We were at All Star Sports in June 2008 and they had very few smoking areas. We are going next week to Pop Century and I wonder how the smoling areas are there. It looks like there are more by looking at the map. Thanks

i stayed at Sports in October for 9 nights. I know you are going to be at Pop but wanted to add that there were places at All Star Sports to smoke when i was there recently.

The front desk cm's told me since there are not many dsa, i could smoke in the parking lot as long as i was not on the sidewalk near the building.

I was also told I could smoke on the outer sidewalks that are near the street on the other side of the parking lots.

Btw, many people smoked in Touchdown 10 on the other side of the football field area. I'm referring to the area where the back leg of rooms face bushes, trees, sidewalk paths. they stood outside their rooms on the sidewalk and the cm's did not say anything except to not leave the butts on the grounds.

I don't know if this is how it is all the time, but it was like this for when i stayed there in October.

At *** we had a preferred room and smoking area was quite a ways away-outside lobby in back by laundry. We were across the complex on the other side of the pool. The area was always neat and clean during our wee stay. I never looked for any other smoking areas there.

In my search for my honeymoon I Found that the Hilton @ WDW still offers smoking rooms (and Extra Magical Hours). A non-smoking room is not an option for us (Well the bride to be at least!).
Can anyone confirm smoking rooms are still available at this location? I'm unsure if this falls under "Disney" Resorts, but it is located on the WDW hotels page.
Thanks everyone for your help!

Thank you lisalonglash !!I think we are requesting the quiet pool area!! I agree you meet lots of nice people at the DSAs! It's almost like a Daily Dis Meet!!

I could only find one smoking area at AKL on 1/1/09, near the pool bar. The one near the entrance seemed to be gone, unless it was moved next to the valet station instead of the side on the walkway from the bus area. I did not look by the valet area and did not ask anyone. I was only there for dinner so I was checking where I could smoke after dinner.

I would have to think very hard about staying at AKL again, even tho I really enjoy vacationing there. One smoking area is simply not enough IMHO for such a large resort. I do understand tho that the two locations now missing must have caused many unhappy letters/emails/calls. I want to purchase an additional DVC and I'm considering AKV, but will wait to see how the smoking areas there are placed.

I also noticed DSAs missing (based on the maps on the DIS and my previous experience) at the POLY near the arcade and near the pool bar seemed to be gone, and the BWI, could not find one on the boardwalk.

Of course no matter how they are placed at first, no guarantee they will remain that way. Unless I've miscounted, in looking at the Future World portion of the Epcot map, it appears 7 out of 12 DSAs, or 58%, were eliminated.

Maybe this will be the last reduction. Any less would be ridiculous.

What is the latest at CBR? Are the DSAs roughly the same as early 2008? Do they still have some smoking tables over at OPR near the Banana Cabana bar?

Part of our stay was at CBR, I didn't notice a smoking area by Banana Cabana bar as I didn't look for it, but there were enough DSA's to suit me. And I think my husband would have been happy with the area's I used to have a cigar.

I am not referring to a DSA per se. As of my last visit, in February 2008, some of the tables in the open area next to Banana Cabana had ashtrays and were OK for smoking. Was just hoping that's still the case. If I sit over there and have a drink and a few cigs, it makes not being able to smoke in the room tolerable for me. ;)

Oh, well I hope someone can answer, but I can tell you I didn't see ONE area with tables and individual ashtrays this vist that I was familiar with as of June 08. I know where many of those areas were as we visit all the resorts for meals. I hope they were temporarily missing. Tho there was a DSA not far from the CBR bar that looks at the marina.

Just got back from French Quarter and figured I would update. You can basically smoke at the whole bar area, tables and umbrellas. The bartender was passing out the small plastic cups w/ a little water in them :worship: . I spent a couple afternoons sitting under an umbrella w/ frozen drinks and that small plastic cup.

I felt very comfortable and the bartenders were very accomodating.

I was there this past December.(miss it so much) The tables near the Banana Cabana are still there. There is a difference however..The tables used to have these little can type ashtrays on the poles holding up the umbrellas, but they are gone now and in their place are big pots(like flower pots) with gravel in them.

I stayed at the CR in December and we had met a guy down at the smoking section of the garden wing. He was also getting over the virus. Anyway, he told us that he had been stuck in the room the past 2 days and that he ha gotten "caught" smoking. He told us that he was smoking outside of the sliding glass door (patio?) and a little bit later there was a knock at the door. I assume it was housekeeping or security-I don't remember which he said - and they told him that they knew he was smoking and they had some type of handheld (I believe) machine that they had used to detect the smoke. He was fined $250. After paying all the money for the trip, getting sick on top of it and being confined to the room, along with the fine, he said he will never return to Disney. He seemed to think that they were passing his room and somehow detected the smoke but I tend more to think that someone smelled it from the patio and reported it. I did take a wing room for easier access to smoking sections. It does strike me though that the 2 ds areas at the wing that I used were right at entrances where everyone has to use. It does make me uncomfortable also even though this is the desigated area. :cheer2:

I have started a post in the "Disney Rumors" section about the relaxation of the smoking ban in the hotels. I'm sorry i cannot link it yet directly here per the forum rules.

I did not want to have the discussion on this thread as this thread is not dedicated to the discussion of the smoking policy.

I agree that another Guest tattled on him being FAR more likely than a CM passing by and happening to see him smoking. He would have seen the CM too, no?

But while I sort of understand his anger, in all fairness none of it can be considered Disney's fault:
The man and his family chose to pay the (high) cost of that resort for whatever reason;
While, yes, there is a virus going around, it is not found ONLY at Walt Disney World and so he did not necessarily contract it there - he could as easily blame the airline, or a classmate of his child, or any number of other sources; and
The contract the Guest signs at the Front Desk for one's room indicates - on the back, along with a number of other restrictions/exclusions/etc in the same location - that smoking is not allowed in the resort rooms or on balconies or patios, and that Guests violating this policy can be fined $250 to $500.

Ok, I am leaving next week for the AKL. I have read the recent posts about possibly only having one smoking area by the pools. The shortage of smoking areas was not a problem when I had reserved this resort as I really wanted to stay there. Any recent update about the one in the front would be greatly appreciated.

In December (could have changed by now) there was still smoking in front of AKL, but not right by the front entrance. It was down towards the bus stops, off to the right.

Which DSA at the Poly are you saying is now missing? Is it the one in the covered area where the tables are or is it the one along the sidewalk?
