Good morning. Since I live in a fairly isolated city in Northern Ontario we only have one fabric store locally and it does not carry any liscensed stuff. Anyway. I will be in Florida for a bit in March, more specifically, 6 nights in St. Pete's and then 4 at Universal. I plan on budgetting a bit of cash for material while I am down there. Anyone know of any great fabric places in the area? Mom and I would appreciate it very much.

are you looking for a specific disney fabric... some of us may be able to help you out. message me if you like.

Here is my take on a Hannah Montana shirt. Originally I planned to have the writing (which I got from a HM calender of Nikki's)actually embroidered on the shirt but I was in the restroom and my machine thread broke:scared1: and I couldn't figure out how to go back and start it where it left off because the machine kept sewing and didn't stop where it broke. So I tried to gently use my old friend the seam ripper and it wasn't being very nice! So I decided to just embroider the lettering on a fabric and applique it on. Once I embroider the fabric I realized the material was WAY too thin. UGH! I had already spent all day Friday trying to make it just right but it gave me nothing but issues so I decided to just use it as is.:confused3

ignore the white stripe in between the guitars I also originally was going to have the Rock and Roll part of the lettering in between them so that was my soap marking and it will wash out.

That is very cute. I love the guitars. The writing looks good despite all the problems.

I hope this is ok to post.

I searched on yahoo and found her directions for sizing up and down here.

http://disboutique.blogspot.com/

I saved it - I hope she doesn't mind me posting again.

I was looking at the size charts in my patternmaking textbook, and it seems like the larger "tween" sizes increase pretty proportionally. I did the math to get the differences in the sizes so that the pattern pieces could be scaled up on a copy machine.

to go from an 8 to a 10, scale up 103%
to go from an 8 to a 12, scale up 106%
to go from an 8 to a 14, scale up 110%

to go from a 10 to a 12, scale up 103%
to go from a 10 to a 14, scale up 106%
to go from a 10 to a 16, scale up 110%

You'll want to go to a place like Kinko's that has nice machines so you can adjust the scale to whatever you want, and also so you can select a larger paper size (I think you can go up to 11X17 in most machines).

I haven't tried this personally (I just do the scaling in my drawing program), but these are the percentages I would use. This should work for most patterns (not just mine) that are free-fitting like the peasant top/dress. With more fitted styles, keep in mind that as girls develop, the hip/waist ratio changes, and also the bustline changes. So for something like the a-line, scaling up might not work. Boys are easy - they stay pretty much the same until they either get big muscles or a beer belly !

Thanks guys! So, I take the pattern on my flash drive to Kinkos? Does it cost to use their computers to print it off? Or...do I print what I have here, put in their copier and upscale it there?

Hey, you yahooed me! ;) I have a link to it in the bookmarks too.

LOL! You're famous!! I knew it was here somewhere, but I always have trouble with the search feature on the disboards. I guess I should have thought to click your link first. I always find everything else I need there :)

Hello.... Got a question, when you put the elastic thread on the bobbin do you use tension? I am gonna attempt shirring wish me luck.

Last year when we were in Florida I went to a Joann's, and it was absolute heaven compared to Fabricland or anything we have here. There was SO much selection, and variety. And it seems like anything the girls on here buy is nicer than what we can get in Canada, so I would say any of the bigger fabric stores would be a good stop (Joann's, Hobby LObby and Hancoks, is that right?)

I would print it off and then go there to resize it. I believe they charge for any files that you open on their computers.

Someone posted a link to this shop the other day and I noticed that they carry the "Very Hungry Caterpillar" fabric that that adorable dress was made of. Looks like it's still available.

Also, to the poster, Tricia, looking to go fabric shopping in the states, what I do is this. I go to the JoAnn's website and type in the postal code for my hotel and see how close the nearest JoAnn's is -preferably a "superstore" and use mapquest to get my directions from the hotel to the shop and back.
Also, don't negate Ontario entirely! I'm visiting friends in the Kitchener/Waterloo area next week and I'm looking forward to hitting Lens Mills while I'm there. So, if you get down south at all that far, check it out.

Hi -

I am going to Niagara Falls at the end of the month - where can I shop for fabric around there?

Sounds like all the Disers are having a GREAT time!!!! Hope you all got great pictures for us to see!!!:thumbsup2

Oh my goodness that is so CUTE!!!! My 5 year old just told me "I need that!"

That whole outfit is absolutly adorable!

Great Job!!!!! That little girl is going to LOVE it!

Just wanted to share my Big Give shirt...I was so nervous with this...this is the first clothing I have made for anyone outside my family. I really stressed over it...but it's done! i am happy with the results.

Thanks for looking!:goodvibes

That came out great! I love the fabric - I don't think I've seen that one yet. I still need to try a camp shirt.

Well, I just finished packing (still have that hoodie to put finish) and we are leaving from the soccer fields tomorrow straight for Disney! I think my husband is a little sad because he can't come with us. But he got to take Megan to the Father/Daughter dance tonight, so it's ok!

Thanks to everyone who commented when I first posted the dress. I cut three inches off the black fake-leather and I think it turned out cute. I used Carla's potrait peasant for the bodice and the costume pattern for the skirt. Megan did not like the hat and probably took it off at the first opportunity. I can't wait until they get home so I can hear all about it.

Have a great weekend everyone!

She looks so cute in her western wear. I missed the 'before' version of the dress (plus 100s of other photos and pages of posts LOL) but I think the overskirt length looks perfect.

That is darling. I really like the matching purse. I may need to look for that pattern to make one for my DD. Can you tell me which pattern it is and if it's from a specific issue?

Thanks. I checked for the 3 Daniela mentionned, and I think there is a Hancocks and a Jo-Anns close enough, but just checking if there are any more anyone was aware of.

Also, I wouldn't negate Ontario completely, but the city that I live in is 500 miles north of Toronto. We do have a Fabricland and are a population of about 50,000, but we are rather isolated from other big centers that have fabric stores. Next closest city of over 50,000 is a 3 1/2 hour drive.
