Okay, you may remember the discussion: little one needs to do a report on a composer...she chose Clara Schumann. She looked like this:
images-2.jpg

My inspiration pattern was this:
3727.jpg

And the finished product is this:
P2110155.jpg

skirt, top, and "undersleeves"
P2110162.jpg

complete with a bustle on the back:
P2110159.jpg

It looks really big for her, but she will be wearing TWO full-length pettis underneath to give it the fullness it needs.

I had to decide if I wanted to spend $30.00 on fabric or $9.99 on twin size sheets at WalMart. I chose $9.99. Yes, this is made out of sheets. Also, the front of the blouse is velcro all the way down and the buttons are hot glued on. I really didn't want to make 14 buttonholes.

PoohnpigletCA hasn't seen it yet. I can't wait to have pictures of her dd in it!

For now, thank God, it's done!:woohoo:
Oh my goodness, this looks WONDERFUL!!! I don't blame you for not wanting to make 14 buttonholes...I can not even make ONE!! LOL. :confused3

You did a fabulous job!! I'm glad to see that you figured out the bustle. I hope that that is something that I never have to do.

I was hoping someone could help me find someone to make my DD a Minnie Mouse pettiskirt and t-shirt. I'm invisioning her in a red pettiskirt with white polka dots and a white tee with a Minnie head applique with a red bow w/ white polka dots and her name in red. Can anyone help me?? Thank you, Thank you , Thank you!!

Incredible! You did an amazing job.

Attempting button-holes can be DANGEROUS to ones health and well-being!!! I have created my very first THREE-PIECE (yes, that is 3) outfit. I was so proud of myself. It is a Vanetine's Day outfit for my sweet daughter. It consists of pants, peasant shirt and solid jumper top. All created from the absolutely wonderful patterns of CarlaC. (Thanks Carla)!!!

Anyway....getting to the dangerous part. Everything was stitched, sewn and looking good with the exception of the dreaded BUTTON-HOLES!!! That is the ONLY part I have left! Now I am not completely crazy so I knew to practice on some scrap fabric. After reading my machine's manual and thinking I knew what I was doing, I attempted to make a button-hole. Initially it seemed to be working but then of course everything stopped and got stuck. It was at this point everything went WRONG!!! Oh my goodness, I TOUCHED the needle and BURNED the heck out of my fingertip!!! Yes BURNED it.....BAD!!! Is it just me or my machine or has this happened to anyone else? I had NOOO idea the tip of the needle got so flipping HOT!!!!!

Now my finger still hurts and I have yet to learn how to make a stinkin' hole for a button. That is ALL I have to do before I complete my daughter's Valentine's Day outfit. Her school party is Thursday so I have one day left!!!! Wish me luck....or maybe I should just resort to velcro tape!!??? Perhaps use a knife and just make my own hole for those darn buttons??? Who knows....LOL

Ouch... who knew sewing could be so dangerous. I've sewn through my finger before but never burned myself!

In case no one here can help, I think I've seen what you are describing on ETSY. Good luck!

Thanks for all the prayers. Right now, it's a little calm. We are due for more weather in a little while. They are just releasing kids from school! They popped up so sudden!:scared1: They were about 20 min west from me, and they always travel northeast!

So we still aren''t out of it just yet! So it looks like a long night! NO SLEEP FOR ME!!!!!!!!!
I hope you are all safe!!!!

Finally finished my easter pics...... it has been raining here for days!!!

That is great! The cat looks like he is very into the game! So does Georgia!
Stop bragging! No...I can't complain we have had three wonderful days of 70 degree weather here...yes...that is after we had snow last week....gotta love NC! The only state you have to run your heat and AC in the same day!:rotfl:
I thought I had quoted your vday outfit but I guess i didn't! It is adorable! Great twirl power!
Oh and I hear you on the bragging thing! yesterday was stunning but I wish it could stay!

Oooo! Good Luck! What fun that would be :)

Ok, I really need to not surf the net... I have been looking at purse patterns online and I came across this tote.......
th_castlekeeper400.gif

I think I love it :lovestruc
This is the description...
Roomy and totally cute tote bag pattern with 4 outside wall pockets and 2 roofed tower side pockets. This tote bag is big enough for a binder or some books, water bottle, umbrella, etc. or as a "royal" diaper bag. Finished size is 13" x 14".

I may have to buy the pattern, but after a buying patterns from YCMT I thought I had sworn off paper patterns ;)
that is cute!

OH MY! I didn't think it would get hot like that either! Kind of makes me want to touch mine after a lot of sewing.:confused3

Has anyone seen the new baby doll top/dress on YCMT? I have been thinking of trying something like that well at least the neckline for awhile. I was going to play with Carla's peasant top pattern and add a piece to it. I am tempted to get this one but I am not sure.....

I have never burned my finger. OUCH..HOpe your finger feel better.I have had it gotten stuck in the middle of doing a buttonhole. I found a solution that has work really well for me and I haven't had that problem again... I cut a piece of Sulky Sticky and put in over the area where I want the buttonhole, and I sew over it...and it has always gone smoothly! When I am done, I just tear it off and you can't tell that there is a layer of Sulky under it.

FairyGodMother- That is one awesome costume!!! Hurry up and mail it so we can see pics of her in it!!! ;)

Years ago I bought a crinolin on ebay that had wire hoops that you could adjust. I sent it to the church tag sale a couple years ago- always wish Id kept it! I bet they have them for kids if she wanted.
That would make a fabulous Halloween costume for next year too! I hope her report is great- she is going to steal the show!!

PHOTOS PLEASE!!!
PoohnPiglet- you got that? WE WANT LOTS OF PHOTOS!

Keep the magic alive!

MouseTripper- I have never burned my fingers - that seems odd.
You also may wish to add a bit of stabilizer under the spot you plan to place the button hole.
I suggest taking a strip of fabric, marking your button holes and practice doing 3 in a row, on the lines you drew (I use a white chalk like marking pencil) for button holes.
Is your machine an auto-button holer, or do you have to adjust zigzag width and then stop and bartack and then do another zig zag and finish with a bartack?
I practiced a LOT before I felt confident, and the only trouble I have run into is thicker fabrics- like the wool coat I did and an outfit in denim.
I have done velcro squares (instead of a whole strip) to get the same movement a button would, and then glued buttons on the front. I have found the sew on velcro stays "stickier" than the kind that has a glue on back.

Whatever you do, it will be great!

At first she asked if her dress would look as pretty as that one. Then she looked at it again and said "Oh that is my dress."

Now we just have to finish the report, and poster.:upsidedow

OMG!! That costume is fantastic!

I bought 2 more bundles yesterday of CarlaC's patterns. LOVE THEM!! I have no idea how I ever sewed without them. I LOVE YOU CARLA!!! LOL!

Now my collection includes: bowling shirt, raglan, preppy skirts, patchwork twirl, simply sweet, A-line, scalopini twirl, perfect fit pants, stripwork jumper and peasant top.

Whooo Hooo!!! I doubt I will be buying any more patterns for a good long while!

Coming out of partial lurkdome. . . .

So some of you may remember I said a few months ago that DH and I were starting to try for our first baby. . . well my period should have started days ago and I took a pregnancy test this morning (5:30am!!) and then another to be sure it was right, and they both showed up with two pink lines. We are waiting to tell the people we know until it is confirmed at the doctors, and some possibly until after the 12 week mark, but I HAVE to tell someone. SO I thought this group, with all of its love, support and prayers for one another, would be the place to come to. I am excited and so nervous at the same time. Your thoughts, prayers or good vibes :goodvibes would be very much appreciated. Six years ago next month I was diagnosed with cancer and being alive, let alone being able to conceive, is truly a miracle.

I am just praying for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Thanks for letting me share

I know- I like to collect them too!
I have....
easy fit pants, (love this, made a lot of shorts and pants)
portrait peasant top/dress, (love this too!)
simply sweet, (havent tried it yet)
A line, (LOVE this too! So easy and cute!)
I think I have the flouncy skirt,
bowling shirt
then for "others" I have the
She Loves Me Knot bag, (this was fun, not hard, but time intensive)
Nanoo Design Annette reversible sundress- I think that came in a bundle I bought
Tana Tutu dress (I know I bought the stuff to do the "tutu" part and never did it
Karen capri pants and halter top
dainty designs peasant dress (I bought this by accident, it was my first purchase and I thought it was Carla's)

What's embarassing is that I have only done probably half of those patterns!
I have told myself I am not allowed to buy anything else until I have completed at least 2 more of the patterns I have purchased!
I would really like the wrap dress pattern.....but really- I need to try simply sweet next- perhaps a combo of that with easy fit pants....Hmmmm...

Hope your finger feels better.
