I am probably one of the few people on here cruising with a toddler :lmao: and who also uses cloth diapers :rotfl2:..so I don't know if I'll get any responses to this.

We cloth diaper at home. My toddler has sensitive skin and we limit disposables to some nights (drinking lots of water) and my ILs (who refuse to use them).

Our cruise is just 3 nights, and i keep going back and forth between using them (and washing one time) and just buying disposables.

So...any input would be appreciated. And if you don't cloth diaper...humourous responses will also be appreciated :lmao:.

Thanks!

Hello! We used to cloth diaper (all mine are out of them now). In fact, we just gave our cloth diapers to my sister for her new babe!

We took an extra suitcase with us when we travelled some places - like my mom's or sister's. They were comfortable with our washing them at their houses. If it was a short trip, we'd just cart them home with us. Do you have enough diapers to last three days? If so, I'd say go for it! Just use the suitcase that you carried on with the clean ones for the dirty ones and wash when you get home. I don't think I'd wash on board. But that's just my own comfort level.

Have fun on your cruise!!!

I used cloth diapers for my oldest daughter...25 years ago. :teeth: When I had my 2nd daughter 3 years later, I started using disposables "just for a few weeks" out of convenience. You guessed it - that child never wore cloth diapers!

If your son's skin can tolerate disposables for 3 days, I would use them. It will be less work for you and a LOT less work for anyone else who watches him.

I cloth diaper my 9 month old and I am definately planning on using disposables on my upcoming cruise. I don't want to spend my vacation dealing with washing the diapers every 2-3 days, stuffing them and then doing it all over again. If he can handle it, leave them home and enjoy yourself withtout having to deal with the dipes.

I used cloth diapers on my kids for a total of 2 1/2 years. When we traveled I used disposables. Not sure that I would want to cart even three days worth of soiled cloth diapers with us off a ship. Will you be flying to Tennessee? My vote would go with using the disposables on the ship even though I used the cloth diapers myself.

We will be driving to Florida from TN...and will have 2 hotel stays (coming/going) thrown in also.

I've thought about trying the Seventh Generation, or even the New Huggies Naturals for the trip. Maybe I ought to try them now to see how he does with them.

And yes, I do think I deserve a diaper break for the cruise. The tree hugger in me though is having a hard time with it :lmao: .

Thanks for all the input...

Okay, please spare the rest of your fellow passengers and use disposables. I applaud your greenness but do you really think it is appropriate to throw diapers soiled with urine and feces in the public wash machines? I want to gag just thinking about it. And if your plan is to wash them in your room sink- that also seems pretty unsanitary (but only for you so greatly preferred by me) to wash that where you will wash your face and brush your teeth.

Oh, and double "ewwww!!" on passing clorth diapers down from one child to the next. :scared1:

I used cloth diapers with all 6 of my children and used them on lots of trips, and did not use them on some trips. For a short cruise I would feel fairly comfortable using them and just bundling them up and washing them later. I would not wash them in the laundry room because it always was a long process for my washings....soak....rinse....wash....rinse.... and rinse again :goodvibes . But truthfully, on a cruise where you were in tight quaters most of the time, and just for the ease of a lighter laundry load coming home, I would use disposables.

I am not a parent but I am a tree hugger and know lots of parents and kids. If your son tolerates the chlorine etc free ones, then I would definitely do disposables on your vacation! Save yourself the hassle and mother nature will forgive you for this one small indiscretion.

We cloth diapered my son but I would not do it on a trip. You deserve a break from the laundry and washing them on the ship would not be appropriate but I doesn't sound to me like you were considering that. I also would not want to cart them home, too much hassle and stinky! a 3 night cruise is not that much of a damage to the planet ;)

Give yourselves a break..and I would try the 7th generation diapers.

ps - yay for cloth diapering!

Why? I mean, we pass clothes down from one child to the next and certainly, there were explosions in the clothes! How are diapers so different? They rinse easily and then wash clean.

Just curious! :)

If I washed them, it wouldn't be on the ship (don't wanna spend the $$$). My brother lives about 1 hr away from the port, and we were gonna stop there on our way back home.

But think about this...how many kids/adults get the Norovirus and wash their laundry with much worse stuff than just a little pee (no poop...you dump it in the toilet) on it.

Anyways...thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. We are going to do a trial run of some 7th generation dipes this weekend to see how he does with them. Yay! a couple of laundry breaks for me!

Haha, I am a bit of a tree hugger as well, so I can totally understand where you are coming from.

Have you seen Huggies Pure and Natural Diapers? They are supposedly made from natural, organic materials. I was going to buy some for one of my friend's baby shower, but could not find them locally.

They might be an option!

I cloth diapered my son, though used disposables when it was more convenient. I did take him in cloth on a few trips to family, and didn't have any hardships, though it was only for a weekend. I would think disposables would be more convenient on the cruise, but also you could use the room freed up by the diapers being gone for souveneers! BTW, loved cloth diapering and even the process of washing! DS was too fat (he was 24 lbs at 4 months and wearing size 5 disposabes when I started cloth diapering) for the nice velcro diapers that I could buy (though I am sure one of the WAHM's would special make some if I had asked), so if I had another, he/she would start off in them!

Do you live in Fairview? If so, I would swear this is my sister. :) :) Except her little ones are not Zach or Sam. They are Mia and Evie.

I vote for a mom's week off from diaper duty. It has been awhile since I dealt with diapers, but it still is a fond (NOT) memory of mine.

Urine is sterile anyway! I think I would try the sposies and see what happens. It would be nice to have a break from diapers. Though, I'd still consider dumping the poop (if you can) out of the diaper before tossing it in the genie (don't forget to request one) since they can still get stinkerific!

Thank you for bringing that up. unless you are sick-not just runny nose sick. Urine is sterile. i too would give myself a break & if it makes you feel bad plant a tree or bush when you get home in honor of your trip.

Just my opinion without reading everyone's. I believe in and support all users of cloth diapers. I actually alert some of my patients about the opportunity to use them on babies; but having cruised- I would say try some of the organic or natural disposable ones they now have on the market. Since your baby is a toddler, if may have been some time since you used the disposable and they would now sit okay with his skin. They have greatly improved even over the last year. I think it would be a bit more of an hassle in such tight space. The reason the SRH empty the diaper genies sooooo often is because the smell is far worse on such a small ship than they even are in a hotel room. It is such a short amount of time. Not to mention that is a lot of hauling. The reason they even came up with the new infant product supply program on the ship is because it involves so much hauling of stuff when the luggage restrictions have gotton down to 1-2 bags. It is a lot mor ework and you would be almost needing to go back to the room to change him each time. At least if you are just tossing a diaper, it gives you more changing options. Let's say you needed to do it while you are out and about at a meal or deck 9/10. Easy to find a place to pop in and change than the need to change and find a place for a soil diaper. So try a few disposables ones before the cruise and if tolerated, go this route.;)
