I know Orlando is the closest airport to Port Canaveral, but has anyone flown into Jacksonville, or Ft. Lauderdale? How far a drive is it? I'm trying to price airfare from Philly with all the options. We'll probably leave fri. 3/4/05 and return mon. 3/14 from MCO.

Ft Lauderdale International is about a 3 hour drive.

Jacksonville will take you about the same aprox 2 hours and 45 minutes

If you are looking at going that far Tampa International is 2 hour and 15 minutes to Port Canaveral as well.

(All depending on traffic)

The closest airports to Port Canaveral are Orlando International which is about 45 minutes to the port... Orlando Sanford Airport is about 1 hour and 5 minutes or Daytona International is about an hour to the Port.

You can also consider Melbourne International Airport, Palm Beach International Airport, and Daytona Beach International Airport.

You best bet is usually Orlando International Airport. Orlando has the best ground transportation options. And there's a lot of competition, so fares tend to be reasonable.

Just wanted to add the distances to those...

Melbourne International is about 40 minutes away
Palm Beach International is about 2 hours and 15 minutes
and as Libertybelle posted Daytona International is about an hour

We have done the Tampa to the port drive a few times and have done it in about 2 hours with no traffic.

A better choice to cheapen your air would be to try air out of Baltimore (BWI) to Orlando instead of Philly.

SWA has tons more flights from that airport.....

But is you still want to change your FL end. Try Tampa as an alternative. (Will probably add an hour onto your drive from Orlando to the port.)

Just a thought - having to drive farther increases your chances of getting hung up in a traffic mess because of an accident. Especially from Ft. Lauderdale or West Palm. I-95 down that way is a bear normally.
