(CLOSED) The Smoking DSA's @ Resorts Info Thread

This is a great time to remind everyone that this thread is to discuss the smoking DSAs at the Disney Resorts.

It is not the place to debate the Smoking Policy at Disney, the policy is in place and it is what it is.

As a reminder this thread was started with the following caveat:

Here are the basic guidelines!

1. No fighting, name calling or debate on the merits of smoking.

2. No flaming anyone - including but not limited to smokers.

3. Any post deemed off topic or in anyway against the posting guidelines will be deleted without comment and the poster will received an infraction.

4. Any other thread started on the resort board for the "smoking" topic will either be merged into this thread or closed with a note to see this thread.

Please abide by these guidelines - and everyone can get the info they need.

If this does not work we will once again ban this topic from the resort board.

We (the Moderators) do not want to do this, BUT if this turns into a gripe fest about the policy or to a bunch of posts about - "I'll never stay at Disney again" it will be closed - and the topic banned from the resorts board.

I may consider staying at the Ft. Wild. cabins because smoking is allowed on the decks.

I'm glad you posted this because DH and I were surprised by how few DSA's there were at Ft. Wilderness. DH was wondering if motor home owners were allowed to smoke inside their own motor homes. It never occurred to us that guests would be allowed to smoke on the decks of the cabins. We've stayed in those before and thought they were really nice and well equipped. I wouldn't mind staying there again except that they're just a little too remote for a long vacation (we definitely needed a car to get around to the parks).

Sorry I thought suggesting the balconies be DSAs were on topic.

A big plus for your DH will be that you can park your car, literally, right at the deck, so no trek to the car for him either!

I wonder why it isn't stated on the map that smoking is permitted on the decks. I suppose there may be other unmarked DSA's that we'll learn about on this thread as DIS-ers report their experiences.

I haven't read this thread so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not. We were at Shades of Green in March and my dad is a smoker. We didn't think he'd be able to smoke on the balcony, but there is a paper in the rooms that states smoking on the balconies is allowed as long as the sliding door stays shut.

SOG may have some exceptions/exemptions since it is not actually run by Disney.

I was wondering about WL....DS has severe allergies that can be set off by smoke and even smoke smell in drapes, carpet, etc. I tried to request a room that had never been used as a smoking room but was told that I couldn't since all rooms will be NS when we are there. Were all former smoking rooms on the same floor or wing at WL? Maybe I can request NOT___ floor or Not___wing. Any help in theis area would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I have been concerned about how inconvenient it would be for me to have to take an elevator down to ground floor with my morning coffee or late night tea if I were in a resort such as VWL or WL and would be unable to get ground floor. Many of the Disney resorts have many floors and I have been figuring that my stays would be limited to those resorts such as SSR where it would be easier to request and be given ground floor.

I am trying to envision DSA on higher up floors and I just can't figure out what you mean.

The new smoking policy went into effect after your trip in March. It started on June 1st.

We had originally requested a smoking room at the YC so we could smoke on the balcony. (Even before the change I didn't smoke inside and didn't think I should smoke on the balcony of a non-smoking room.) When the policy changed, I changed my room request to "First Floor/Easy Access to a DSA." We'll see next week if I got my request and how things are working with a few weeks experience.

I smoke once or twice a year and usually enjoy a nice, fat cigar. My bro and I will find some nice spot outside, maybe around the lake there at the YC and haul out a bottle of scotch with our stogies. I imagine there's no problem with that on the beach there, correct?

For infrequent smokers, just a quick suggestion. I can't stand the taste of smoke in my mouth any longer than when I'm smoking. I've found that brushing with diluted Hydrogen Peroxide and Arm&Hammer Toothpaste with baking sode (not together) will pretty much eliminate the taste/smell by the next morning.

The Poly buildings all have emergency exit staircases with fairly large landings at each floor. You could call some of them outdoor patio areas - they're that large. The DSAs are on those landings/decks.

BUT, it's only a few of the buildings. Most of the DSAs are on the ground level.

Just as an interesting side note
-- I recently recieved a DVC confirmation of a reservation for November '07.

At the bottom, it states that "all rooms are non-smoking".
I would have thought the verbage would include 'balconies/patios'...or at least to include 'appurtenance(s)'.

No reference whatsoever of any fees/fines appeared on the confirmation.

Just as an interesting side note The email reservation confirmation I recieved 6/20/07 (not DVC) had no mention about smoking at all...I was looking for something as someone had posted that a notice would be included on all reservations.. guess it will just take time!

There was no mention of the smoking policy during check-in, and the map we were provided didn't have the locations marked on it (but I had printed out one to take with me! ). Very few of the DSAs that I saw at the YC/BC are covered. The DSA closest to our room was by the tennis court and the quiet pool area. We never saw anyone else there, but I know others used it because the butt can got quite full before it was emptied.

I have a lake view reserved at YC. Did you see how the DSAs were around the lake side?

second, I know the maps on this site are kinda blurry, but all ears net has maps (with the DSAs) that are much easier to read. (I hope that is allowed to mention that).
tigger, thank you for your thanks! most of us smokers are very considerate. if I see someone smoking in the park, just walking down the pathway. I say something, or(and I can't beleive this) putting their cig. butt out on the ground when their is an ashtray right there... oooh .. they are only ruining it for the rest of us smokers.
as far as a DSA being by the pool bar, well, that only makes sense. smoking and drinking tend to go together. and afterall, except for the values, there are inside bars without smoking (I take that back, POP has an inside bar,too)
I cracked up at the poster talking about taking an elevator down to the DSA in her bunny slippers. as many smokers do so just before bed, or first thing in the AM (or, in hubby's case, during the night) I think we might end up with some pajama parties!!!

You can mention that.. but are you aware that you can zoom in on the maps provided on this site as much as you like?

I have to agree with Canadian Guy. The maps heere are REALLY clear and easy to read. The maps there, well... I'm not sure how 'clear' a resort map that 2" x 2.5" (one of the All Stars) is clearer than the maps on the DIS; I had to double the size of the Port Orleans map before the DSAs were clear; and the Pop map doesn't seem to be updated
