Two resorts to ask about:

AKL - is this correct - out front by buses and also behind the pool slide? Any chairs in the pool slide area? Staying in August for first time, so wanted to make sure!

Also...
WL- where to smoke? And any section good to request a room in to allow for easy access to a smoking section? Staying at WL in early December. Want to be able to sneak out late at night and have a smoke. Is it too dark and deserted down by the pool/beach DSA?

I have a courtyard view booked. Should I try for requesting off the lobby? Or south side but closer to the lobby? Or south side down by the pool bar area? Is there an elevator in the building at that far end for an easy in and out?

Most of our stays are ground floor at values and is so easy to open your door and short walk to a DSA, so not sure what I'll do at WL or AKL, so that's why all the questions! thanks!

The DSA by the beach is sorta dark, and of course late at night it can be deserted. But we use it frequently and haven't had a problem. It's the only choice as far as finding one near a room. Just ask for a room near Bay Lake if you have Woods or Courtyard View. For Standard View, you'll have to walk no matter where you are. The one by the bus stop is your only other choice, and I don't think it'll matter which Standard room you have, really.

Hey Stitch34,

We stayed at the WL and AKL in December last year.

We found the best DSA at WL at night was the one just behind the shop (Mercantile?). It has 4 x bench seats and overlooks the covered walkway between the WL and the Villas.
Plenty of like minded folk to chat to if you desire and all under cover so no problems in the rain. We also got a coffee from the Roaring Forks to take with us too. Met lots of interesting people from all over the States.

AKL has the DSL at the front of the building by the bus stop but the best one is by the pool bar. There are again some bench seats and individual chairs and also some umberellas to sit under if needed. The guys at the pool bar are pretty relaxed too and if there's nobody around to offend then they let you sit at the bar on the high stools.

Our best friends both smoke. Him chain - Her not so much.
We did the world with them last year during food and Wine. No problems at all. We just would figure out where the nearest smoking section was and after dinner head there first. So they could smoke. I know at night he would wander off and smoke, most of the time my DH would go with him. If we where at the pool.
Over all I wasn't bothered in any of the smoking areas.

Just was glad to be hanging out with our buddies.

According to the map I have seen, the DSA's at GF seem to be few and far between. We are staying in the Sugar Loaf building in December. Can anyone tell me your experience with convenience of DSA's there or from my building, where the closest one I should head for? We've never stayed there before. Thanks!

Nobody else has reported these so just wanted to add them to the list...

There is a DSA to the left of the main entrance as your facing it. In the morning this is in shade.

There is a DSA to the right of the Tempo Fountain as your facing the building. This is in the shade in the evenings.

There is a DSA on the observation deck at the Top of The World Lounge. It is to the far right as your facing the MK. it is in the sun in the early evening but as the sun sets over MK ( great view ) it is then in shade. Having a bar beside it is also very handy

There is also a DSA in the area between the Contemporary and BLT, not sure if this is a new one or an old one for the Contemporary.

Smoking at the AKL is great, you can smoke in the Pool area over by the pool bar. It is easily accessible, they have tables and chairs so you can relax and enjoy your cigarette.

If you go out the back lobby entrance of SL, take a right and walk past the marina shack there ia a smoking area near the water. There also is a smoking area to the right of the entrance to the main building. Just go out the lobby entrance of SL and turn right, a short walk to that smoking area. I also think there was one past the entrance to Big Pine Keys BLDG.

We stayed at the GF in October 2007 and 2008 and I posted photos of the DSA's there on this thread after each trip. I don't have time to look for them now but they're buried somewhere on this thread.

There was one DSA outside the entrance to SL on the marina side. There was a large, covered DSA outside the entrance to the main building outside of the Grand Floridian Cafe. They would be the closest ones to your building.

WDW has been moving or eliminating the DSA's, however, so I don't guarantee that those DSA's are still there. You might want to check with the concierge at SL to confirm the location of the DSA's before you go. I did with the concierge at the Poly last spring. I had to lean on them for an answer and they finally admitted the DSA we planned to use had been eliminated (even though it is still shown on the map).

You're right, they still haven't changed the maps, but the DSA's have been changed. The one outside of the Arcade is gone. The CM who e-mailed me said there are NO DSA's under cover, which may mean that the DSA's on the 2nd floor of the Aotearoa and Fiji may be gone (I do not know this, but they were under cover when I was last at the Poly). If no one else posts a response, and there is a specific DSA you plan to use, you might want to contact the Poly directly and ask about it. Good luck!
