Very interesting. I just saw another non political thread that was purposely lead off course by posters, not the OP, who obviously had an agenda and then the post was closed because it was declared Political. Now I see how this is done. All I have to do to silence anyone from saying something I don't want said or don't like is to bait everyone, drag the conversation where I want it to go and then cry foul. Interesting technique... I didn't see it at first but now its crystal clear. This method of sabotage is duly noted.

Remember the old Beastie Boys song? I'm telling ya'll it's sabotage!

I dont know the thread you speak of, but they keep doing to my threads! Why dont people just bugger off if they dont like the topic? I repeat my thoughts on this: mean people suck. WebmasterKathy (?) says to report it so they can decide if its malicious.

this is done on the dis all the time. agendas are as wide spread as they are perverse.

I see you're from WI - did you see Brett Favre decided not to play for MN?

:rolleyes1

IMO, he needs to STAY RETIRED!! His last year with the Jets was the worst I'd seen him play. He shoulda quit while he was on top rather than waiting until he's gone downhill.

Did this thread go off topic? :confused3 :lmao:

Yes, I've seen this too, with other threads. People want to shut it odwn they turn it political. Then there are those who want political threads back (because they have a debating energy & tendencies,) so they turn what should have remained lighthearted, innocuous threads into roaring debates. :headache:

OP, you have your opinion and I have mine. However, the only opinion that counts is that of the mods and Webmasters -- "It's become apparent that this thread has a political intent and as such will be closed." Regardless of whether you believe it was originally intended that way, or sabotaged, what's done is done. I think past history was also taken into account when the decision was made to close that thread, but I'm just guessing.

Oh please - the mods were right for once. Can't believe it took them 6 pages.

Any time someone makes a statement that someone else disagrees with, that is arguably "political". Politics, essentially, is nothing more than "the process by which groups of people (societies) make decisions (choose between two or more perspectives)". Even an opinion about Le Cellier is arguably political. The rules here essentially prohibit discussions that are (specifically) partisan political, and folks should keep their difference of opinion from veering into that realm. However, by the same token, no one should be expecting an unrebutted soapbox on which to present their personal perspective on an issue, free from someone disagreeing and outlining the parameters and rational for that disagreement.

Interesting, I agree with Bicker.

Any thought could be bent to be political and recently, I've seen it over and over and over again. It is my humble opinion that it is not necessarily the OP's intention to do so. Most of these posts start out in the realm of public news. I don't think we are even allowed to talk about the headlines right now, 6 months ago it was fine but today, here & now, nope, never because it can be construed that the OP has an agenda by thinking something is interesting. People talk about the news because the topics are general current events... what on earth is so insidious about that? I wonder what will happen if I call out and flag anyone I notice is sabotaging a thread? I do not think it's fair in any way shape or form especially since the closing seem to happen in one way more than another.

I think OP's are notified when someone calls for a thread to be closed. I would like to see the OP's publically declare who closed their threads so the rest of us know who is sabotaging things and we can ignore them. It's a new kind of trolling IMO.

I agree LuvOrlando. Let's find out who asked to have that particular thread closed, because it certainly wasn't me. Never have asked that a thread I started be closed, nor have I ever reported anyone else or any thread be closed.

There are some topics that just can't be discussed in a non-"political" fashion. Abortion, guns, taxes and healthcare reform come to mind. Why bother even starting such a thread:confused3?

That list is limited, what about a broader net? Like Bicker said, anything that anyone feels strongly about COULD be made into a mountain couldn't it? ? ANYTHING can be made into a political discussion and it happens as soon as a poster throws the first stone of label calling, and that is exactly what I think this new breed of trolls are doing. I would like to see name calling in the form of political labeling banned because THOSE name callers are the ones who do all the pot stirring IMO

Another thread got closed? What did I miss?:confused3 Some people just can't help it and want to start trouble sometimes.

I did once when a trouble maker started picking on a child. And it still took the mods a while to close it. :sad2:

The thread that was closed was about guns, but wasn't political. The OP asked what people thought about having guns in your home, in light of recent home invasions that turned deadly. Specifically one that occurred in the OP's home state.

Nothing was political, until certain posters came in the thread and said, "watch out, this will turn political", or "be careful, political threads aren't allowed." They added nothing to the discussion, and were the only ones that brought politics into the thread. In all the years I've been on this site, I've never understood why people feel the need to reply to a thread they aren't interested in. Some people need to get a life.

I was surprised that thread lasted as long as it did. As soon as I saw the topic (it was not just about the news stories, the OP actually asked why people don't believe in something), I knew it would be closed soon. Given the way the OP was stated, it was obvious that it was going to be a political thread and I think they knew it. There was some interesting conversation before it was closed, I was actually surprised it stayed fairly polite.

I saw the thread - it wasn't political... but the thread starter (okay I'll say it, DawnCt - I've said before, she could post that the sky is blue and would be accused of ulterior motives.. she has a thick skin, it seems, though) was accused of posting it to have a political thread here. It didn't turn political, except that one poster said ...bad things will happen to good people, and that's hard for super conservatives to understand... shortly thereafter it was closed.

Imagine that.
