Clothes shopping for a 12 year old girl

My 11 and 13 year olds get most of their clothes from Old Navy, Forever 21, Amercrombie kids, TJ Maxx and Marshalls. They are very fashion forward, and very picky about what they wear. Dd13 is very petite, so it's hard for her to find things sometimes (will not wear Justice). Shoes are very hard, since she wears a 3 1/2! I love Zappos.

My daughter will be 12 this month and she has the opposite problem. Her torso grows with age, but her legs are slower growing. Her feet haven't grown in a year. She gets frustrated with that, because she likes the women's sports shoes and her feet are too small.

We avoid the v necks at Aero. She doesn't like the feel of the cami under the v neck shirts. She's always pulling on the shirts, so we stay with crew neck t shirts at Aero.

She still wears a size 10 slim from Justice. Next year in 7th grade she's asking where she can buy jeans/pants for petites. I was thinking Gap?

I can't stand some of the trendy stuff out for teens. Blech!

Good luck! 5-8th grades tend to be those growth spurt years. Varies per kid.

Try aero for jeans. My dd14 is just about 5' and is wearing their 000 regular length but up until about a month ago she was in their 000 short. I'd say the 000 is about equivalent to a kids size 12. So if you have a tiny tween/ teen it's a great place.

I'll do that. Thanks! I haven't looked at their pants in awhile. I'll have DD try on some.

Rue 21, just there today, they had racks of $7 jeans (all sizes and in style) and racks of $5 shirts and sweatpants. They also had items that were already on sale and marked down an additional 40-50% off, I found a really cute corset top (black lace over pink satin, laces up the back) for $5, and DD17 got 2 dresses, 1 for her Graduation in a month that was $9.99 (marked down from $29.99) and another one that was just super cute for $8.49 (marked down from $24.99). Not bad at all! :)
We also shop at Forever 21, Wet Seal, Styles and Charlotte Russe, CR had dresses for $15........:)

I had a hard time with DD12 shirts being too low cut. Either that or too thin. She wears women's sizes. Camis in all colors work for us.

If they're tall enough, I love the LOFT outlet, if you have one near you! Gap and Old Navy are great too especially if you want some more modest clothing that is still cute.

I wore American eagle jeans all through high school and I still wear them now. They're my favorite and they have many styles and fits so you could find some that aren't too low cut. I also like Aero. Both places have sales pretty often too.

My DD12 is tall (slightly taller than I am) and curvy. She is definitely in ladies' sizes. We shop at Old Navy, Target, Gap, J.Crew, and Loft. She pretty much lives in jeans of jean shorts plus tees or cute tops. She also likes to borrow from my closet. She loves Gap Boyfriend fit jeans and Always Skinny jeans.

With swimsuit season coming up, she wants a tankini with shorts. That's perfectly fine with me. ;)

My daughter is 13 and just finishing up grade 8 and clothes are a challenge for her to as she is the smallest in her grade (about 5 feet and 65 lbs). For jeans she wears aeropostale 000 regular (as the short ones shrink and are then to short), LA Idol or Miss Me jeans in size 14 also fit her and are cheaper then the ladies size 23" waist jeans. Glad summer is coming and it will be shorts/capris so wont have to worry about leg length and she can go with a size 10/12.

She wont shop at Justice anymore, but finds shirts at aero, Abercrombie, forever 21 and various stores. She also wears camis and stays away from v kneck .

My 12 yo DD is tall/very thin. Finding those Aeropostale 000 size jeans this year was a life saver. At age 11 She had outgrown the length of a girls sz 12, but somehow at girls 14, the pants waists are so much wider. I learned that leaping to Juniors (even at age 11) fit her more appropriately than boxy, wider girls XL clothes.

My 14 yo is petite, but curvy. The best jean we have found for her is the "Artist Boot Cut" at American eagle. Fits her in all the right places and not too low cut.

Ditto what everyone says about Camis under shirts. Currently both girls are in a phase where they live in T-shirts... like the souvinier ones for being in the school play, etc... Just simply Adult Small tees, advertising the play, the dance recital, the class tee, etc... They wear those over and over again. Modest and easy. They have cuter stuff in their closet, but I swear I am washing the same tee shirts every week! :rotfl2:

When we're trying to "stock up", we'll hit their clearance rack every few days to see what is there. Sometimes, it takes several trips. But, the prices are great :thumbsup2

I posted a thread not long ago about my 13yo. My issue was her not wanting baby clothes - lol But she's growing like a weed too and the sizes are all over the place. She has a pair of 8.5 kids Justice shorts that fit great. Another Justice pair size 10 that are a bit snug. A pair of Size 12 Old Navy long shorts that are tight as hell @@ I just bought some Kohls XS Junior Shorts (Came as size 0) that are huge but the pair of yoga shorts form there same size fit great.

We're over an hour from the stores so I shop online mostly and it's very annoying not to be able to get consistent sizing.

DD12 is short and curvy. It can be a challenge. She wears a cami every day, but even the standard Kohls or Aero camis are really too low neck for her. I got her one Wonder Cami at Down East Basics, and she would like lots more, as they come up a couple inches higher on the chest.

Otherwise, for tops, she likes Gordmans, Kohls, Disney, Aero, and more.

For jeans, our best bets are Miss Me 26x29 (I've bought them used on eBay); Aero curvy 2 short; and Maurice's 1/2 X-Short. Skinny jeans also are easier to make them work for length since they will bunch up at the ankle rather than drag under the heels. My mom also knows how to hem jeans keeping the original hem (can google for this).

The Maurice's jeans are good because they are more of a womans cut than juniors and not low rise, but they still look cool enough and come in a variety of lengths. The X-Short is 28 inches and that is really what she needs.
