Club Sunterra at Cypress Point II vs. Westgate Town Center

Hi. I would greatly appreciate any help with deciding where to stay for our upcoming Disney trip.

My wife's parents have offered us to use their timeshare exchange (through Interval International) for our trip, which we plan to make from January 26 to February 2, 2008. Because their timeshare is a Westgate resort in Orlando, we're limited in our choices for an exchange.

Right now, we could exchange for Club Sunterra at the Cypress Pointe Resort II for that week. I had been shooting for the Westgate Town Center because it is closer to Disney and is listed as a "five-star resort." But it's currently not available for the days we want.

My question is:

Should I hold out for the Westgate Town Center, or is the Cypress Pointe Resort II a good choice?

Also, I don't understand the "Club Sunterra" name. Can anyone explain this?

Hi,
We have never stayed in Phase II, but have been to Phase I twice and loved it!!! Lot's of space, very clean, minutes to DTD and maybe 20 min at the most to MK!!

I would not think it would be a bad chooice!!

"five star" doesn't often mean as much as you'd like it to. I don't know about WTC, but I've heard only good things about CPGV. It's not a "brand name", but it comes very highly recommended.

In any event, you may want to book something before late november. I don't think the regional Orlando block is lifted during flexchange, but the quality restrictions are, and the units might get snapped up by others without sufficient trade power to see those resorts right now.

Is Westgate Town Center really closer to Disney than Cypress Pointe? I thought Cypress Pointe was the closest. We've stayed there and enjoyed it. I've not heard the greatest things about Westgate......

Westgate Towne Center is out with Westgate Vacation Villas on 192. It is a good drive to get to Disney property and more to get to any of the attractions. Cypress Pointe is 1 mile from Downtown Disney - 2.5 from magic Kingdom. It is much closer and you don't have to fight the 192 nightmare traffic. We own at both resorts and would always choose Cypress over Westgate both for the resort quality and location.

I was going by the travel times in the Unofficial Guide to WDW, which list the Westgate Town Center as being closer to nearly each park. Do you really think traffic on 192 would be bad in late January/early February?

Also, can someone explain the "late November block" referenced in the earlier message? I had planned to book soon, but want to make sure we don't miss something important by waiting.

We just returned from Cypress Pointe Grande Villas. The location was great and so was the pool. Unfortunately, I think we had a unit (Whale Cay 2 bedroom) that desperately needed an update. Bathroom wallpaper was peeling, VCR not operating and our white tennis socks were black on the bottom after walking on the carpeting. In general, we really liked being close to Disney and as I said I'm sure some units are in better shape. We were really surprised because we didn't think this section was that old.

There are many Westgate resorts in Orlando. Are you sure you weren't looking at Westgate Vacation Villas?

Edited: Nevermind; WTC and WVV are listed on Westgate's site as both being at the same place on Old Lake Wilson. That is a very nice location; slightly closer to the Sherbeth entrance than is Windsor Hills. But, CPGV is also quite close. If it is farther, it's not by much.

You could try to wait to see what happens in flexchange, but I don't believe the regional block is lifted during flexchange, so if you believe CPGV is acceptable to you, I'd take it.
