Closest supermarket to BWV?

Last year while staying at BCV we went to the Super Walmart on 535 and it couldn't have been more than 10 minutes away.
It's actually EASY to get to from BWV. Just left on BV drive, right on Victory Way, left on Oceola Parkway, exit Poinciana and go back under the toll road and it's right there. It's actually a little further than some but with few red lights and generally even less traffic, it's well worth it to me. The Toll is 50¢ each way if I recall. It's 5.1 miles compared to the 4.8 for the Publix a Xentury. By comparison, the WD is 4.7 miles with a LOT more lights and traffic.

However, you can avoid those lights and traffic by taking the Northern route. Undoubtedly a couple extra miles but I enjoy traveling the quieter roads of WDW.

I've been able to get better prices on wine and beer at WD or the ABC store that is right next to it than at the Xentury Publix.

The produce seems better and with more variety at Publix. We don't buy meat on vacation but for those who do use the stove, the Publix seems cleaner in general. The WD was so nice for several years, then went downhill. It seems somewhat cleaner to me again but still for meat I'd probably head to Publix.

It's like 10 extra miles or more if I recall correctly.

Hmm, I sure don't think so. I'll try to remember to use the odometer next time. I take Vista to Live Oak to the Northern (and quiet) part of BVD. Then take a right on 535. It's a couple miles from there to the intersection of 535, Palm and Apopka Vineland.

Are you talking about the road past the CR? I've never gone that far North. I can easily see that being 10 miles.

I don't remember paying a toll, but I could be mistaken. I forget how I got there, but I ended up on 536 and then took a right onto 535 and it was a 1/4 mile up on the right. Like you said, it was a very easy drive and as you can tell I'm definitely not an expert when it comes to driving at Disney.

You likely went out 536 and turned right on 535 past the Marriott World Center (like you were leaving OKW), definitely longer but not that bad.

Lets make sure we're on the same page. You're talking World Drive toward MK, through the right lane at the toll booth then Right on Vista Drive to Right on 535 (Winter Garden Vineland). Left on Reedy Creek Drive and the WD is a couple of blocks on the Right. It's almost exactly 10 miles total that direction from BWV, over 10 miles further RT, a little less maybe from BCV. Actually taking Live Oak over to BV is a little further than just going all the way out Vista blvd though last time I went that way it was a little creepy.

Likely a better option to miss some of the lights and traffic and still get to the WD from the Epcot resorts would be to cut over to I-4 either by Osceola or 536 then exit at 535 though you do catch that intersection at the Crossroads that way. From SSR, VWL and OKW though the distances are shifted though I still think that way is reasonable only for VWL (DVC resorts).

On a related note, I wonder if they will close of Sherberth once AKV is fully open. I'd think they'll eventually either have to improve it or close it down as an in/out for WDW.

Hello Everyone. I live in the area and if you are trying to choose between Winn Dixie and Publix, then Publix is the way to go....I promise. I grew up in FL and have never found another grocery store as nice as publix.

You are, however, traveling way out of the area to get to the one by Gaylord palms. This one is much closer:

Publix - Regency Village Shopping Center
This publix is 7min from Disney. You will need to get on state road 536. This is the road that the Marriott World Center is on. If you don't know how to do this, then here is the easiest way...from the Hess gas station by the BoardWalk Resort, make a left onto Buena Vista Drive (towards DTD) You will pass the Fire Station on the left hand side. Keep your eyes open for the ramp on the Right hand side. Its will say I-4/ AIRPORT/ SR-536.
Once on FL-536 continue going straight, baring to the left. Be carful not to get on I-4. You will pass the Marriott on the left and the Nickelodeon Holiday Inn on the right. Continue straight, crossing over SR-535. Turn left on International Drive South for about 2 miles, then make a left onto Vineland ave. Publix is right there.

Dean, those directions above are not correct. Don't use them. You'll be driving in circles.....

Which are those? to WD, I have them correct but may not have portrayed them correctly.

Thanks, everyone! Publix and Winn Dixie each have their own dedicated fans, so I think I might have to make a trip to each (on 2 seperate vacations, of course).

Silly question: does Publix have a customer discount card?

Publix doesn't have a customer card, but Winn Dixie does.

Meredisney,
This is the publix I have been to. It is a nice publix. We stopped in here after going to the disney store. Susan

No, but their prices tend to be cheaper. They have similar discounts but without the restriction of a care. Albertson's no longer has a discount card, at least the one locally doesn't. I'd agree with Publix being better quality overall. I usually prefer meats at Albertson's.

I reread your note. As Poohs Pal pointed out, that is the Publix near I drive across from the Hilton Timeshare. The WD is in Lake Buena Vista West to NW of the Crossroads a couple of blocks.

BTW, doesn't WD own Goodings now?

I thought that those were your directions to publix, thats why I said they weren't right. Now I understand that you were actually talking about Winn Dixie. Sorry for the confusion.

Not a problem but it does give me an excuse to say we'll be staying at that Hilton resort in a 2 BR this fall just relaxing. I hope they keep that gate to the outlets closed or my wife and adult daughter might make me regret it.

They had bought all but three of the Gooding's and converted them to Winn Dixie stores. They also entered into a supply agreement for the remaining Gooding's locations. One of those three has since closed. I haven't heard anything about WD actually purchasing the last two Gooding's.

Yes, that's the route I like for WD or Walgreens. Part of the reason is that we used to always stay on the North end of property. I still like it as it is so peaceful with so little traffic. As we had been talking one way mileages, I thought you were doing the same with "10 miles." I can accept that it may be 5 miles further from BWV than taking BV Drive but so easy and peaceful. It would almost certainly be faster since there are so few lights. And from the MK resorts, OKW and SSR, I would always choose that route.

Going straight through on Vista would be most direct but there is a sign that reads Cast Members only or something to that effect so I've never driven that last little bit of Vista. Very tempting though as you can see your goal ahead.

Have they changed the name of S. Apopka Vineland Rd to Reedy Creek? It may have changed ten years ago for all I know. Google maps shows it as S. Apopka Vineland.

Sherbeth certainly is depressing as you near 192 and see all the shuttered motels.:sad2:

I wonder what has popped up along 429? I've heard there's a Target just N. of Western Way. That area may end up being very convenient for the Epcot resorts and AKV.

What Disney store is everyone refering too? Is it the outlet? I can never find it, which store is it nearest too so I know where to shop in May.

Thanks!

We've been discussing Winn Dixie (WD) which is a grocery store.

I'm sure someone else can help you about the Outlets. We've only been to an outlet mall at WDW once and that was probably 20 years ago. Happy shopping.
