I posted about resort room checks yesterday, I have neen a member for well over 10 years, until O called to cancel room service I was never aware of this reasonably new policy.

The post while I had a bit of attitude in it was to inform others like me that don't know the enter your room even if you expressly ask them not to.

Like I said well over 10 years as a member I had no Idea, which also means many others may not realize this either. The point is if you rent or otherwise compensate a person, company or corporation for the use of a room rules come along with the contract.

I know legally a hotel room is treated by the court as a domicile Law Enforcement needs a warrant barring exigent circumstances to enter the room, in most States that I'm aware of landlord tenant agreements also have a clause or at least a 24-hour notice is needed to enter an apartment that's rented, and like I said and the other post don't even get me started about a squatter and how hard it is to get them out even if they committed a felony to break into the house. I signed my contract all over 10 years ago with Disney, and from what I was told this is a relatively new policy within the last couple of years is what I was told.

This was not to bring out armchair lawyers it was the informed people that their room is being entered whether they wanted privacy or not, just because companies corporations or landlords do something does not necessarily make it legal, the government does illegal things all the time and it usually takes a judge to stop the actions.

Apparently GADisneyDad14 decided there should be no more comments on that subject. Sorry about the large bowl type I copied and pasted this username and when I hit paste it changed the font and size.

There's always going to be people that throw comments that are either unnecessary or try to inflame others, my post was to let the uninformed people know that they changed the rules and that does not necessarily mean what they're doing is legal like I said I will pour over the contract and let the lawyer pour over the contract this may apply to people who have signed a contract since they decided to change their policy, but until it's looked at legally, it may not apply as a blanket policy and people just go along with it. Fortunately I am willing and able and already spoke to a family member that is a lawyer that agreed to look at my documentation and see if what they're doing is legal.

GADisneyDad14 apparently has seen posts on this subject before I had not and had no idea this policy existed but he decided to shut it down. I figured if I was well over 10 years a member and had no idea there were any others that had no idea as well.

I did not pay attention or see the other thread - I don't see many of them. Not sure what happened. Not many people stay up to date with all the new rules, enhancements, renovations, etc. etc. Looks like you are a new member to DIS unless you changed your username.....no matter.

I think you must be referring to the daily room checks - which was established after the Vegas shooting. Another reason I hate texting even with family - one cannot see the tone/expression/was meant when typing but again, I did not see the other thread. I will leave it at that and don't want this thread to get closed for you too.

Thank You it wasn't meant to inflame but inform others that may not know you are the second person to mention it started after the Las Vegas shooting. Kind of my point exactly if that's why and when it happened, people companies corporations etc just react to things like the Las Vegas shooting that doesn't necessarily make their actions legal, somebody at a board meeting somewhere must have said oh my God we have to check the rooms everyday in case somebody brings in a nuclear weapon as a knee-jerk reaction and just because they decided it's a good idea still doesn't make it legal, isolated acts of violence have been a part of this country and every other place in the world since man has existed, with the 24-hour news cycle and social media The narrative can be spotted in any way they want, as a retired Law Enforcement officer I can tell you 98-99% of people are nice decent people, Law Enforcement deal with the same people over and over again, yes once in a while someone just snaps but it's usually rare.

Most states have a distinction between "guest" and "tenant" which is what you are missing. DVC does not allow someone to book more than 30 days which I'm guessing is related to that. Also note that law enforcement has different rules than housekeeping on what they can access.

If this was illegal, I'm sure some ambulance chaser would have sued Disney by now. The policy is not new.

Restarting closed topics is against the rules on most message boards. The thread was closed for a reason.

As I just joined I'm still learning how this works and It wasn't meant to restart a closed thread more to respond as to the motivation behind the thread and respond that the moderator closed it because apparently some threads get out of control my intention was not to stir up a controversial subject just let people know that it happens even if you specifically ask them not to enter with out you present as a long time member I never dreamed that Disney would do something like that and I figured if I was unaware others might be also. I don't mind if I am present but unfortunately I still look at things from a cops point of view even though I am retired and I am seriously uncomfortable with a stranger Disney employee or not entering my room without my permission or my being present

You should private message the moderator to discuss this. Resurrecting a close thread isn't permitted and questioning a moderator's motives is best done in private.

For everyone's benefit, a bit more clarity on why the thread in question was closed. While the topic of daily room checks can certainly be new for those that don't follow resort happenings closely or haven't visited in several years, unfortunately the topic has a history of divisiveness and creating arguments around places like the DIS.

Generally speaking...

Posts/threads about room check experiences, questions about how they work, and observations (both positive and negative) from recent trips are certainly welcome and are somewhat frequent around here, either in standalone threads or in the larger resort threads.

Posts/threads questioning the legality of Disney's policy or extreme "what if" scenarios are beyond the scope and spirit of the Disney Resorts Board, which at heart is a family-friendly Disney planning forum. Those types of topics tend to lead to arguments, misinformation, and lose relevance to Disney World trip planning.

Room check and DVC contract related discussion is probably a better topic for the DVC Resorts board section of the DIS (this board slants towards Disney hotel discussion).

Also for the benefit of new DISers, restarting a closed thread is against DISBoard policies and can be subject to infraction points. Further information on DISBoard policies and infractions can be found here: https://www.wdwinfo.com/guidelines.htm

Questions or comments about moderating decisions can be addressed to the Webmasters at admin@wdwinfo.com

Thank you.
