Closing Time!

Oh no! Marcelo is doing ours, too. We just passed ROFR yesterday and I kept hearing that Cammy from Mason only took a day or two so I have been watching my e-mails all day. Did they come by e-mail?
Yes email via docusign. We are fully executed as of yesterday and now waiting on the seller and then I will wire the funds.

Questions from a first-timer:
Just got our closing docs from Mason, and there's a big bolded page about calling to confirm the wiring instructions for the final payment. Do I call the phone number for Cammy (the agent) or Jordan (the escrow officer) about this?

The important part about checking wiring instructions is NEVER call a number that came WITH any wiring instructions. To give an example - some hacker sees your emails and realizes you're buying a DVC (or anything with a wire), they send you an email that appears to be EXACTLY like one that comes from your Escrow company, but changes the wire numbers to their own account - and tell you to call "Escrow" at 407-555-1212 (their fake phone number printing with the instructions) where someone answers the phone with your Escrow name and assures you that wire info is correct.

So - to avoid this - use a number from another source you TRUST to call your ESCROW OFFICER direct, and confirm the wiring instructions. Escrow is not surprised you are doing this - it is what any prudent person wiring funds would do.

One advantage to sending your Deposit by wire (instead of using a credit card) is you've typically been able to "test" the wiring instructions (which you should still have checked) with a smaller amount of money first ;)

Apparently an error (typo) in the email address?? This could have/should have been resolved after my first 2 inquiries, had they bothered to call the seller at that point.
I'm sorry - that is super frustrating. Even though I always follow up both with Escrow and the Agent asking them every week if they have confirmed receipt of the documents with the Seller, and if the Seller has a timeframe for returning them - they always write me back saying they are on it, with no details. - but like you, at least I'm trying. A good Agent and a good Escrow Officer WILL call or email a Seller - if they have time.

The Agent is the one who might be more likely to follow up, since they typically are the ones who have actually spoken to the Seller before - and are commission based.

The email we got after Mason title received our deposit actually instructs you to use an independently verified phone number before wiring money. It's nice that they put that on there for people who may not know.

How did you receive your new membership ID and stuff? Email?
You'll receive two emails, one with an Authentication code and the second (probably a couple hours later) with your Membership Number. You'll sign in to disneyvacationclub.com and set up your account from there. A few days later your points will turn up (or you can call Membership Services in a couple days to see if they can load them for you yet).

Now just waiting for DVC to add the new contract to my existing membership. Any tips or tricks to speed this up? Hoping to book something in April I see available!! :p

My second contract showed up on my DVC account less than a week after the deed was recorded. I never got an email so check your account in a few days. I then had points loaded via chat. Good luck!!

I don't understand the timeline. Do you mean an e-mail you sent after Mason received the initial deposit on the property before ROFR? I didn't get an e-mail, just the receipt that they received it. Or is this an e-mail when they send the closing docs? I am a little nervous about the process of wiring because I have never done it before.

I got an email saying they received my initial deposit, after we passed ROFR they sent additional instructions with the Closing Packet on how to wire the remaining balance!

Oh good! And it explains about the phone call process with the additional instructions that came with the closing packet?

Ours is still in ROFR. We got an email from Mason saying they got our deposit and they attached a receipt. Then there was just some general info at the bottom of the email. No actual instructions yet. I assume we'll get those later with closing documents. I've never done a wire transfer before either.

I'm guessing it's just something they stick on all emails. I'll copy and paste it below...

VERY IMPORTANT: Our Wiring Instructions WILL NOT CHANGE during the course of your transaction. Confirm ALL Wiring Instructions with a Phone Call to Mason Title using an INDEPENDENTLY VERIFIED Phone Number.

WARNING - FRAUDULENT FUNDING INSTRUCTIONS Email hacking and fraud are on the rise to fraudulently misdirect funds. Please call your escrow officer immediately using contact information found from an independent source, such as the sales contract or internet, to verify any funding instructions received. We are not responsible for any wires sent by you to an incorrect bank account.

Maybe people wire money over for the deposit? We just did ours via credit card.

I take the wire fraud very seriously and call to verify just like they say. It's good practical advice because if you wire to the wrong place 99 times out of 100 that money is gone.

Update #3
I emailed Membership Administration (not Services) and explained we had points that were expiring soon. They said accounts were created in the order that deeds were received and estimated 3-4 weeks. However, I had my activation emails 4 days from closing (on a Friday afternoon). Then I chatted with Member Services online and had points (Saturday morning). It looks like this is an add-on for you but that worked for us as new members. HTH and good luck snagging a reservation!! We made an April trip work last minute but are resort hopping in studios for 4 nights to use our points up before they expire. At least we'll get to see a lot of the resorts! lol

Anyone else having a long time to close after all documents and money in? This has been the most drawn out process I have had with closing with Mason. I passed ROFR on 2/16, did receive closing documents that day and returned them. Seller did not return for awhile. I contacted Cammie and on Monday2/27 was told seller documents were on the way and would close the next week. I had asked to be notified when seller documents received and would wire the money. On Tuesday 3/7 contacted Cammie again if they had received seller documents and was told I could wire the money and would close 3/14. This was a little abnormal as my experience has been with Mason that they close as soon as all documents and money received. Received notice on 3/7 that evening that money received. Contact again today since had not received closing notification and was told closing changed to 3/17. No explanation given.
I guess they are just being over whelmed with all the passings of ROFR now. The kind of goes along with E2M2 experience with Mason and Cammie now.

So this is fun. I called Mason this morning to confirm the wiring info from my closing docs was all correct. And everything she told me on the phone matched. And then I went into my Chase account to set up the wire, and when I put in the numbers I have it brings up/auto-fills a different address (different city) for the bank. Soooooo, yeah. I've emailed them about this.

And they've already emailed me back to say that it's fine, as long as the account numbers match?

Please, someone else tell me that this has happened.
