I don't think a child as young as 3 would get much out of it honestly.
That being said, if your kids are older (mine are 5 and 12) then I would recommend it.
Our whole family LOVED it. Everyone is different

We got it last night at the Red box, it was ok... not as good as the book, which was sweet and cute. this is more run of the mill plot, outcast becomes hero, etc.
