isolated.

And what if they use those same mops in the bathrooms?
(Laughing) - it's entirely possible that they DO :).

Relating a personal experience.... good 'ol Cosmic Rays :). Those tables get turned over just about every 15 minutes.... and the CMs DO wipe them down. Same rag, every table :).

I guess my point was this.... WDW does the best it can, in a VERY crowded environment full of THOUSANDS of people. We applaud them....

.... then we wipe down our OWN tables before eating :). Hands & faces too (different disinfected wipe :)). Not going into details as to how my wife deals with the Ladies Restroom - "trust but verify" :).

Accidents do happen and people mess up. I thought the worst part of the story was that Disney tried to shrug it off by saying it was a third-party vendor, not a Disney CM.
